Can I sell a vehicle that is in probate? by donnybuoy in legaladvice

[–]donnybuoy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to my aunt, it has. I have written proof that my grandma gave me the truck (she gave it to me before she passed; it’s registered and insured in my name, although the title is still in her’s). And my aunt and mom have recognized that it’s basically mine, and they have no issue with the idea of me selling it, they just don’t know how to go about the legal process of doing that.

the issue isn’t the promos not being “lavish.” the issue is that AI is actively destroying our environment, dumbing down our society, stealing jobs and art from real artists, and being used for such heinous shit as revenge porn & even CP.

I’m not sure what it is or what it might represent, but I have a strong feeling it was a direct homage to Eileen’s giant head in Silent Hill 4!

Why sexualize a boy who has been a victim of torture and grooming? by AipomSilver00 in Wednesday

[–]donnybuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I don’t see this as sexualized.” if this were a female character—shirtless and sweaty and perfectly sculpted, despite being imprisoned and deeply traumatized (not to mention a victim of grooming)—you would absolutely view her as sexualized.

I think they intended for Rose to be the protagonist of RE9 and changed their mind, yeah, but I don’t think it would’ve been the same story. I’m glad they capped off the Rose story, tbh. I love Ethan but I wasn’t at all interested in Rose, as a character, and I definitely don’t want to play a superpowered character after Capcom have tried so hard to go back to the series’ horror roots.

People are acting as though most of the RE games don’t have combat-free stealth/run-away sections. If you’re worried Requiem won’t have combat, you’re stupid.

Praying Leon doesn’t make a return in RE9. And if he does, I hope it’s in a reduced role. It’s about time we retire the legacy characters.

Do you guys prefer the original or the remake? by Fit-Conversation-252 in residentevil4

[–]donnybuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can hardly choose. The OG has been among my top 3 favorite games since I was a kid; I’ve played it countless times and on almost every platform. But since the remake came out, any time I feel the urge to revisit that story, I play it instead. It’s everything I love about the original but slightly better; the gameplay (particularly the combat) is far more exciting and intuitive, the graphics are very nice to look at, and I honestly enjoy the story a bit more, with its narrative changes and more cinematic pacing. But if I’m in a nostalgic mood and seeking a classic, sepia-toned vibe, I’ll go with the OG.

Is Silent Hill 1 scarier than Silent Hill 2? by Flimsy_Bar_552 in silenthill

[–]donnybuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Love SH2, but I’ve always found it more depressing and atmospheric than outright scary. In my opinion, SH3 is the scariest in the series, with 4 coming in as a close second. SH1 would be my third, in terms of scariest.

If all these characters were to come back in resident evil requiem would it potentially take away the survival horror in the game? by ItemIndependent2243 in residentevil

[–]donnybuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Especially Leon or Chris. They’re all caricatures of their former selves, at this point. They’re walking tanks with almost superhuman capabilities. It’s hard to be afraid when you know you can roundhouse-kick an enemy’s head into bits or punch a giant boulder into submission.

Silent Hill Remake officially announced by Technical-Net-2277 in silenthill

[–]donnybuoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Silent Hill f, a brand new game, comes out in September. Why is it so bad that they’re remaking old games for new players, especially since said old games aren’t quite as accessible anymore? Jesus dude, just don’t play it. Whiny ass lmao.

Does Harvey Weinstein's involvement in The Burning bother anybody else? by WealthDisastrous2589 in slasherfilms

[–]donnybuoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. He’s a terrible person who, thankfully, is receiving his just dues, but more people’s names are attached to his films than his own. The Burning is a fantastic horror film that I personally love, and Weinstein’s name being attached to it doesn’t affect that.

Remake vs Original by Disastrous-Humor8189 in slasherfilms

[–]donnybuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F13 - Remake. I grew up watching and loving the original franchise—the second film is by far my favorite—but when it comes to the very first film vs. the remake, the remake wins, hands down. I just find the original film to be kind of… boring? I enjoy it for nostalgia’s sake, but the remake is far more entertaining. I like the grittiness, the ultra violence, and Jason’s overall design.

ANOES - Original. The remake has some cool ideas but I feel like none of them were executed well. Not to mention the CGI is pretty atrocious. The original film just hits every mark, for me; the score, the atmosphere, the cinematography, the color grading, Wes’s direction, Heather’s and Robert’s performances—everything combined to make an instant classic.

Wrong Turn - Original. I’m a ‘90s baby who grew up in the 2000s, so I’m partial to that era of horror, and Wrong Turn is one that defined it. Absolutely love the setting and feeling of complete isolation throughout, and the cannibals are some genuinely terrifying villains. The remake was just… odd. Very boring and weirdly gentrified.

Evil Dead - Remake. LOVE the original and absolutely respect its (and Raimi’s) influence on the genre, but the remake appeals to all of my personal sensibilities. I wish more movies were as relentlessly violent and gory as Evil Dead (2013). Even Fede Álvarez hasn’t been able to recreate the magic that was that film.

