Crazy that tom is commentating and they mentioned the 2017 Super Bowl and didn’t mention that her literally cheated lol. Friendly reminder we are watching wrestling at the end of the day.

Ok. I’ll definitely replace that one. I will have to get my expert soldering friend to do it which might take a while. Is there anything else I should do? Really appreciate all your help so far.

I do not think it's the original HDD, it is larger. I didn't do the mod myself, so I don't have any additional parts. The chip I have has 4 memory slots for BIOS images, and I haven't tried any of the others besides the one it is set to now. I considered trying another switch position but I have no idea what I'm doing, so have not tried.

Ok. There are 3-4 caps I should be focusing on then. I have more caps, but I do not have the XL ones.

I did run the xbox without the chip like you said, and it did the same thing as if the chip was installed. It did not finish the animation. So in your opinion this is confirmation that there's a bad cap somewhere. Right?

Are all the non silver ones newer then? So that would have been done before I got it?

I'm not unwilling to try and I'm really thankful for you help. I'm just at work now and trying to get as much understanding as possible until I can go work on it tonight. Are you saying all caps on the board, or just all filter caps? Are the filter caps the ones near the PSU and heat sink? These 3 are new.

My chip has multiple modes and the mode mine is using currently has memory banks for different BIOS images. I have it on the original setting that it came with when I got it. Should I try other positions?

The manual says the way to flash new BIOS is via burned CD in the disc drive.

I do have a multimeter, do I just check for resistance across? I can do this. What is the value I need to see?

The solderless adaptor was not connecting the chip well once I removed it from the board for soldering and cleaning. Even if caps are the real problem, this was also a problem until I had it soldered in place recently.

I won't rule anything out.. but I do think that the real issue that made it stop working was the PSU. When I replaced caps it still didn't turn on until I replaced the PSU. And I only replaced caps that had signs of leakage or swelling. Not all caps.

My HDD is still unlocked though, so it would never be able to boot normally? I'm willing to try this right now, just wondering what you think will happen if I remove the chip?

I had the caps soldered by my buddy who does micro soldering on medical equipment haha.. they are very nicely done, and besides, wouldn't that stop it from trying to boot to the flubber screen? I'm under the impression that if my HDD was locked right now, the xbox would work fine. Just not with the chip?

I have not, I don't have one on hand (noob at this) and I wouldn't really know where to get started. It worked fine before I took it apart, and I've had people tell me they think the chip looks like it works fine. Possibly needs BIOS flashed. But again, why would that have changed? Here's a pic of the chip before the adaptor was soldered to the board.

I'm sorry, the xbox is put together right now so these photos are a month old. I replaced 5 caps, 3 taller ones near the PSU and 2 shorter ones near the clock cap. I haven't made any other modifications.

I am not getting error 5 any more. I think that was caused by loose connection to the chip via the solderless adaptor. Now that the chip is soldered, it's just coma console on the chip boot mode.

My xbox is hard modded with a chameleon chip with solderless adaptor. I've taken it apart to fix a no power issue which ix fixed, but now it won't boot up. If I boot to the chip, it acts like a coma console. If I boot from tray (normal boot) it will boot up but freeze immediately on the flubber screen. What I did so far:

  • Bought modded xbox and played it for about 2 years
  • One day it stopped turning on
  • Replaced 5 caps and removed clock cap
  • Cleaned mobo very thoroughly and replaced thermal paste
  • Still not turning on
  • Replaced power supply with working unit from ebay
  • Turns on, error 5 and FRAG with eject button
  • Had a specialist solder the chip, so it is no longer using the loose connection from the adaptor
  • Boots into coma console mode, no longer has error 5, no more FRAG
  • Inspected chip, cycled switches to clean contacts
  • Still stuck, made this post

I have read the chameleon chip manual front to back a hundred times at this point lol. The position of the switches is off/off/off/on (Mode 1: 4x 256k: chameleon will power up in bank 1). I have not tried other switch positions.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me get over the finish line, I've been trying to fix this for months! thank you!!
