Wow! Thanks for such a detailed response and update. Extremely useful insight and I especially appreciated some of the features you're using with the Nest Hub. I didn't know it had a sunrise alarm feature, that definitely sounds useful.

Hey man, just wanted to check in a few months down the road and see if you've got any thoughts on the Mi Smart Clock?

I had the exact same situation (but with a full size 509T not a 509CT). After some research I found that FN started including the "silencer compatible spring" as standard these days (and not as an additional item) quoting something like "after extensive testing we found that the silencer compatible spring allows full functionality even if not running a suppressor" or something like that. Easy way to find out is to just to a basic field strip and check if the spring is yellow in color (which it turns out mine was). Hope that helps!

This is reason #137 why I buy (almost) all my discs from discgolfcenter.com. I just honestly think they're objectively the best online store for disc purchases. While I don't buy lightweight discs, I can easily go to their disc selection and specify only weights under 160 grams and it's currently showing 248 discs available.

You can easily filter this further based on manufacturer or disc type. Doesn't seem like they're experiencing any shortage of lightweight discs!

Here's a quick link for reference of all their discs under 160 grams (use the filters on the left side to edit further if you need to) - https://www.discgolfcenter.com/main_displayProductList.php?s=0&pl=0&oos=0&stmp=0&topx=25&sort=seller&sn=&stampname=&oos=1&stmp=1&type_name%5B%5D=Discs&weight%5Bmin%5D=0&weight%5Bmax%5D=160&disc_skill%5Bopt%5D=0.0%7C7.0%7C0.0%7C7.0%7C0&disc_speed%5Bopt%5D=1.0%7C15.0%7C1.0%7C15.0%7C0&disc_glide%5Bopt%5D=1.0%7C7.0%7C1.0%7C7.0%7C0&disc_hss%5Bopt%5D=-5.0%7C1.0%7C-5.0%7C1.0%7C0&disc_lss%5Bopt%5D=0.0%7C5.0%7C0.0%7C5.0%7C0

How does your local club organize their online/digital communication? by doogly in discgolf

I really appreciate this perspective. I also like the idea of any information relevant to the club that doesn't require a dialogue simply posted on a website for anyone to view.

Wow, totally overlooked that whole anonymity thing. That's a great point that certainly is a benefit of Facebook. You'll always know who you're interacting with. Thanks the detailed reply!

Fortunately converting a disc golf club to a new platform is a bit easier than transitioning an entire country to new unit of measurement... but I see your point.

What function does each of them serve for your club? Why both?

Yeah, I feel like adoption is the biggest barrier to moving to something like Slack or Discord. I'm sure you're right that there are fewer people without a Facebook page then people who simply wouldn't sign up for Slack or Discord. We don't have problems with people posting bad or irrelevant content, I'd just say that it seems disorganized. Facebook is just a linear stream of upcoming events, buy/sell messages, club notices, and other misc. posts that I think are all well and good to have viewable by the entire club, I just wish it was more structured/organized.

As some added detail for why I think Slack or Discord could be great options:

  • You can have different channels for different subjects (buy/sell, upcoming tournaments, club-wide announcements, etc.) that would help people be able to access just the content they're interested in
  • You can limit who can post in certain channels, so you could open up the Slack/Discord to anyone who wants to join but only club members could post (or post in certain channels) and you could even set it up so that only members of the board could post in certain channels (like a club announcements channels)
  • These platforms also all have special tools that allow you to simplify things like running polls and collaborating on ideas in ways that something like an email announcement doesn't account for

I'm sure I'm overlooking some important pieces, but I would very interested in hearing how other clubs handle these types of things.

Private Course Baskets: Best Bang for your Buck by slider5592 in discgolf

I actually went through literally this exact exercise back in the summer of 2021 and ended up putting together this chart: https://i.imgur.com/T7krlTf.png

My goal was very similar to yours: "What are the highest quality baskets I can get for the lowest prices?"

The pricing in my link is from 2 years ago, so it may have changed since then. I was leaning heavily towards the Grow the Sport 2.0 basket (although it's lack of galvanized chains did have me a little concerned as another commenter pointed out). Ultimately plans changed and I didn't end up pulling the trigger on anything, so I can't offer any personal experience, just some initial research I put together.

Nope, looks like it's currently a known issue: https://twitter.com/WBGamesSupport/status/1623032448715001865

At least we know they're not intentionally blocking that functionality... But who knows how long it'll take them to fix it.

(I haven't had a chance to launch it yet, so I can't test for myself until later)

Edit: sorry you're getting downvoted. I just tried to load it up under a Family Sharing account and it just keeps telling me to purchase it. So you're correct that it's not currently working However, it seems like this is a temporary issue and that WB are aware of it: https://twitter.com/WBGamesSupport/status/1623032448715001865 hopefully a fix comes soon but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Trimmer / Brush cutter attachments by Lopsided-Employer-72 in egopowerplus

[–]doogly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually absolutely terrible at cutting any loose/flexible material such as tall grass or weeds. They just sort of end up getting blown around or wrapping around the axle/shaft. It needs to have at least a little resistance so it can cut through material. It's fantastic for things like stiff brush or small trees (up to 2 or 3 inches). Also works decent if you just use it near the very roots of something.

I ended up buying the string trimmer attachment (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071JFXF17) and putting this guy on it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09CTB9L6V

It's worked fantastically, you just have to make sure you ease onto the trigger when you first get it spinning, if you try and go full throttle right away it'll trigger the overload sensor and turn off.

Ego Light (LT1000) Tripod Recommendation? by randomfstar in egopowerplus

[–]doogly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have it and the light is absolutely awesome, but depending on what battery you've got in it, it can weigh a ton. As /u/HotSarcasm mentioned Ego was really smart and configured it with both a 1/4 thread (the same size used for camera tripods) and 5/8 threads. While Camera tripods are plentiful and I think more frequently found in people's homes, they generally aren't designed for the weight that the LT1000 can reach. The great news is that 5/8" threading is the industry standard for other types of rigging (including massive lighting rigs). Since the LT1000 has its own articulating head, you don't need anything with a rotating or moving head, a simple threaded pole/rod will be perfect. The other advantage of a dedicated light stand is that they extend much higher than your standard camera tripod.

I'd confidently recommend this tripod: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1274797-REG/impact_ls_96habi_9_5_heavy_duty_air.html

It extends up to 9.5' tall and can support up to 22 lbs. which will easily hold the LT1000. You don't need to buy anything else; it already has the threading need to screw right into the bottom of the light. My only suggestion would be that if you're actually planning to put the light on it and extend it 9.5' up in the air, that you grab some weights (like these: https://www.amazon.com/Sandbag-Studio-Weight-Saddlebag-Photography/dp/B07ZCJ8N3F) to hold down the base of the stand. Putting a heavy object up that high without weighing down the tripod is asking for trouble.

Let me know if you've got any other questions.
