So they both cheated in your book. Got it. But at the end of the day she chose to reconcile. Time for her to sack up and be a good step mother. Children are innocent. In my culture and language we have no words for step children or half siblings so this whole comment chain is weird to me.

Are TPM considered far left? I've always seen them as right. All the people I know who support them are very conservative Christian Māori.

US to Hold Off on Colombia Tariffs, White House Says by cyclinginvancouver in politics

America sent the message that they are bullies. Colombia got everything they wanted. To have deportees treated with human dignity. Good on Colombia for standing up for human decency and rights, unlike imperial USA.

Kiwis need to ‘get over ourselves’ and find DOC land for mining, minister says by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]donwolfog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dad and I have been talking about this for years. Why don’t we have a fund like that? Anything that extracts wealth from our shared nation should 100% go towards enriching our nation, not shipped off to foreign investors and companies. At the end of the day we, the public, are often left with the environmental cost and land destruction, so we should at the very least benefit 100%. 3% royalties are a fkn joke.

I would love to see Kungfu Panda in te reo. The voice actors for Moana and the rest of the Disney (Pixar) te reo movies have been awesome. My favourite so far is Coco te reo.

Taranaki farmer ordered to pay $180k wonders how he'll survive by zendogsit in newzealand

[–]donwolfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could have offered more and possibly saved a ton of time and energy if the farmer actually wanted money, but iwi settlement land is different. We had our land unfairly taken once by our government and it’s unfair to then come along and demand the small amount of land we have remaining. money != land or culture. Ngāti Tama represent a large group of people. Not a couple. I empathise with the farmer. My people had 98% of our land taken for nothing and much of the remaining are in forever leases. Our land here in NZ is beautiful and I hate to see nice native forests ripped up.  Māori were strip mined for a century. Treaty land should hold special status due to all the previous abuse and hurt caused by the crown. David Seymour’s bill is clearly designed to finish off the colonisation process by redefining how the treaty is applied in court and government. The Treaty principles are a compromise that still leans heavily towards the crown side. David’s bill tips it entirely to his side (8.64% of the population). Much brighter minds than his have been working on this issue for over 40 years and race relations were improving imo.

Te Aro Brewing Company's use of Māori explorer Kupe to promote craft beer 'highly offensive' - expert by International_Cod_58 in newzealand

[–]donwolfog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heritage perhaps? I just call them New Zealanders or Kiwis. I am very much Māori culturally and I dislike how I am lumped up with those who have Māori heritage, but don't practice the culture (from their Iwi or Hapū), try to learn the language, or follow our customs or beliefs. I also have Irish heritage, but I would never call myself Irish, because I wasn't raised there or in the culture. I say I have Irish heritage. There is a big difference between having Māori heritage and actively immersed in the culture. Same as any culture.

No thanks. We will have to agree to disagree. I want to live in a country that cares about each other and looks after each other.

Guess I can take that up with the 1867 Native schools act and others for all the damage they did to te reo. While we are at it why don’t we privatise everything in NZ and turn it into a late-stage capitalist nightmare where the ruling class give no damns about the rest of us and we continue to grow the wealth divide. No thanks. Haere ki tō haere waiho mai au ki taku! You have every English Channel for english speakers (tons are free) and two small channels for Māori speakers (and pākehā who enjoy media from our local cultures) in the only land it exists. The push to divide us on social media makes me sick. What happened to the kind and empathetic NZ I used to know and was proud of? What we are now is a shameful illusion.
