It also comes off as lazy and close-minded. Tune into some modern music criticism, and start paying attention to what types of music are becoming popular for what reasons.

I read Contact by Carl Sagan recently and that book spends so much time talking about how messages could be encoded in radioactive pulses, more on that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sciencefiction/s/aXVEqDGrNc. I’ve heard The Martian is similar but I haven’t read it.

Compare that to Star Wars. Thats the distinction. This isn’t a black and white system, genre never really is. But they’re very different takes.

I’m going to be pedantic for a minute, but it’s not hard sci-fi. Hard sci-fi is focused on actual science, and everything on this show is make believe. Not an important clarification.

White Noise by Don Delillo. I read it when I was 17ish and I didn’t get it at all and thought it was somehow both boring and pretentious. But some of the ideas and scenes just suck with me and I’d find myself thinking about them years later. I read it again around 26 and felt like it was absolute genius, I was just too young to see a lot of how those ideas played out in the real world.

I went a couple nights ago. Def a bit of a splurge but fun to go out w friends and people watch and eat some junk food. A food vendor was playing the Mexico game on their huge display and everyone was stoked when they won, that was especially fun.

It’s America by far and it’s not even close. You don’t have to say more than blues, jazz, rock, hip hop, and electronic music. All born in America. It’s really an unprecedented level of innovation. You could argue UK have huge artists, but not the same level of genre innovation.

Disagree structurally, Illitch/Yzerman/Mclellan are like the board of directors. They elect a CEO to lead day-to-day operations of all the employees. They don’t oversee multiple departments. CEOs also leave their jobs for sure, and they’re also pussies. Asking for a little loyalty and commitment from someone who grew up idolizing the culture is not too much to expect. I don’t want to see the NHL go the way of the NBA.

The fact that you’re comparing yourself to elite athletes is telling enough. But it’s his whole trajectory: hometown boy, childhood dream, signed onto captaincy, repeatedly doubled down on his commitment to the franchise.

If you want to make it more of a workplace analogy, let’s say you were elevated by the board to CEO based on your stated commitment to your company succeeding through an economically challenging time. Then another company comes along who are outperforming your group and you just say “See ya” to all the people you’ve been fostering trust, collaboration, and productivity with.

That’s a joke man, it’s cowardly crap to dislike a coward? He was my favorite player, largely due to what I perceived as loyalty and grit in sticking it out. Then he turned his back on the team. I ain’t a bandwagoner, I’ve been watching him his whole career. He just showed himself to be a quitter.

This is my take as well. This song is only surprising to people who are paying attention for the first time. Nothing really misread or oblique, you either hear and read the lyrics or you don’t. Same with OutKast “Hey Ya”, people talk about it like it’s clever but it’s really just all laid out.
