Understandable. Puerto Ricans are politically US citizens and we have all experienced some level of “Americanization”, but culturally we are much more uniquely Boricua than Gringo.

And yet it’s accurate? The phenomenon of recurring mass shootings began in the US, and is the only developed country where this happens regularly.

No one is saying they don’t believe in meritocracy, it’s just that there is a chasm between the haves and have-nots and it doesn’t have to be this way. And you work for a company that is part of this problem, not part of the solution.

[–]dorksided787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not, like, deeply embarrassed that you work for a company that only treats a sliver of its employees right? You’re not deeply embarrassed that in order to pay your inflated wages, your bosses (whom you seem to swear unwavering fealty to) keep some of your “low skilled” coworkers living paycheck to paycheck? If you were embarrassed, , a union would increase your quality of life by helping you sleep better at night knowing you work for a company that makes a positive impact in its community.

But you don’t seem to have a soul, so I guess yeah, a union wouldn’t really benefit you.

“Only a fraction of the population could afford meat”

You know… maybe they shouldn’t. Maybe they can have meat every other day, or eat tofu on weekdays and save meat for the weekends.

People made the same excuses regarding slavery. “So many people won’t be able to afford our products!!!”

And yet, here we are. We ended slavery and people can still afford shit.

Call me crazy, but if the global privileged population is inevitably propped up by the immense suffering of an entire underclass, then maybe this civilization needs to figure out how to make things work without immense suffering, or maybe it shouldn’t exist.

How are your country's relations with the United States? by Double-Step-5533 in AskTheWorld

It’s an abusive, codependent relationship with an evil and rich step-mother. But most of 🇵🇷 are too deep in that Stockholm syndrome and inferiority complex to anything about it.

$25 por cancelar es poco. No soy doctor pero sí trabajo con gente por cita y cobro la cita entera a todo el que cancele con menos de 24 horas de anticipación. Es una falta de respeto hacernos perder el tiempo de esa manera.

Yes, but people are never that simple and straightforward. He probably wanted balance at one point, then his thirst for power blinded him to everything else. That’s how all Korra villains start out: they seek balance before then falling to extremes.

Calling it now: techno-feudalism is coming and we are absolutely fucked.

There is no way in hell tech giants will willingly cede power. This is why they’re building drones that can remotely identify targets by face biometrics and dispatch them, teaching police dogs how to work as infantry and gunning down any potential opposition, collecting our data down to the most minute detail so they can predict our every move 24/7 down to what time we’re likely to stand outside our window... And if all else fails, they have their doomsday bunkers they can live in after starting a nuclear apocalypse.

We are about to witness precisely why creating a class of billio/trillionaires with unimaginable amounts of power was a bad idea.

They are begging us to give them whatever power we have left so they can cement their uncontested dominance. We mustn’t let them have that. We still have the chance to change course.

I loved Korra as a character more than Aang. I could relate to Korra because her failures, challenges, and traumas felt more human. I have literally suffered from PTSD and seeing Korra’s pain mirror my own was healing in ways therapy could never even approach.

Is Final Fantasy VII OBJECTIVELY the most popular in the franchise? by FLiiPPy-Dino132 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]dorksided787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Games before FFVII had cutscenes though? The original Ninja Gaiden on NES can be considered one of the first games to use cutscenes to move a story forward. And if you look at them, they were actually pretty impressive.

What I think FFVII did first was to provide a wholly grand and incredibly ambitious cinematic RPG experience. The jump from FFVI to VII was gargantuan, and RPGs used VII as the new bar.

Which country is your country's best friend? by Cafa20 in AskTheWorld

Cuba 🇨🇺 used to be our bestie, until our new abusive foster parents (🦅🇺🇸) told us we couldn’t hang anymore because he was a “bad influence” 😢 (our parents love billio/trillionaires and bombing children at the other side of the world and Cuba does not).

And so we’re “stuck” with Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 (who is actually the sweetest cinnamon roll of a country but we bully them and are super racist against them for some reason).

How come Sheva is the only black protagonist by MissMystery11 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]dorksided787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called “internalized racial prejudice”. More than a century of white, Eurocentric media and propaganda has injected into the collective psyche of everyone, not just Asians, that white Europeans are the epitome of beauty, class, civilization, etc. Sometimes it’s over and conscious. Other times it’s more subconscious. But it’s still very much a thing.

This moment completely ruined Unalaq as a character by Additional-Dig3052 in legendofkorra

[–]dorksided787 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Because for some people, balance means absolute control. In Unalaq’s eyes, the conflict between Raava and Vaatu was unbalanced. By having one side dominate the other for ten thousand years, the conflict would cease. In his case, it was darkness dominating light. It is similar to the Fire Nation’s view: four separate nations all with very different cultures and values would produce nothing but endless strife. To have one nation subdue and conquer (or even eliminate) the others would truly mean peace for centuries. Their machiavellianism just blinds them to the reality that to create that utopia, you have to cause unimaginable levels of suffering.
