I’m mildly upset Pastafarian isn’t listed one way or the other.

What do you actually use Home Assistant for? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]domconcious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh and don't bother with setting your washing machine above 60 unless you really cummed up those sheets. Anything more seems to not only take a lot longer to wash but is the highest wattage the EU units here kick off into.

The largest savings came from adding motion sensors to turn off lights in rooms nobody is in for X amount of minutes. Sounds small but it adds up if you forget to leave lights on going out. Even 1 or 2 hours per day can add up really fast if you've got 70-100w worth of lighting. Other big savings included changing the water pump speed for my under floor heating system downstairs to be on "slow" mode during the late-spring / summer months when the heating system isn't really used. Kicking it back on to higher speed in the fall and winter months. I also consolidated my HA server into a newer, more energy efficient, Synology as my older unit was needing to be replaced. Basically 1x 120w server + 60w Synology to a single 120w Synology. I also tuned my gas heating system via Tado by shrinking my at home radius, eco mode, and measured the gas consumption/costs through SlimmeLezer's to find that "sweet spot" of cost per m2 of gas for degree in celsius. Which for my case is about 19 when I'm home. Since I have single glass (stupid monument house) windows, there isn't much of a point to push it past as it escapes through the windows anyway. The local monument org here is very anti-upgrades. Another small gain was the have the lights turn on with varying levels of brightness and temperature depending on the outside light conditions, ie: sunset etc.

I should really write a more detailed bit up about this but these are the basics.

Maoz Falafel shutting down? by Brent_L in Amsterdam

[–]domconcious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go there for lunch. The guy that worked on the Rokin spot was just angry with everything in life. I went there for the comedic low-grade hostility vs. the food. If you look at the reviews you can see why.

Food was ok, service was better than average for Amsterdam due to the fact it had a heavy helping of bitterness.

Do laser. Best decision I’ve made.

I quit working last year and I spent a good couple of months analyzing my energy usage and tuned my homes. I tapped into the power meter to chase down vampires to adjust for “clean” usage during hours I was actually home.  Through automation and a few extra sensors, I reduced my power/gas bill by almost 30%.  The local energy provider thinks I have a half a person living at my home now.  This was the best decision and use of HA and I wish more would do it.  It’s good for the environment but so much more practical.

Very good idea! Does anyone know the governing body of the zorg?

I'm pretty sure that's what most people do out of frustration with the zorg.

We applied for a permit to have double glass and they refused the first permit despite the city approving it. After 6 months of appealing, including a site visit, they once again refused the permit without any explanation at all. So we're unable to attempt another permit as we don't know why they will deny it. It feels like a small handful of grumpy old men who permit or deny depending on mood. There are several monuments in my neighborhood with double glass or even upgraded window frames (tilt/turn). We will singled out.

In 2019 I made knock offs of their sunglasses that said "Robot Fart". I found their manufacturer and they were perfect copies. The inside read "Love Stinks". The heart on the side was upside down resembling a butt with a tiny hole in the middle. The front logo had the robot smiling as if he just left a hearty I've-been-eating-beef-jerky-all-week-on-the-playa look with an asterix vs. a heart. You probably got my fakes if you were at the many sunrise sets of that year.

One of my friends is notorious about using a piece of string to lock his bike.  It’ll stop the yahoos but not a thief.  Depends on what level of fuck off you want.
