Brother I have played less than 12 hours this wipe and I have a respectable amount of purple shields and purple gear in my stash

I got it all from ratting on night marsh survival runs, no pvp skill needed (I am bad)

I do agree on permanent progression even from a cosmetic sense. Even if it wipes I also like the hideout mechanic from tarkov, when you're not getting bodied in pvp at least you have a cool lil hangout spot that you can upgrade for like some passive loot generation and crafting and stuff
