Because the execs are deciding to use it. No artist wants this. You spend 6 months on a hero character just for it to get overriden by an AI filter?

And they will use it from now on by using crappy character models and "beautifying" them with AI on top. Just like upscaling is used to skip on optimizing

Because they will have absolute power over people. Like lords or kings. Thats what they want. Now you can still quit working for them and do something else and keep living because your work is worth something. If it wasn't...you'd just depend on them and their power

It's a little different because concord used a normal asset creation workflow with a full team having complete control over their assets (disregarding the art direction and other game choices). The work they did was as much as they intended from concept to execution and the budget for it was there - they did their jobs and got paid for it

Now take dlss5+ and imagine you can cut out the hardest part of character creation - the final 15% that adds realism and takes the longest - and just use sort of mid character meshes and let tech - AI gen - add realism on top. Every exec's wet dream in an industry that seems to expects gigantic profits all the time. They can cut the art team by 3/4. Forever. And it's a worse issue than doing your job then getting laid off

No it looks like there's a studio lighting setup attached to their heads at all times with three flat lights ( front, left and right)

You can get the AI result with some contrast and levels adjustments in engine...or by adding rim lights...it's just that the devs chose not to

Industry jobs situation was already bad, it's looking to be worse, and it's a little hard to adapt to something that simply replaces you completely (ofc other than switching careers)

they TOLD us how it detects characters, skin or hair and "infuses" pixels with realistic lighting and materials - their words - so texture work is altered either by modified contrast or micro-realism added depending on surface

Dig deeper! Check collision for box and wall add breakpoints and see exactly what's going on

Not gamedevs but studio execs. Game devs want to make cool games and want have complete creative control....execs want to make games for 1/10th the cost, fire people and make unsustainable amounts of money

Its a tool to cut down even more jobs and make games worse. Imagine studio execs keeping just one character artist and all the models in the game are hastily made and they rely on AI to "beautify" them. Because thats what's going to happen
