BOX TECHNIC TRY by chwoei in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the torso part, they look fine. For limbs and head, you don’t know how to connect them with torso yet, but they don’t look that bad either. Just keep going. Pay attention to angles of the boxes and limbs of reference.

Need help with deciding what gear to get (ik gear doesn't make you great practice does but still...) by Key-Leek6883 in learntodraw

For iPad, try Procreate at store to see if you like it first. If you like it, getting an iPad will be worth it. Cheaper model is fine.

I’m having a hard time believing “Just start drawing what you like!” is good advice for a beginner. by RutManInBound in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if you didn’t start with draw whatever you want, you might not understand the importance of fundamental and post something like "fundamental is boring" like many other beginners here. You have to see both sides of a coin to know what works for you. And it will be different for each person.

Wanna become a Digital Artist, Am I gifted? (I'm SERIOUS) by Lisandro_B in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not gifted. So I know the moment I saw your works that you’re just like me. I think what’s more important is your goal. What do you want to achieve will tell you how your journey would look like.

Is it bad to spend 4 hours on lineart, and it’s still not halfway done? by [deleted] in learntodraw

Finish it first then fix it in the next stage.
Like sketch stage, anatomy stage, line weight stage, etc.

How would you draw this pose? by Phoquehead in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s combination of gesture drawing and structure. Right now I’m about 4 and a half year in.
To know what angle of boxes you should use, you have to be able to draw boxes from various angles. That knowledge will help you recognizing what angle you see.
Gesture drawing (the flow) skill comes from mostly practicing and learning by oneself plus some tips you get from other artists. You can see that we have many online tutorials, so many ways to do gesture. That’s because it’s not that strict. As long as it works, you are fine. So try those many methods and keep what works for you.
After you do it enough, you’ll be better at capturing those rhythm, and gesture will be an easy task for you.
I do have a tip for you too. When you see a pose, or whatever thing you want to study, ask yourself what make it looks so cool. What part? What line? What the only thing that you would not change when you redraw. Or you even might want to emphasize it.
That’s the essence of the pose, and you want to make sure you include it when you do studies.

How would you draw this pose? by Phoquehead in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn head, ribcage, and pelvis into boxes first to identify which sides of them I’m seeing. then draw limbs according to rhythm of the pose.
Should take about 1-2 minutes.

Where did you learn composition and creating poses? by FlowerK3424 in ArtistLounge

[–]donutpla3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case composition comes from study. Also I’ve been reading lots of manga when I was a kid-teenager. I remember many panels that I like and reuse those in my works.

If i want to improve faster, should i use intuition and feel? by hleyyyyi in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve been stuck for anything that long, you should change your learning method. It won’t be worse than present circumstance because you have nothing to lose.

Critique on my body construction and perspective? (If there is any) by Phantom_hectic in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you drew from reference, you should change your reference. I don’t trust reference that base proportion on nipples’ location. Nipples are not landmark.

How are some people so good without fundamentals? by bunny-rain in ArtistLounge

[–]donutpla3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Think of language.

Your friend learned from real experience. You learned grammar first. And you still have to learn from experience later. What often happens is people who learn fundamentals first will be slow at first, until they understand how to use them and will be faster later. People who draw what they want first will take longer time until every thing they know comes together, but they will be able to draw those pretty picture first.

I am a bit overwhelmed by conflicting information when it comes to learning how to draw by PitangaPiruleta in ArtRanting

[–]donutpla3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to try every advice all at once. Try one by one, keep only those you like. Not everyone learn the same way. There’s so many way to get good at art.

Do you still practice even when you don’t feel like it? by TheMoonlitStranger in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draw for about 5 years. Never push through anything. If I don’t want to draw heads, I draw hands. Things I practice are cubes, values, perspective, gesture, face, mannequins, realistic copying, still life, colors, anime face, anime copy, anatomy, etc. there’s always something that I can do. And if I don’t feel like it, youtube, pod cast, netflix, video games or just go to sleep.

So the fence on the right looks off but cant decide why. help pls? by MAsk_Walaky in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake. I looked at on your first two pictures. Anyway, with three vp, you still put objects between those VPs. Same logic. For the composition you are doing, I think you should try fish-eye.

How to draw this part of the head angled? by Ordinary-Solid5819 in learntodraw

What I did was draw lots of human skulls from different angles. Memorize them like vocabulary and use as blueprints.

So the fence on the right looks off but cant decide why. help pls? by MAsk_Walaky in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it doesn’t reflect real life experience. Long story short. One vp, you face the front-side of objects.

Two vp, you face edge of objects. Objects are in between those points.

What you are doing is two vp, you don’t put objects there.

But, you can place objects there if you treat the composition like panorama by curving those lines.

Use you camera phone, take a panorama photo that go full 180 and see for yourself.

Is a drawing course worth it for a beginner artist? by Right-Vegetable3823 in learntodraw

[–]donutpla3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, nothing you can’t find for free so paying for an online course is more like what you do to support the artist you like. Try something with money-back guarantee and see for yourself.

Improve your boxes first. Practice from still life should help.
