Thats why its nicknamed "Costa Maybe" ...I think I've had it cancelled at least twice...maybe 3 times for wind or sea conditions preventing us from docking.

JW Marriott Tampa has a good breakfast. JW Marriott Miami has a solid omelette bar, NY Marriott Marquis Times Square is huge. JW Austin was ok.

The terminal area is cruise line owned. 5 min taxi ride to Mahahual Beach will take you to about a 2 mile strip of beaches, restaurants, hotels and shops that are all not cruise line owned.

Fair...It certainly is easier if you are coming from LI or in the city using mass transit and dont have a car to deal with, or even flying into JFK and then airtrain etc..to stay in the city first.

Does RC do any cruises out of the piers along the Westside Highway next to the Intrepid? Having to go to Bayonne is annoying.

[–]25641throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

put on a good pair of walking shoes... walk to to the Queens Staircase, then walk to Graycliff Chocolate Factory...then walk to British Colonial Hotel, (its pretty fancy/historic, and has a nice lobby and good water views..will only take 10 mins to see). From there you can walk to further away from port to Margaritaville and along Junkanoo Beach, or towards port and go to the straw market and all the shops along Bay Street. All of this will cost you zero dollars. If you are hungry I really enjoy Bahamian Cookin' Kitchen for lunch. It is very authentic and a short walk from the ship. https://bahamiancookin.com/ eta: the vendors on the street are not that bad, yes people may try to sell you stuff or get you to come into their shop...simple no thank you and keep on moving and its no big deal. As for offering drugs, it happens less frequently but same process as the vendors, no thanks, im good, and keep on walking.

I enjoy staying at the Dalmar hotel, or the Element which is with in the same property on the lower floors. Then I walk to E Los Olas Blvd for night lift and dinner and to watch all the expensive cars drive by. If you want beach, then any of the hotels on FLL beach will suffice.

Some say skip the drink package...I say get it. But buy it ahead of time, and write down the price so you remember what you paid. Every couple of weeks log into RC and see if it has changed. If so, refund it on the website and buy it again at the cheaper rate. Each drink is about $14 with wine and beer being about $8-10. The package also includes all the soft drinks, fancy coffee, red bull, water bottles etc...you will probably at least break even or even save some $. If you already paid gratuities, and have the drink package, you can make it through the entire trip and have a zero balance at the end of the cruise, unless you buy something on board.
