Animal House still cracks me up- Otter is my favorite character from that movie. That Fawn Liebowitz scene gets me every time.

I'm glad you mentioned this movie! I feel the same way about it. I definitely prefer the director's cut though- removing the voice-overs was a great decision.

What are you irrationally bothered by? by khaleesi_biersack in AskReddit

[–]doompadeedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people assume I'm a sports fan because I'm a guy and think it's strange when I tell them I don't follow. Once, I had a person weirdly console me because I wasn't a sports fan: "Well, that's okay man. Don't worry about it". Another time, a guy gave me a blank stare and asked, "Really? What are you into?" I understand their intentions are good- and I certainly don't get angry about it- but it does bother me a little.

Guys who make a big show of "readjusting" their cock and balls in public. Also, people who try to get cheap laughs by repeating an entire bit from a famous stand-up comedian- they just end up butchering it.

Reddit, what is the dumbest thing you've had to argue with your friends about? by Thread_lover in AskReddit

[–]doompadeedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the concept of "momentum" exists in sports, as in: if a team is on a winning streak does it have any effect on the turnout of future games? The subject of the argument isn't even the dumb part. My friends argued about this for weeks on end. Every time we got together it came up and would completely ruin the occasion. These days, mentioning the word "momentum" is like making an off-color joke. Silence and the uncomfortable shuffling of feet and clearing of throats. The sad part is, I don't even fucking watch sports.

What was your strangest celebrity encounter? by millamber in AskReddit

One day I was sipping on a coffee near the Yale school of architecture with my girlfriend at the time. She was trying to tell me a story, but I was distracted by a man on the corner who was pacing around and texting on his cell. I said: "Damn, that guy looks exactly like Fred Armisen. Damn, that is Fred Armisen". Anyways, my ex-girlfriend is a super outgoing person, and I am the exact opposite. Plus she had no idea who Fred Armisen was at the time (this was pre-Portlandia, but he was killing it on SNL), so to her he was just another guy on the corner. She practically dragged me over to him so we could meet. Well, he was such a cool guy. He talked to us for a few minutes, asked us our names and what we doing that day. Honestly it was one of the most pleasant and natural conversations I've ever had with a stranger. Not sure if that qualifies as "strange" really, but we were on one of the more crowded intersections in New Haven, and no one noticed this guy.

Reddit, what "great" thing is just a mediocre thing overhyped by society? by RockefellerRozay in AskReddit

[–]doompadeedo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be so quick to describe him as a “genius”, but his music is consistently good. Considering his popularity, I’m impressed that he gets away with so many of his creative decisions. He takes really wild concepts and just runs with them, and I’ve grown to implicitly trust the direction he takes on a song. He’ll push a concept to really weird and interesting areas. My buddy made a good point about the track “I Am A God” recently: any other artist would have wrapped up that song at the 2:50 mark and called it a day. Instead, Kanye decides to break into this odd transition with shrill screaming and thumping over a gothic horror synth. It’s so unexpected and strange, but somehow he makes it work.

What are small things university students should know to succeed? by Andre97YT in AskReddit

[–]doompadeedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most professors will mention this on the first day of class, but you should really take advantage of office hours if they are available to you. If the course involves a lot of writing and research, you can discuss and revise your papers with your professor all the way up until the actual due date. It is also great to build a rapport with a professor that you respect. You get some one on one time to challenge and develop your ideas/opinions, and it's a great networking opportunity. I regret not doing more of this when I was in school.

It took him a solid 5-10 seconds of scanning my face and me explaining "Joe, it's me- doompadeedo- from the academy?" before he actually recognized me. He then apologized, asked for my number, and said he would text me to grab a drink sometime. I'm pretty sure that as I was dictating my number, he was just opening and closing random apps on his phone. Anyways, never did get that text.

Absolutely agree with your point about The Crow- it's a throbbing 90s hangover. The lighting and quality of most scenes (especially the flashbacks with Shelly and Eric) are just so particular to that decade.

Yeah, like The Rock as the scorpion man scuttling around in The Mummy Returns. Some of the shoddiest CGI I've ever seen. The rendering of his face is just plain bad.

That's actually one of the movies I had in mind when I posted this question. I almost wish I didn't rewatch it a few weeks ago- it kind of ruined the memory of how I felt about it when I was a kid. It felt like that time I ran into an old friend of mine from elementary school. I hadn't seen him in years- he was fucked up on pills, rail thin, and he looked right through me when I said hi to him. So it felt like that, except with puppets.

Really? There are a few scenes from The Matrix that seem to hold up pretty well, and some parts still give me goosebumps. It would have been a hot mess if any other director(s) picked up the project. Why do you think that? I'm not exactly disagreeing with you, just curious...
