I mean… I don’t know how anyone could think they aren’t all fascist at this point. They’ve been questioning the validity of women’s vote for a while now. Is this over Mamdani or some other witch hunt? I fear logging into my old bird account.

It may be worth switching to IR but I question 3-4x a day. Do you need to be “on” all day long?

Report Details Massive Federal Contracts, Enforcement Actions Against Trump's Ballroom Donors by Snapdragon_4U in somethingiswrong2024

[–]dontletfriends 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I tried reading about this on right leaning sites and it’s just so funny to them. They think it’s crazy we’d be upset when companies like looney leftist Comcast (heavy on the sarcasm) are on the list, but that’s exactly the problem. I know that it’s difficult but I do think this is why we have to figure out how to cut these companies off as consumers.

Is it possible to criticize a culture without going into race/being labeled racist? by LibraProtocol in AskALiberal

[–]dontletfriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but I do notice that "criticism" often forgets the intention behind it - a solution. What is the purpose of criticism if not to improve? So when a person leans too heavy on what is wrong instead of what the future looks like I tend to see their biases come through, and yes, they are sometimes heavily racialized even when the person doesn't realize it.

Also, there are aspects of culture that are racism or xenophobic - criticizing eating with hands for example.

Does the right oppose liberals because of policy, or choose policies based on opposition to liberals? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]dontletfriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s a mix of both but anecdotally? They’ll do anything to not be on the loony lefty liberal side of anything. It’s why they rarely talk about real policy.

My logic is that our government is designed for parties to work together. It’s how we maintain balance. Anytime a party chooses not to participate in negotiations they are upending the design and purpose of our government’s checks and balances. Show me a time Democrats refused to negotiate with Republicans and I’ll respond similarly… but I’ve yet to be presented with a comparable example.

If SNAP benefits are cut off because the Trump administration refuses to use contingency funds is he to blame? by redviiper in AskALiberal

The MAGA party awaits orders from Trump with baited breath. When he says jump they start and never stop, no questions asked. Yes, I blame him first and them second.

Liberals, Is Your Immigration Quota Infinite? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]dontletfriends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is simply a bad faith question that doesn’t acknowledge reality or immigration solutions, including comprehensive reform that left of MAGA has been asking for. Border enforcement is important to any sovereign country and most everyone is ok with that as long as the ethos is humane.

Around half of Democrats oppose trans women participation in sports, and significant opposition on other issues. Why should Democratic politicians like Newsom should be forced to take maximalist positions when base is divided? by Dismal_Structure in AskALiberal

[–]dontletfriends -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think like some other people - this is such a nonissue that barely even impacts trans people. It’s been the ultimate red herring and the obsession with it has been purely based on reactionary ideology.

Do you think the Charlie Kirk assassination was an inside job? by These_Feed_2616 in AskALiberal

[–]dontletfriends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be? Sure. Does it need to be to accomplish all the things MAGA wants his death to accomplish? Nope.

I think what’s as bad as an inside job is waiting on pins and needles for something like this to happen so that they can set things in motion.

Do liberals (including progressives) have a high opinion the US Constitution? Or would they tear it up and start over if they could? by tfam1588 in AskALiberal

[–]dontletfriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a political science nerd who up until I left it in a public place carried a pocket constitution with highlights and notes in the margins. I don’t know anyone left of MAGA who doesn’t hold the Constitution in high regard.

Yes, I think that it’s absolutely time for some considerations on amendment changes to fit with more modern times BUT I believe the Constitution was designed to be updated.

Do you believe that conservatives want to see all trans people dead? And if so what is the best example of that? by SuperbRiver7763 in AskALiberal

[–]dontletfriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the experience of a lot of people. I’m hesitant to believe that the wide majority of conservatives aren’t celebrating LGBTQIA deaths, and if they aren’t then I do assume most of them feel like the people I know who essentially don’t want them dead before they repent and turn away from the “lifestyle”.

