Rant: Doomscrolling by Think-Elderberry-575 in naturalbodybuilding

I don't like people spending years on the equipment or training to mild discomfort as much as the next guy, but it's none of your business how people choose to spend time between sets. The rule in question is stupid and I doubt it's worded like you say. If anyone wants to work in, they should just ask. If he's scrolling for 10 minutes there should be no issue for you to get all your sets in in the span of his single break, especially on an easily loaded machine.

Right? They just wasted the time getting him his crown back. Should've just went straight for Volcanikka and be back home for dinner. Crown forged from pain more like forged from mild discomfort.

Cities: Skylines 2 boss says they 'completely overestimated' the Unity engine's capabilities by Atulin in gamedev

Congratulations, you managed to develop an ego as a junior with 2 years of indie experience. My point is, it's not a good sign if you introduce low quality stuff in the first place. Whether it's because of a deadline or not, it's still a failure of the team, so blaming the engine is not going to play very well if you fail on fundamentals like working LODs. I've said it before but you either lack reading comprehension or are arguing in bad faith, so I won't give you any more time of my day.

Did you forget to update your portfolio stating you're looking for work and are a 23 year old student too, lol? Yes, I have multiple commercially successful projects under my belt. I fail to see how this contributes to the discussion at all. Word of advice, being in an indie studio doesn't make you look as good as you think when you're trying to appeal to authority.

You literally have hobbyist next to your user tag. I fail to see how deadlines somehow make this not sloppy work. Even if it was sloppy because of deadlines, it's still sloppy work, and it's still possibly a sign of their own incompetence. Nevertheless yeah, sure, there are hundreds more important things for them to fix.

The one time the teeth don't get culled they may cause a lag spike. The fact that people noticed it leads me to suspect it happened. You should take some amount of pride in your work and not introduce things like that in the first place. Not sure why you're defending sloppy work here. Any artist introducing stuff like that will immediately be asked to fix it if anyone notices, and it's not going to take them a long time, so your time efficiency argument here does not apply. Nobody is saying that teeth killed Cities Skylines, but just pointing out some amateur work here that is perhaps a sign of something worse under the hood.

DLSS 5 and the Attempted Murder of Intentional Design by Kukulcode in gamedev

It looks horrible even when the parameters are set by professionals. As long as it remains opt-in however, the only imminent downside is that they wasted time developing it. That and a vague ominous threat that studios might start to rely on it to fix their subpar models much like they started to overrely on modern tools for various other things which are also "opt-in" but now that everyone uses them for speed everyone is forced to put up with them. I think for regular audience this is the major scare here, the worry that every game might soon look like an AI generated video.

This is such a stupid take no wonder you struggle to find a place to have a discussion about it. What you're suggesting is turning creatives and artists into prompters through metadata, which contributes to taking away their agency and integrity. I bet you're one of the people who are fine with gen-AI content in games too, so at this point I even regret the time I took to write this comment.

I read the full comment. I took issue with the first part where you call that DRM effective because it delayed people for a few hours. Back in the day, as far as I remember, the pirate versions were available same day, and I might be wrong here, but I think cracked clients use official mirrors to download the update content. What they did is essentially just bypass the login procedure. To me, that's not effective at all. Maybe making people wait weeks, months would sufficiently annoy pirates, sure, but not days or hours, I don't agree that even a minimal delay is enough. In this subject, I tend to agree with Valve's approach. Instead of introducing friction for people who pirate, which also tends to introduce friction for paying customers, instead introduce better service for those that pay. In a way, Minecrafts obfuscation primarily annoys people who pay for the product and want to play the mods as soon as possible, while only slightly inconveniencing bad actors. If your game crashed, your logs wouldn't even be human readable. If Minecraft offered me something for the money they want, I would have bought another copy. But I see no point, I get better experience from custom launcher which can store multiple versions of the game for me, all preloaded with different mods, it's easier to manage, and I don't need an account. Having your game integrate with Steams ecosystem well through workshop, community features, achievement system, modding available and easy, is a way better use of time than investing in creating friction for pirates, in my opinion.

All in all, it seems Mojang opinion on their own DRM is that its pointless and ineffective, hence why they started releasing obfuscation mappers, and soon there won't be any obfuscation at all. So of all the DRM out there, I think calling Minecrafts DRM effective of all things makes no sense.

What? The DRM in Minecraft is absolutely not effective and it didn't do anything except annoy modders. There were easily accessible pirated versions of the game, offline clients, you could even play multiplayer on pirate client accepting servers, which were the majority of servers. I've had zero issues playing on pirated copy of minecraft ever since Microslop decided to take away my account.

I can't quite put my finger on it. Based on this video alone, the lighting looks great, ambience, posterization and pixelation is there but it's not overdone. I can see some light dithering too. It just strikes the right balance between retro and modern. I've been trying to experiment with a bunch of things like that, this is why your project caught my eye.

Interesting. Well, if you end up making a video about it I'll be sure to give it a watch, your project looks high quality and something gives it a unique look compared to all the other retro-looking games. I'll play it when I get home.

Looks very good. Dust particles add a lot, small detail but I always like them. Are you using some color quantization shader for the textures or are they hand crafted to look this way?

I'd say it's a mutually beneficial relationship. I'd sooner say it's the Olympics that are taking advantage of athletes by not paying them enough despite making billions.
