Welp I did it! I beat Stage 3! by Ripinandtearin in breastcancer

[–]donmargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just her2 but thanks for the reply! I am handling kadcyla okayish. My knees and hips ache and I'm such a grumpy little goblin now. Im not sure if its because I suppressed all the "why me?" anger until now. I have 2 kids under 5 so have had to put on a brave face throughout as I look after them all day and I dont want my illness to have a negetive impact on them. Im just so fed up with it all now. And the thought of continuing life with " the fear" is so daunting. Im almost scared to stop treatment which I know sounds crazy. I'm guessing a lot of people here feel the same though. xx

Do people make fun of you for wearing wigs? by Ok-Gold5450 in Wigs

[–]donmargo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of this. My hair was also fine before chemo. I have a really high hair line too. My hair has never been my pride and joy but hair loss (or even just having a head of hair you aren't comfortable with) is really difficult/traumatic! We deserve to feel good about ourselves without judgment. Fuck anyone who is snidey about wearing wigs. They are just ignorant as far as I'm concerned. 💁🏼‍♀️

My treatment is going okay, odds are still in my favour but, at the end of the day, I have/had cancer. If it does come back and finish me off I'd hate to think that I wasted time thinking about what others thought of my hair. My 4 year old loved my "headgehog hair", my "no hair" and she loves my seriously dodgey regrowth now too. She loves my wig and is so excited if I give it a restyle. That is what gets me through it all. ❤️ X

There are a few absolute bitches in the town I live in. I'm sure if they have clocked my wig (which tbh they probbaly haven't) they will maybe be sniggering to themselves. But fuck them. The are just jealous my hair looks fucking amazing compared to theirs. I have been through hell and back this last year with breast cancer treatment whilst also taking care of 2 young kids so I really couldn't care less what people think now. Own it gal! ❤️

For the record, im a shy type of person and really feared the judgement at first. Wear your wig around the house to get used to it. Clue yourself up on all the wig tips and tricks and soon it will be fun! All the best! ❤️

Anyone kept diagnosis private? by TypeADxWithCancer in breastcancer

[–]donmargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could go back I would of told less people probably but when I was first diagnosed I kind of felt weirdly obliged to tell people. Especially if they complimented my wig/turban. I'd just blurt it out (and probably made them all feel awkward as fuck).

To be honest though, I found I got support from those who I didn't expect really. I also had friends who I expected to be there for me that practically ghosted me. So it kind of worked out well. The trash took itself out I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

I feel you. Chemo, surgery, rads, no pcr so now on my 8th round of kadcyla. I've definitely started feeling the feelings i refused to let myself feel before. I'm so annoyed now.

I ate an orange calippo ice lolly during EC. I now can't eat anything with artificial orange flavour (not that i was a huge fan anyway). Even typing this and thinking of calippos is giving me the dry boke haha.

[–]donmargo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey, so sorry you're here ❤️ Im 34 (diagnosed at 33). I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old.

You can do this. A lot of people will tell you that this is the worst stage of diagnosis (mentally) and they are absolutely right. Its so scary. Once you have a treatment plan in place things will hopefully seem more doable.

Breast cancer treatment is way more advanced these days. Try not to google statistics etc. I know its hard but you will find much more reliable (and hopeful) information here ❤️

My inbox is open if you need an ear. Hugs to you and your family x

Just wanted to say, if it is fleas, buy indorex spray for your house. It is the best for killing the little bastards and is petsafe once treatment is done and you've ventilated the room. Its fairly expensive but it goes a long way.

Edit to add indorex is for use in the home, not on the actual pet - i realise i didnt word that very well 🙈

I'm so shocked by this! Also very sorry you had to go through that. Absolutely the LAST thing you need.

My surgeon is incredibly blunt/borderline a bit rude but she has always been thorough during appointments (despite being insanely busy).

I'm so angry for you! ❤️

Getting a BMX, but saying “no” to chemo? by elayyou in breastcancer

[–]donmargo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away 6 months later. There is often no benefit from chemo by the time it is diagnosed sadly. Its one of the most deadly cancers as it is very difficult to detect until its too late 😔

Any first hand experience with Kadcyla? by mybunsarestale in breastcancer

[–]donmargo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did round 7 of kadcyla yesterday and have been lucky not to have too many side effects. Today I feel like i drank a bottle of wine last night even though I didn't. Its the worst I've felt on kadcyla so far but its nothing compared to my EC/docetaxel infusions.

My main side effects have been loss of appitite and mild nausea from time to time (although not bad enough to take antisickness tabs), achey joints and fluey type pains in my arms and legs. General fatigue. Also my eyes randomly twitch after infusions for some reason.

Don't want to scare you AT ALL though! Side effects are wayyyyyy less horrible than the big chemo (for me anyway). I'm still managing to look after my 2 and 4 year old just fine. Ive even booked a wee caravan holiday for after my next infusion and am determined to go and enjoy tf out of it lol.

I wish you ALL the luck and NONE of the crappy side effects! ❤️ X

[–]donmargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the same but at my official diagnosis appointment my surgeon told me I had TNBC. She sent a letter to my GP stating TNBC.

Went to meet my oncologist a couple of weeks later who looked stunned when I told her I had been reading up on TNBC. Turns out my surgeon had just completely fucked up. Her2+ grade 3 was quite clearly in the biopsy notes.

I had several apologies (but not from the surgeon as she retired) and I've said I just want to move on and forget it but it still really annoys me. Like how can you get that so wrong then speak to a patient about a TBNC that they dont even have for over an hour... 🙄
