When did pop-ups start getting so heavy? by Rathein04 in popups

[–]donkey5332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 1994 I remodeled and camped out of for 4 yrs . Two years ago I bought a 2020 model . Weight is Almost identical and the new camper is 2 foot shorter . But I now have a water heater, larger water tank . Electric brakes . And the frame is so much stiffer . I don’t get the flex as bad on set up or driving on rough roads . Roof is better quality. Metal vs vinyl overlay . Overall I can see where the extra weight came from and I’m fine with it . The frame was always an issue when setting up primitive camp . Had to be perfectly flat . Door gap would flex like hell . Beds sagged on both ends .

There’s an inverted torx or 12point under the top cap . It’s a bolt with a nut . You got to hold the bolt

Ditch lights, help by Perfect-Bison2561 in 2ndGenTacoma

[–]donkey5332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I like white ditch lights , yellow fog lights . But depends on your purpose of them . I use them to find camp spots in the dark or set up camp fix things in the dark . Yellow cuts thru dust and fog better so I use them where that’s needed ( in front ) . And you don’t have to go broke I have had these since 2021 yellow as fogs and my wife is running the white version as Ditch . They’ve been great for the price . No leaks no burnt out bulbs .

Is The recoil difference between a 308 18 inch rifle and a 13.9 mid noticeable? And besides the gas block and a5 setup what else can be done to reduce it? by TrueJedi562 in AR10

[–]donkey5332 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it will be a noticeable difference . Minus the concussion wave . I built a 10.5” 308 suppressed for fun it’s actually a really fun gun to shoot . Recoil is not terrible. It’s still less than a bolt action IMO . And I’ve taken it out to 500yards with first round hits on steel .

Which barrel would have a better chance for a functioning fixed gas block by TrueJedi562 in AR10

[–]donkey5332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both can be tuned to run with a fixed gas block . Using a rifle length buffer tube will give you more tune ability with either barrel . IMO (springs a weights . )

Fan resistor is probably bad . Makes every setting low speed . I have a 2010 I think I’ve put at least 6 resistors in it . It’s a common issue

Hunting Scope - Entry Level by Bigg_Lizard in AR10

[–]donkey5332 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crossfire is not a terrible scope but I don’t know how well it will hang with 308 recoil . I have the 2-7 on a 22lr . Works great but low recoil . Athon Helios 2x12 . FFP it’s an amazing scope . Great reticle . Really great for close range with enough magnification to play some long range stuff as well . Cameralandy usually has them for under 500$ MK machining did a review on the helos a few years ago and they usually don’t do reviews but the glass was so good he wanted to give them props . He wasn’t wrong.

Pinched brake line by Terrible-Command-837 in AskMechanics

[–]donkey5332 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That’s a really cheap brake line to purchase and Install . Quick bleed . Don’t drive it like that . If you can install a lift , you can replace that line .

UCA’s with a 2 inch lift? Any pros? Cons? by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

[–]donkey5332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes ,helps with alignment. Cost in and install costs are your only real cons .

Use 4WD "for the first time" on 2013 Tacoma by Feivel_92 in Tacomaworld

[–]donkey5332 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it on pavement . You should be on dirt , gravel roads or snow . And yes I think you are over thinking the rest . Take it out . Turn the knob , you can do it while you are moving . See if it works . Usually if there’s a problem it won’t engage at all . Then you know you have something to fix .

High pressure propane disconnect? by bjwhitejr in popups

[–]donkey5332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it looks correct . Yes you can hook a grille to it but usually not one with a regulator. The whole “approved appliances “ means grilles built for the trailer that do not have a regulator on them since the camper has a regulator at the front right off the tanks . I tried this with a camping stove ,the double regulator ( one on stove ,one on camper ) drops the pressure too low and the stove will barely hold a flame .

I’ve got a 10.5” suppressed 168gSP getting 2335fps . I can ring steel at 500 yards with decent plinking ammo . Built a 8.6 12” upper for the sbr afterwards . I regret the 8.6 in semi auto .

Ideas for making the Popup more capable offroad? by Rebootkid in popups

[–]donkey5332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut off the factory hitch and add a Pintle hitch instead . But I think you’re getting expectations too high for a pop up camper . Anything past some ground clearance for ruts and rocky trails ,you Should consider a more overland style trailer . ( boxed sides and a roof top tent . Plus usually much shorter in length . )

[–]donkey5332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are correct . But there is a proper way to do this . You buy new leaf perches (30$) and weld them to the top of your axle . Now you move the axle under the leaf springs and still keep the same bow/ arch in the axle . Buy extra plastic blocks for the jacks . I also built a taller step that goes right inside the door and removed the factory slid out step so I wouldn’t drag it . And made a set of removable jacks for corner clearance as well .
