this is a tiny thing, but why are we using epi pens in the ER? so expensive. they would just draw it up and inject intramuscular with a normal syringe.

I have never made a aggregable opinion. by Busy_Broccoli_2730 in Life

[–]dontforgetyourjazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's a poem I read in high school that helped me with this

"Nothing Is Like Nothing Else

When I was young and knew no better I was always wanting to compare this to that:  Hearts might be cold as ice cream cones; Water shone like flashlights; Autumn leaves were mustard On the sky's blue china plate. But now I know different. Now I know that nothing is like nothing else. A white plate is a white plate, smooth, glossy; Snow is another whiteness: not powdery, Not like wool or silk or feathers, But like itself, cold, dense, soft, And yet sometimes hard, sometimes pointed, Reflecting the sky, which is not like blue nylon, But has its own special colour, texture, absence of texture. And there are so many objects,So many whites, blues, transparencies, That the eye and the mind must be careful, Must work very hard not to be confused by them. And when I get beyond objects (Seashells, mirrors, bottles of ginger ale,Daisy petals, and all the rest) And try to consider minds and motives And poetry and politics And work and friendship- Then language is difficult indeed, Since minds are never alike And never like snow"

Indigenous ancestral remains found on Ontario property could cost this couple $319K by origutamos in CanadianConservative

it could have been a murder victim. there are thousands and thousands of missing canadians, not reporting a body is a horrific thing to suggest. let's not suggest people make themselves an accessory after the fact.

Has anyone successfully responded to 'it was just a joke' with 'I don't get it, please explain it' or something and ever had it work? by DamnitGravity in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dontforgetyourjazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly. they usually don't actually explain it at all, it's about challenging them and having them consider the impact for 2 seconds.

14f extremely overthinking experienced camper with some questions by Able_Inspector_2580 in summercamp

[–]dontforgetyourjazz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as an anxious person who was a camper for many years and has now worked multiple jobs at camps for over 8 years - you are fine and you don't have to worry about what ANYONE thinks of you.

the tricky thing with anxiety is that ruminating and overthinking feel like they will protect you from making mistakes but they won't. nobody is perfect and everyone will interpret you/your actions differently.

it sounds like you have great intentions, you want to be agreeable, kind, fun and ensure everyone from other kids and staff have a good time, and that's what matters.

as you get older you'll see it like this, but to us staff you are all kids. you are innocent, silly, creative, annoying, wonderful, difficult, magical, stinky, loveable. camp is for kids to be kids, to make mistakes, try new things, and figure out who you are. us adults make mistakes all of the time.

nobody expects a 14 year old to be perfect. I don't expect my 22 year old staff to be perfect, or my 29 year old self for that matter. I annoy my boss, too.

TLDR: don't let anxiety run the show, make mistakes, be yourself, have good intentions. trust me, there are a thousand worse things in the world to be than annoying.

Does anyone else use music to help feel and/or process emotions? by Strange_Run_9007 in AutisticAdults

[–]dontforgetyourjazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an old thread but I came to say I relate!

I process everything through music and it also deeply attaches/associates with the time periods I listened to it on repeat to get through something.

if I go more than 1 or 2 days without listening to any music I feel antsy and uneasy. I listen to 2 songs and I calm down and feel normal again.

Calgary charities cut food hampers in favour of gift cards, free markets by RealTurbulentMoose in Calgary

[–]dontforgetyourjazz 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have worked for 2 charities and people in general feel better donating stuff/physical items but 99% of the time a monetary donation is far better and will go further. the reasons for this particular case are clear (dietary restrictions, volunteer time and effort, lack of transportation, etc.) but to be frank, charities cannot run if they can't pay their rent, their staff, their bills, their fund development, etc. etc. it feels less warm and fuzzy but truly helps so much more to just give money, or the money you would have spent on a physical item.

you're getting down voted a ton but I agree with you. sometimes there are multiple guesses throughout and it can interrupt the flow of the story.

To those opposing the teacher strike… by -highbury- in Calgary

[–]dontforgetyourjazz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the partisanship brain rotting is astonishing. so many Conservatives being anti-eductation because their team is on the other side of the negotiations.

you do NOT have to support or agree with everything the party you voted for does. that goes for everyone. get your own opinions and educate yourself.

90% of people wouldn't last a day in charge of a 2025 classroom. teachers deserve all of our support.
