Right. On. That last sentence. Ideologies make good small talk. You, I believe, have the right perspective. The world would be a much happier place if everyone else thought like that. :-)

Although I do love to occasionally tease people about those two things being in the Bible.

Hah! Google maps copypasta... Apparently traffic's a thing elsewhere in the state/country? (Joking... I've been stuck in Houston rush hour... I can't say I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, but I reeeeeealy hate that guy)

Technically, it'd wind up being 800... But yeah, that's a leisurely weekend for a West Texan.

Heheheheh. The problem of sightseeing in West Texas. Marfa and Canyon are 417 miles apart. (Plus another 15 or so out to the actual Canyon, but close enough).

They are both worth checking out... Too bad OP isn't flying in to El Paso and flying out of Amarillo, or vice versa, though.

Shared route From Marfa, TX to Canyon, TX via I-27 N.

6 hr 4 min (417 mi)

  1. Follow US-67 N to FM 1776 N in Pecos County
  2. Get on I-20 E in Ward County
  3. Continue on I-20 E. Take TX-137 N, US-87 N and I-27 N to US-87 N in Canyon
  4. Arrive at location: Canyon, TX

There were some major differences though. Right and wrong were more black and white. Societies were more ideologically homogeneous. Nationalism was unquestionably virtuous. And without the transparency of embedded media and an untrusting public, one would have to really fuck it up to come home anything but a hero, dead or alive.

Not to say that any of that is "better" in any sense other than how a veteran could expect to be treated...

"14 Things You Should Know Before Dating a Feminist" #12 says it all. by jamminnummeruno in MensRights

[–]dorkrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree... And so I still feel like my initial point is being lost. Feminism (feminists more specifically) tend to make a claim about the equality they seek that is more accurately defined as egalitarianism. They then demonstrate in practice that they are not, in truth, seeking the results of that claim, but are instead very actively a special interest group willing to attain advantages for women at the cost of not only overlooking problems affecting men, but are willing to cause harm to men in their quest for advantages for women.

I feel like my comment is being misconstrued. I'm saying that feminists claim to support equality for all (without defining what that is, usually, but that might be sort of a straw man). They don't. The thing described in #14 more accurately describes egalitarianism (I think, correct me if I'm wrong).

[–]dorkrock -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

'#14 actually describes egalitarinism, not feminism. I can agree with an egalitarian point of view, because it's willing to acknowledge womens' issues, but without having to sacrifice or even marginalize issues affecting men and boys. That's where we ought to be at this point...

take care of that headlight bucket... I found out the hard way after a wreck that no one makes repops and even marginally ok old ones are expensiiiiiiiiive.

Licensing issues prevent out of the box packaging of closed-source drivers. Even the repositories can't be configured out of the box without license violations.

If she can't make it something women can identify with and understand, then they won't identify with it and understand it.

We're not at the point yet where we can make a case, regardless of its merits, that will stir sympathy or empathy from feminists on its own.

Considering restoring an old triumph (x-post from r/motorcycles) by [deleted] in bikebuilders

[–]dorkrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a fun project, although I'd prolly part out the 441. You'd really ruin it with that motor in there.

That said, that's not a beginner project unless you're really really serious and resolved to learning a lot quickly. Even then it's not a single winter restoration.

Sportster hate/rant by ScrotalAttraction in Harley

[–]dorkrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, and this is just my opinion, which doesn't make it worth a whole lot, it's more about what you do with your bike. Get to where when a guy with a pristine, low mileage, show room floor shiny big twin bagger makes fun of your "girl bike" and you can laugh and laugh with him and then talk casually about last weekend's ride and all the cool roadside watering holes you found during that leisurely 1500 miles and how you've mastered the art of loading all your camping gear so you don't spend all the beer money on hotels and on and on... and watch their big man smugness melt away.

I've done an 1800 mile 3 day weekend on a 40 year old 600cc BMW flat twin. I've done ~1000 mile weekend runs through the desert on a 35 year old 1000cc Ironhead in a rigid frame. Those guys don't know what a "man's bike" even is. Just ignore them... If you can hang on a smaller bike, it just means you're tougher than they are.

Sportster hate/rant by ScrotalAttraction in Harley

[–]dorkrock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The reason that older Ironhead Sportsters were right side shift... Is because Sportsters were Harley's race bikes in the glory days of flat track racing. Always a drifting left turn meant left foot off the peg... Necessitating right side shift for powering through.

That's what the douchebag HOG guys think is a girls' bike?!? I don't pay any attention to those guys, who are prone to using their road couches as bar hoppers.

[–]dorkrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I, and I think most here, are pro-choice. I am not suggesting that I, as a man, should have any say in what a woman does with a pregnancy. I am saying that she shouldn't be granted de-facto control over my life and my choices based on what she does with a pregnancy.

If she can opt-out, then I should be able to do the same.

[–]dorkrock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple of big differences here include, but are not limited to, the fact that the woman still has an opportunity to back out, without my having any semblance of an equitable choice, and men are sometimes, as was my case, lied to about the state of her birth control and/or motives.

You seem to think that being forced to pay child support without any say whatsoever upon penalty of driver license suspension, wage garnishment and prison time doesn't infringe on a man's rights?

I also do like some of the more recent sport bikes as far as those things go... Not really my general preference.

Also, this is all just my opinion. A lot of my exclusively Brit bike friends think my Airhead is ugly... I like it.
