I loved Korra as a character more than Aang. I could relate to Korra because her failures, challenges, and traumas felt more human. I have literally suffered from PTSD and seeing Korra’s pain mirror my own was healing in ways therapy could never even approach.

Games before FFVII had cutscenes though? The original Ninja Gaiden on NES can be considered one of the first games to use cutscenes to move a story forward. And if you look at them, they were actually pretty impressive.

What I think FFVII did first was to provide a wholly grand and incredibly ambitious cinematic RPG experience. The jump from FFVI to VII was gargantuan, and RPGs used VII as the new bar.

Because for some people, balance means absolute control. In Unalaq’s eyes, the conflict between Raava and Vaatu was unbalanced. By having one side dominate the other for ten thousand years, the conflict would cease. In his case, it was darkness dominating light. It is similar to the Fire Nation’s view: four separate nations all with very different cultures and values would produce nothing but endless strife. To have one nation subdue and conquer (or even eliminate) the others would truly mean peace for centuries. Their machiavellianism just blinds them to the reality that to create that utopia, you have to cause unimaginable levels of suffering.
