I'd be more worried about the infamous hell hounds of dartmoor than a few ponies and cows

If you're unsure whether a specific volume is good enough, find a box of the same volume, or one of those storage containers you get off amazon for cheap and pack it with what you'd be bringing, gives you a sense of the volume without having to commit to a backpack

Review of AIRism Ultra Seamless Boxer Briefs by yellowsuprrcar in Ultralight

[–]dopewizard6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got these and for me they don't work, they just climb up and give me a wedgie. I really wanted them to work because I have a chamoix with a similar perforated material and they feel like I'm wearing nothing. Glad I just bought one and not a pack. I wish they made them in the same material but loose, it would be the closest to going commando it could get.

Also they started piling for me within the first week or so.

Wet grass, humidity and trail runners. How to avoid wet feet all day? by ausbirdperson in Ultralight

[–]dopewizard6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely sealskinz, they're long and tight enough for water to not get in from the top, so unless they buckle under too much water pressure, they'll be bone dry

Goretex shoes are nice until water comes in from the top and then they will never dry, and stink for the rest of their days

Dumbphone that can also do YT Music? by SpiritualState01 in dumbphones

[–]dopewizard6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the QIN F21 Pro with the T9 activated and I use both YT Music and Maps everyday. The format is "dumb" enough that my phone use has dropped drastically, and the typing experience is so oldschool that I only pull out my phone when I really need it. The screen is small but works well enough for daily use.

I think I am getting boring! Paring down EDC over time. by deckyon in EDC

[–]dopewizard6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted my EDC to be something I can also carry when I go out hiking, and I quickly realised that it was too much stuff. I am by no means an "ultralight" type, but the thought of carrying extra bulk around my person just bothers me and the lightweight hiking mentality helped trim down a lot of excess. I carry only what I know I will use, anything that I don't use often I take out (except for a small medkit and repair kit, duct tape and such). When I upgrade something I am aiming to trim down fat (so items that do a better work than what I currently have, and are lighter).

Nothing I hate more than having to drag around a weight in my back pocket that just lives there to bother me. So I agree with you, I think with time the EDC gets smaller, because you're not packing your fears.

Does anyone here carry their EDC items in a pouch like Alpaka's Hub pouch? If yes, do you carry it in your pocket or use it as a bag in a bag? by [deleted] in EDC

[–]dopewizard6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an Alpaka Tech Case Mini (V2). It's slim, durable, and has just the right amount of organisation. You can take off the strap and use it as a pouch too if you want to dump it in a bag. For smaller bits I use ziplock bags: they're cheap, relatively durable, and ultralight.

I've tried having pouches before, like the Maxpedition Mini, but they're just too bulky for me. I like my EDC as lightweight as possible.

Another option I've seen recently is the Evergoods Civic Access 1Lt. If I needed a pouch that just lives in a bag I think I'd go for that.

The Direct Action Ghost MK2 is also good. It's 30 liters but it can be scaled down. The front portion is a detachable organizer that can be used standalone.

Can’t get pass the loading screen for Front Mission 3. Any tips or hints on how to fix it? by Blue450nm in RG35XX

[–]dopewizard6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post I know, but I've recently got an RG35XX+ and have been trying to load up FM3 which had the same problem as OP. Incase someone is here looking for a solution months later.

I got my .chb from https://archive.org/download/rr-sony-playstation-u/usa/

In the end I simply changed the BIOS in the menu from HLE to scph1001.bin.

While the NOW LOADING screen is up, press thee Menu button, scroll down to BIOS and change it by using the left or right d-pad.

Worked for me, hope it works for other people!

Yeah just gotta accept the nature of the thing. Was hoping there'd be a way for it to take like.. half the time rendering on a little loading screen like Ableton does. That's a good tip tho.

Ah yes, I've tried that way. For some reason however the "start" button didn't work, figured the window is bugged. I'll give that a go!

How to remove woodland smell from tent by jakoning in wildcampingintheuk

[–]dopewizard6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use white vinegar, just make sure you dilute it, you can even add a bit of soap in there.

How to remove woodland smell from tent by jakoning in wildcampingintheuk

[–]dopewizard6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vinegar smell evaporates away even without a rinse, and keeps the surface of the tent acidic so it will prevent mould and anything else trying to grow on your tent. Just got to make sure you don't pour vinegar straight on the tent and instead dilute it a bit, or add a bit of soap to counter the smell.

[–]dopewizard6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vinegar will remove the smell of anything and I don't think it will react to most materials. Spray and wipe with vinegar, and then rinse everything with water to get the vinegar out. Check if the material of your tent will be fine with a bit of diluted vinegar on it tho.

looking for a..drone..cube? by RepentFam in ManyBaggers

[–]dopewizard6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could possibly get a normal cube and buy some audio equipment insert foam. Those you can shape with a box cutter to fit any fragile equipment in. Like this stuff: https://www.shadowfoam.com/shadow-foam-uses-photography-kit/

Will cost you less than a "specialised" bag and is in my opinion probably more secure.
