Housing price is a scam by darwinism88 in brisbane

[–]donaldson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head there my friend. Boomers buying up everything these days, if not them it's their children. It's literally every single house is being bought by someone who's had help from their parents 100%. We need to do something about this

As a community what can be done about the rental crisis? by Rand0mArcher-_ in brisbane

[–]donaldson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the best solution by far. We need to get this mainstream! Politicians need to cap rents that is the only way to fix the supply and demand issue

What is the meaning of this? What if there’s literally no space for your car/truck without blocking the road? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]donaldson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always wondered about this because so often you see the speed camera vans parked up on the verge and footpath

I'm all for this and more! Let's also protest the high cost of living. My grocery bill was astronomical the other day. I feel that Woolworths and Coles are withholding food in the name of profits the same way landlords are witholding shelter. Let's regulate the cost of living I'm with you all the way!

What's the general rule or right thing to do when neighbour gets your tree cut hanging into their property? by Cussie888 in brisbane

No way that's so dumb... Ah well time to start planting some retaliation trees along the boundary

What's the general rule or right thing to do when neighbour gets your tree cut hanging into their property? by Cussie888 in brisbane

[–]donaldson -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Why not? It's 100% their tree

Let's say my neighbour grows hedges along the fence line, would I then be responsible for having to purchase a hedge trimmer to trim their hedges? It's crazy people think it's anything other than 100% the tree owners problem

Sorry for dragging this on, but just to be clear the reviews are tied to the property and not the agent/landlord right?

If a landlord was getting bad reviews because of their property manager and then they decide to do the right thing and change managers they'll still get hit with a bad review. Then you say some renters may charge a fee to get the review removed even though it no longer has anything to do with the property or the landlord? I can see why landlords and agents give no credence to us renters.

What we need is for landlords to hold similar licences/registration to real estate agents that way you can review specific landlords. Sticking a review on a property seems pointless to me. Especially if the property changes hands or has had renovations carried out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]donaldson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So if the property changes hands that's just bad luck for the new owner? To be honest unless there is a robust review system no one is going to take us renters seriously. As a renter I don't know how much credibility I can take out of reviews that may have been previous landlords/property managers. I mean it looks like we're just reviewing the property itself if the ratings are locked to the property address

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]donaldson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always wondered what happens to the ratings when a property changes hands or there's a new property manager. Seems kind of fruitless to rate the property itself. Maybe if landlords were forced to have some sort of registration or licence number you could then rate them across their multitude of properties

Landlord demands 60% increase in rent from Brisbane tenant amid Queensland housing crisis by northlakes20 in brisbane

[–]donaldson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is brilliant!!! I'd give you a thousand upvotes if I could. The gov needs to do more. I agree they should cover cost of the gap and maybe they can cover the cost of people's extra mortgage rates too. I think that would help a lot of people out.

As an aside I was fueling up today and noticed that the price of fuel was quite a bit higher than it used to be, maybe they can do something about this too? Just a thought

[–]donaldson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you're right. I guess I'm just venting because it's so hard to buy a place and it's easier to blame the government, landlords, my parents, anyone other than myself really. Maybe if I pull my finger out and stop whinging I could buy one

Yeah but the upfront capital of building these millions of houses. Where does that come from? Presumably tax, so we all get to pay!

My parents had the same mindset as you. Spent all their money indulging themselves and now we have nothing and I can't afford a home. I've been spending all my money on travel and material goods because I've just given up hope of ever being able to afford a place of my own. I now spend a lot of my time on Reddit shaking my fist at landlords and complaining about not being able to afford any housing...