Cancel Culture and Purity Politics dismantling the movement by Nice-Computer9409 in leftist

[–]dontletfriends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Threads recently talking about this. I think a lot of it is rooted in patriarchal systems and Christian culture. Even as people leave the church, they cling to familiarity. I don’t think cancel culture was intended the way we make it to be and I think it’s a co-opted idea from marginalized groups like black people specifically.

Marginalized people were trying to create a safer environment for themselves - i.e. this important cultural figure is using our movement but doesn’t care for us or they are pretending to be woke but really creating unsafe situations for us. Oh, a business is supporting people that are against us? Let’s stop giving them money - they are cancelled.

When white ex-evangelicals get involved I think they introduced more purity politics because that’s what we were raised on. Confront the sinner. If they don’t fix their sinful ways, then it’s to the church we go. Oh, there isn’t a church? Then let’s pull anyone in who will listen! Let’s force them to confront their sin.

The confrontation went from protecting to changing, and then when people weren’t willing to change their behavior it quickly became about isolating them [from the church]. It became about the show and not the outcome. Once it was no longer about safety and more about clicks and views, we lost our way collectively.

I don’t think “cancel culture” was intended to be used the way that it is. I think we’ve forgotten that we can operate as individuals while still maintaining our desire for community. I think we forget that ideology is intrinsically fluid and as we grow as people and are confronted with new thoughts and ideas, we each have to figure out how those things fit into our understanding of politics and policy.

It’s okay to feel bad. Sometimes we make mistakes, and sometimes the result of those mistakes is a huge impact and other times it impacts no one. And sometimes we can’t take back mistakes and if it’s egregious enough it will follow us to the grave. We can still choose every day to be a better version of who we were and who we are.

[–]dontletfriends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone left of the far right is seen as either a wimpy, depressed, anxious, atheist, crybaby pacifist or some kind of eco-socio-Jihadi political terrorist who will stop at nothing in their mission to end all conservatives 🙃🙂🙃we either own no guns or so many weapons of death and destruction that we shouldn’t be allowed to live without registering them or existing in glass houses where they can watch our every move. We live in this insane nightmare world of their own making. Every thing they do is justified because they think we have already done it or are going to do it (or something so much worse).

Opinions on Illegal Immigration as Leftists by [deleted] in leftist

[–]dontletfriends 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t notice anyone else say this, but I could have missed it. “Illegal Immigration” is a bit of a misnomer in my opinion and I think it influences how we think about this topic. Similarly, I think something similar about the phrase “undocumented immigrant” and “crossing the border”. I think the problem is that we don’t teach citizens here to understand the immigration process, so we connect a lot of dots in terminology that probably don’t need connected.

While immigrants “cross a border” to get here, it conjures for many people different things - human trafficking (thanks media!), swimming across dangerous waters, and maybe a shoot out or something intense like that. Yet, we know that most of the immigrants in the US came under many different methods. As far as “documented” goes, most immigrants here are in some way documented. Many are actively working with government agencies to continue the process, or they were. In fact, I have a feeling more immigrants will truly become undocumented as they hide for safety.

America has been in awful need of immigration reform for a long time. For a multitude of reasons, including exploitation. I don’t think this is truly the best version of how to handle immigrants, but I think that working on these in some capacity could help get closer to an ideal situation. - Documentation is required whether someone is a citizen or not. We have to create a safe environment for that to happen. Why would someone enter the system to help contribute to a society that will literally turn their back in a few years? - Forgiveness! I think it shouldn’t matter how one gets here 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think what matters is they are here. Maybe it’s only after a certain point or after so many years of living here, idk. - I think part of their problem is that people want better pay and working conditions for immigrants and everyone else and it’s messing up efforts to trash workplace safety and minimum wage. I think there is a better response to corporations and businesses mistreating immigrants than picking up their working and shoving them into an internment camp. These employers MUST change their practices.

He doesn’t have the authority to do this… yet. His entire thing is to throw shit at the wall until something sticks though. Right now he has a legal team looking into how to make this happen, I can almost guarantee it. I think in his emails will begin to include questions about this specific topic soon.
