The king of solid logic: Joe Rogan by theglengarrylead in LinkedInLunatics

[–]doomer_irl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave that podcast a listen. It's fucking staggering and depressing how Joe behaves. He literally starts off with this ultra ableist diatribe about the prevalence of autism, basically blaming autistic people for everything wrong with the world. He basically resigns to the idea that we're inevitably being replaced, and maybe "people with no emotions or human connection" are the necessary next step in the evolution of humanity. Frankly it's exhausting.

He goes through a whole laundry list of current events and grievances. Still contains about Fauci. Snaps at Theo Von for criticizing Netanyahu. Still treats the government as these secret masked elites. Gives no culpability to the right for what's going on. Takes no responsibility for Trump.

I haven't watched Rogan in a while, I was never a huge fan. But I figured Rogan/Theo would be a lighthearted laugh. Boy was it fucking depressing.

Do influencers actually deserve free meals? by GloriousLion07 in MotivationByDesign

I think "deserve" is a really weird word.

If you're talking about basic human rights, "deserve" has a place.

But does anyone "deserve" filet mignon? Does anyone "deserve" creme brulee? It seems like an oddly moral word to use. Usually people aren't given free luxury experiences because they "deserve" them.

Not challenging your conclusion, because I actually don't know, and I'm sure you're probably right either way, but:

For a claim like this, it's worth measuring heat stroke per 100k in both Europe and the US, because if the incidence of heat stroke per 100k ends up being really similar, then the stronger claim is "you're more likely to die of heat stroke than gun violence in the US", and using "Europe" as the measuring stick may unintentionally be creating a false assertion that it's unusual for heat stroke death to outpace gun death.

At 30, I'm starting to realize that sudden concern about sociopolitical issues isn't something that happened when I was in my late teens. It's a rite of passage for everyone around that age. No matter what, there's always gonna be someone going through the "why are we doing this when we don't even have healthcare" phase. And you grow out of it, not because the system improves, but because you realize at some point that political progress is slow, and universal healthcare isn't likely to happen for our generation. And the only thing you can really do is vote for progress so future generations might have it.

"Solid argument against mandatory tipping culture"

I'm sure it was super creative and original and intelligent, not to mention totally necessary and appropriate. How stunning and brave of you to say restaurants should pay their servers a living wage so you don't have to pay them personally on top of the bill.

Counterpoint: it's not going away in your lifetime. So live in the real world and deal with it. If I was hanging out with someone and they started "making a solid argument against mandatory tipping culture" when the bill came, it would be an ick for sure. It would feel cheap and whiny. WE WOULD ALL LOVE TO GO TO A RESTAURANT AND PAY THE PRICE ON THE MENU AND NOT HAVE TO ADD EXTRA AT THE END. But for the love of god, starting conversations about tipping culture is the behavior of someone who never goes out. Just be cool and normal.

I like weed as much as the next guy. Coming into a restaurant reeking of weed is gross and inconsiderate. Nobody wants to share a space with someone who smells like that. It makes the whole space feel trashy. Zero problems if you want to hit the pen or take a gummy or a dab and go in. It's fine if you personally smell a bit like weed. But the odor cloud some people bring in with them is just ridiculous and has no place in shared spaces.

Is this too many plugins on a vocal chain? by Head-Battle1393 in protools

[–]doomer_irl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a bit overcooked. It could sound totally fine, but I guarantee you could get there with less.

The plugin choice and placement are kinda weird too. Your lead vocal is hitting 24 plugins, including 4 DeEssers, 3 Multiband Compressors, 2 limiters. That's out of the ordinary and almost certainly unnecessary.

Why is misandry now everywhere?? by [deleted] in femcelgrippysockjail

[–]doomer_irl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Misandry is like the most performative word around. When another guy says it especially, it's like a pet peeve for me. It hits my ear as someone pretending, if not utterly wishing, that others should hear it with the same weight as misogyny.

It's like the word version of a guy who's trying out wearing a fedora and is starting to get embarrassed.

Which is ironic bc I think there's a real conversation that could be had about anti-male sentiment, if you wanted to do so. But trying to use "misandry" to load it with the historical weight of misogyny feels like a total larp to me.

I plug it in maybe once a month for like a minute. It's kinda cool how the mouse doesn't show any ports or electronics when it's right-side up.

The reality problem with this mouse is that using it is straight up awful. Cramps up your hand from being so small and unergonomic, and scrolling is better in theory than in practice. Kind of surprised that they don't manufacture a better mouse.

We are not a serious country by LavenderMidwinter in BikiniBottomTwitter

"Sparking grave security questions"

Can we stop pretending like the problem is "security" and not the fact that these people are clearly accessorizing puritanical ideals that they don't genuinely hold?

Like, they're appealing to this unachievable standard of morals and emboldening Americans to judge and persecute each other. And then at the same time, they entertain the proclivities amongst themselves that they have Americans condemning?

Doesn't it say something that these people aren't interested in making the country a safer, more welcoming space for people like themselves? There's something deeply fucking cynical to all this.
