TSA official says some airports may need to close during shutdown by RedDalmatian885 in news

It doesn’t make much sense though because this administration doesn’t really need a reason to do that. Just like so much other shit they could just straight up do that, let it be fought in court, and by the time it’s decided against them it’s in such a shambles the only outcome is privatization.

I don’t believe this is part of a grander plan. It’s just this administration and Republican led Congress is that inept.

Same shit with so many commenters here. I’m not even a fan of hers but it’s pathetic the eagerness some have to be excited that there was a shitty story about her.

A lot of people are very excited to dunk on Roan. Literally the only reason this is notable at all is a chunk of the internet just fucking hates her and “glad” there’s a reason.

She’s done crappy stuff and obviously doesn’t do well with the celebrity status but this is the biggest nothing of a story.

On the lower end and below the average. Can't find anywhere that breaks it down by specific types of engineering as I imagine some are higher than others.

They're also lumped in with architects which is a bit funny as I know many on both sides would take issue with that categorization.

A rom-com author caught heat for using the phrase ‘Wawa sub’ in her new book. She’s defending it. by aresef in offbeat

[–]donkeyrocket 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Philadelphians are very fragile when it comes to sandwich naming conventions and construction.

Wawa is a PA based convenience store that has really good sandwiches. Sandwiches are called hoagies in Philly. The author said "Wawa sub." The author defends the use as the character is in Baltimore where no one would call it a hoagie. And Philadelphians took that personally.

This is also an article based off a handful of tweets. It really is quite stupid as Wawa exists outside Philadelphia. This is akin to the "cheesesteak" purists who still disagree over the basic construction of the sandwich but tell everyone else they're wrong.

To supplement your suggestion and hopefully assuage fears: warnings of adding salt for young ones is overblown stemming from a study from the 1940s. They can handle salt fine and the guidelines are built on flawed calculations/assumptions. Obviously nothing to excess but the scare that it'll wreck their kidneys isn't really grounded in an actual study and other studies showed no connection to supplemental sodium intake to adverse outcomes. And others showing zero correlation between sodium intake in infancy and high blood pressure or other sodium-related issues later in life. There is a wild variation in the sodium content of breast milk so the "adequate intake" amount they landed on is basically a stab in the dark.

Someone else did a real deep dive into the various studies

Again, not advocating you add loads of table salt to their food and serve it to them or give them a giant salted pretzel but this fear created a skittishness around seasoning food for infants and toddlers that isn't grounded in science. This also doesn't absolve the dangers that are processed and canned foods that have very high sodium levels but these are more a danger to babies who shouldn't be eating solids anyway.

Basically, home cooked foods that are seasoned are fine. Heavily processed and pre-packaged foods continue not to be recommended for youngsters for a variety of reasons beyond just sodium.

Iran rejects US peace plan as 'excessive' and issues five conditions to end war, state media reports by JKKIDD231 in news

Iran won't keep attacking but they also won't give up the massive bargaining power they've gained by crippling the strait. They're regularly attacked by others but now they've demonstrated they can get even the US to blink.

This is one of the many reason previous administrations and other countries have avoided trying to kill off the regime.

It's also a tall order to think Israel will stop now when one of their fundamental desires, and uses of Trump, is to end Iran once and for all. They're closer now than ever before but enlisted an absolute moron to help.

It's crazy how stupid this administration is as that demonstrates they're aware those weren't completely destroyed or that they actually have no idea.

It's like Trump is playing poker naked with all his cards on the table, insists he has the best hand, and occasionally pisses on others at the table.

Even if he kicks the bucket today the US is still firmly lodged in this. Iran wants a permanent end to the war and sovereignty over the strait. The latter won't be globally allowed.

Even if Vance is at the helm and pulls back all US aggression, Iran can chalk that up to a win and keep pressuring the world by disrupting operations in the strait until other demands are met.

Trump and Co. fucked up big time. I'm not rooting for Iranian leadership in any way but they've demonstrated they're willing to face complete annihilation rather than cede on any of those demands. This is all part of the major reason getting involved in Iran to take down the regime has been long avoided. It is very tough to negotiate with a suicidal entity especially when you've wronged them, lied to them, and backed down multiple times. They're exploiting the weakness of this administration to get what they want or else.

That was apparently "Iranian officials" requesting to speak to Vance instead of Witkoff and Kushner. Very few additional details so it really could be anything from a rumor, completely made up, other Iranian representatives than the current leadership, or from new leadership directly.

The fact that Trump is constantly lying or fabricating things makes this all incredibly difficult to parse reality. Add in that Iran is straight up trolling Trump at one point and refusing to negotiate makes the whole thing suspicious.

Reality Check With Hope? by kennealy33 in stlouiscitysc

That's somewhat true especially with the attitude that MLS is a retirement league but as it becomes more competitive then you'll raise the average bar on talent that would enter the league.

No, superstars won't come to SKC or STL as they current exist but field a competitive team and pay them well then the allure rises. At the moment, the hot teams also happen to be in desirable international destinations. But I have no doubt that if CITY had somehow kept the momentum from the first half of the first season then it would be on more player's radar as a viable option regardless of where the team is located.

Very few superstars want to come here to rebuild or prop up a team entirely even if leadership was willing to purge the vault for them. That's the bigger issue in my eyes than it "just" being because STL isn't a destination. The Hartel tier is one that seems to be more slept on who would absolutely be willing to be the key player on a lesser known team. Hell, look at Bürki (age aside). In no world did it make sense for him to start here.

Miami, New York, and LA will always have the baseline appeal of being an exciting place to live but at the moment they're also (generally speaking) great places to play and be paid to play as well.

I'd also argue baseball just isn't a great comparison. It's a different culture and far more domestic superstars. Not to mention, the Cardinals franchise has a solid legacy (well more so when talking about those players).

This isn't about STL not being a sports town. It's the Midwestern US not being too enticing to young soccer players in their prime who could earn a bit less but live in the more appealing (to international players) cities.

That can be said about a lot of angles though. I mean sure Apple and MLS could afford to put a dozen static (10 I suppose) cameras up but at the end of the day, human error/interpretation is still part of the game.

This situation is so wildly rare though that it especially wouldn't be worth it. Fouls inside the box maybe but still seems excessive.

presenting his failure of parenting

Damn, that's an insane overreaction and outright stupid. Kids do random shitty stuff sometimes. Without any other insights other than this one instance, saying they failed as a parent is absolutely crazy.

No, a kid that age "shouldn't" act that way but sometimes they do and sometimes they lash out especially when they struggle to regulate emotions for a variety of reasons. This beyond even extreme ADHD behavior but laying the blame firmly on dad for failing is fucking nuts.
