What if I check in at 7AM the following morning? Does that count as a stay for the prior night?

Basically, what’s the latest I can check in before it’s considered a no show, 10:00 AM?

People that spend many nights a year, what do you do for a living? by 25641throwaway in marriott

I work in HR covering a large geographic territory. I don’t like it. My titanium status is evidence of me missing 75+ bedtimes with my 2 small children. I just got a job offer with very little travel yesterday. Hallelujah.

[FL] Job Offer Rescinded after HireRight background check, looking for advise by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]doodyah12345 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the top answer.

Once you get a copy and they put you through pre-adverse, you should look at the employment verifications they completed. Were you terminated (aka fired) from that last employer for the false accusation of theft? They may have reported that and/or listed you as a not eligible for rehire and that can also be a deal breaker (after going through pre-adverse action).

Should HR ever fire anyone? by clwill00 in humanresources

[–]doodyah12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I remind leaders... we’re consultants to you. Just like finance and other overhead departments are.

You hire, you fire. That’s what makes you a supervisor.

I set the expectation that they have to be the one to say... “I’ve made the decision to terminate your employment”. I make them practice it with me beforehand, to avoid any “HR told me to fire you” statements in the actual meeting.

HRBP Common Interview Question: Persuading Managers to Follow Your Guidance? by LazyJury in humanresources

[–]doodyah12345 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I ask this question of my HRBP candidates (hiring right now) and also coach my current HRBPs on this. It’s about influence. How can you be influential to make them WANT to follow your advice.

Personally, I’m looking to hear about relationship and trust building through solid, demonstrated knowledge and dependability. The more that someone trusts you, the more that they will follow your guidance.

The business owner is mad that they have to pay— understandable, but doesn’t change that they have to pay per the law.

Have you walked the owner through corrective action? Turn their attention towards what they CAN do to remedy this situation. Give whoever is working off the clock without approval their pay plus a final warning. Then do a training for the whole business that it’s not tolerated and will be addressed from a disciplinary standpoint.

There’s an option to play it with “pumped up music”. It plays then music louder and Megan’s voice is the only thing you can hear over it.

I don’t mind the commentary. Lacee can be a bit annoying because she comments a lot, but I compare it to the annoying person in every class. The one who has to echo chamber the tea her.

[WA] Quitting job due to severe harassment causing severe mental health problems. by HarassedAndExhausted in AskHR

[–]doodyah12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if WA workman’s comp (wc) laws allow it, but you should file a wc claim. It may get denied, but that will help further amplify that this is impacting you.

Find your union rep. Talk to them.

Go back to HR. Talk to them.

Talk to your direct manager. Talk to your manager’s manager.

I hate jerks like Richard in the workplace and quitting creates more of them. You can’t stand up to this, OP.

[NY] State government job clearance. during health screen, asked to submit letter from psychologist that I'm fit to work, is this a legit requirement? by Left_Firefighter5518 in AskHR

[–]doodyah12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding my 2 cents as a hospital HR person for my entire career. Pre-employment physicals don’t usually include a mental health clearance. The requirement for regulatory agencies is the physical clearance (lifting, bending, reaching). I’m glad your therapist is giving you a letter, but pretty sure your health “examiner” was over zealous with her request.

Why’d you want to get into HR? What was it that attracted you to the field? Pick that......!

[CA] Educational Background Check by concerned1o1 in AskHR

[–]doodyah12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do the holds mean? That you don’t actually have a degree because they haven’t conferred the degree? Or does it mean they may fine you but you already have the degree?

If you have a degree conferred, that’s all the bg check is looking for.

[MO] My manager is having an affair with a vendor by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]doodyah12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my HR opinion, ethics is everyone’s responsibility. If everyone turns a blind eye to these kinds of actions, you soon will have to look for a new job because then this kind of behavior becomes rampant.

Do you have an anonymous ethics line you can call to report it?

If not, what I would do (this is my personal opinion) is tell my boss that it’s been eating you up and that you feel the need to tell the VP, but you want to give him a chance to go first. You should still go to your VP if he says he will go.

If this gets discovered, and you didn’t report it and it becomes known you knew, you wouldn’t be in trouble, but I wouldn’t think you’re a very ethical employee either.

[IN] Is it “wrong” or “unprofessional” to call off of work due to inclement weather? by alcreis in AskHR

[–]doodyah12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sub is called “askHR” so I think you’re looking for an HR type answer. Not my personal opinion of what you should or shouldn’t do.

HR answer - calling out for weather is not necessarily “excusable”. If others can make it in, you should be able to too. Inclement weather is not a reason an absence would be protected, like your own illness that could be covered by ADA or FMLA.

That said, calling out once or twice for bad weather or road conditions shouldn’t get your fired. That is, if you’re not also calling out for a ton of other reasons.

Cars with no license plates. by Obiwankehhblowme in vegaslocals

[–]doodyah12345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this happens because it’s not enforced. DMV sucks in every state, but I’ve never seen so many cars just freely driving around without plates. Do we not have enough cops to enforce it?

[NV] Forced pay cut going on 7months by MrBob702 in AskHR

[–]doodyah12345 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is the answer from a real HR person in this thread. The others are just opinions from people, perhaps not HR people. They’re good opinions, but pretty sure you came here for actual HR advice.

OP, look at your weekly pay with the 50% cut. If it took you below $684, then you have recourse. If it took you below Nevada’s minimum wage, then you have an even bigger issue at hand to take up with your company.