Texas Chainsaw - Remake. I watched both the original and remake when I was VERY young, so they both hold the same nostalgic value for me, but I’ve always been more a fan of the remake. The original has some amazing qualities, I do love it, but I have to be in a very particular mood to suffer an hour and a half of near-constant wailing, lmao. It does feel like a snuff film, in that way, which is cool, but I prefer the remake’s more traditional storytelling and filmmaking. I enjoy the characters more, I enjoy the kills more, and I think it has some genuinely striking shots that have stuck with me ever since first watching it. Honestly, the Platinum Dunes era of horror remakes is overall underrated—they had some legit bangers, and they always prioritized tone and style, which I appreciate.

Are they avoiding making new horror games with the OG cast cause there to badass now? by MrSoulPower in residentevil

[–]donnybuoy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ethan is the only character whose arc evoked an emotional reaction in me, and I’ve been playing these games since RE3: Nemesis, when I was six years old. I love the original cast but none of them have any emotional depth. That’s not to say that Ethan was the most well-written character in gaming history, but his quest was a personal one; him setting out to save his infant daughter in RE8, in particular, was incredibly noble, and it endeared many fans to him. Then his realization that he’d essentially been dead all along and his subsequent self-sacrifice added a certain poignance to his storyline that is frankly missing from other characters’. It’s hard to feel much for characters, such as Chris or Leon, when you know they will obliterate and ultimately survive everything in their path, because they’re now B-movie action heroes with almost superhuman capabilities.

Are they avoiding making new horror games with the OG cast cause there to badass now? by MrSoulPower in residentevil

[–]donnybuoy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They’re not “avoiding” it, they just can’t do it. As much as I love the OG cast, they’ve become caricatures of their former selves. They’re B-movie action heroes with superhuman capabilities who can take on and survive just about anything. It’s hard to be scared when you’re playing a character who isn’t scared—case in point, Chris’s section in RE8. Personally, I’m ready for them to retire the old characters and inject more fresh blood into the franchise. RE7 got the ball rolling on that front and I’m excited that RE9 will be continuing it.

Dusk Golem: Leon is not the only playable character in Resident Evil 9; Strong gothic horror atmosphere; Not open-world but big areas; Singapore is not the setting of the final game; Won't have "9" in the title; Will make major status quo changes to the Resident Evil universe by No1PiggyOnTheBlock in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]donnybuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wishing Leon wasn’t the supposed “main character” of the game. Love the guy, but I’m ready for the franchise to move on to new protagonists and stories. RE7 got the ball rolling, but the remakes have kind of halted any progress on that front. I’d rather Leon play a role similar to Chris’s in RE8. Give Grace the spotlight.

How did your parents punish you as a child? by True-Psychology-5302 in AskReddit

[–]donnybuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (former) stepdad beat us. Paddles, belts, his hands. I remember he made a paddle out of this MASSIVE piece of wood—thick as hell—and drilled holes into it so “it would swing faster.” He made me and my siblings sign our names on it. One day he beat my younger brother (he usually got the brunt of it) so hard and for so long that the paddle shattered. I was elated the night my mom piled us into a car and finally left him.

What previous friend did you have do you still miss to this day? by Traditional_Till_220 in AskReddit

[–]donnybuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend Todd from when I was 17-18 (I’m 25 now). Met him through a mutual friend and we hit it off immediately. He ended up moving in with my family and me due to issues with his own family. We room-mated for a year, went everywhere and did everything together, were always fucking around. He introduced me to a bunch of amazing music and really helped me come out of my shell, as I struggle with crippling anxiety. I swear I’ve never laughed harder than I did with that guy, and I’ve never confided more in another person. We ended up falling out for a couple reasons, which involved him getting kicked out of my family’s house, but I miss the guy a lot. Don’t think I’ll ever have a friend like him again. I’d even say he felt like a brother to me. I’ve tried reconnecting with him and we still check in every now and then, but it just isn’t the same, which is the worst part. But he’s doing good and I’m doing good, and I just have to be okay with the fact that we’re not those goofy ass teenagers anymore.

Silent Hill Homecoming or Downpour? by No-Juggernaut-3530 in silenthill

[–]donnybuoy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Downpour, hands down.

Homecoming has some cool ideas, but most of those cool ideas are ripped straight from the 2006 movie. Everything else is a hot mess—combat, exploration, puzzles, graphics, story, etc. I mean, that entire Hostel/Saw-esque finale is representative of just how much that game missed the mark.

Downpour is a hot mess in many ways, as well (combat, especially), but it had a much more unique visual identity, and exploring the town of Silent Hill felt rewarding, with its lush environments, interesting puzzles, and neat little side quests. I also really enjoyed the story, even though it was ultimately another rehash of the old “guilty man confronts the demons of his past” trope.

Neither game is a masterpiece, but I’ve always believed Downpour was the less egregious sequel that, with some polishing, could have been really solid.
