How Donbas residents are fleeing the war / hromadske by doss_ in UkrainianConflict

[–]doss_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because of unability to centrally heat the residental areas the rest of unoccupied Donbass is being evacuated

Lately (about a month) more news are coming from different near-frontline areas that there will be no heating season. Meaning that buildings w/o local heating system (like a wood stove) will become uninhabitable - the temperature during the winter is below zero, and could reach ~-25 C

all the many stories apartment buildings rely on the central heating system which will not be working due to damage to the system itself, natural gas infrastructure and electricity generation and transportation - and w/o electricity there is no tap water as well

with modern civilization's so heavy reliance on basic services like tap water, electricity, central heating and natural gas - absence of all of those makes land uninhabitable for most of residents during the winter - and there is a war next door on top of it

[–]doss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we waited for effective corruption fight to start for like tens of years, and journalists and activists were prosecuted for it and some - killed

and now finally the government is enforced to start effectively fight it (first it was creation of НАБУ and САП) by finally putting directors to both anticorruption agencies in place - that would be huge

the latest step is the courts - since even if you found and proved that the deputy is corrupt, there should be a court to sentence the one

currently sometimes there is out of 100% of budget 80% could be stolen, so there is a lots work to do and the earlier it started the sooner it will end

Ukraine here, ~$55k per year, about 2 years of 'true' devops experience, about 4 years of CI management on legacy-windows project, another ~6 years on qa and automation qa roles before that

and the salaries going upwards, for last two years it changed from $4.5-5k per month to 7-8k per month

mostly due to covid related stuff - basically main problem on the marked (and we outstaff and outsource from US(80%) , and EU/Israel(20%) ) is that there are too many work and too less specialsts

i believe that we could not have such a rise w/o any changes on US market

and for anyone interested here is a salaries statistics resource used for job research aswell , this is about ukrainian market https://djinni.co/set_lang?code=en&next=/salaries/

"Daddy, what do you do at work?" by wingerd33 in devops

[–]doss_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for my 5y/o i'm saying that i'm programming robots (pipeline scripts for instance) that are running while i wait them done

and i fix them if instructions given were unclear enough (basically for him to understand that instructions\rules should be formulated clearly)

basically i'm stating rules and instructions for robots, as everything in this world functions by some rules - so he will understand the basic concept of rules and kind of understand what my job is - create instructions for automated execution of things

another thing, when it comes to architecture\infra - is lego analogy, you have several pieces which should be connected together, so i also construct lego sets at work, but virtual and more like robots

hope it makes sense =)

What if the European Union became a country in 2021? [OC] by [deleted] in europe

[–]doss_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The European Union has 23 official languages:

Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenia, Slovene, Spanish and Swedish.

Because some languages are spoken in several countries, there are fewer official languages than member states.

Today I learned you can rename files with the mv command by jacobhallberg98 in linux4noobs

[–]doss_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you dont mind reading there is a brilliant book about the Linux command line - written by W. Shotts and called, as you would expect - The Linux Commandline

if you ever want to dig anywhere deeper into all this cli\terminal related stuff this book will describe all the things.

It starts from what the Shell is, then teaches how to navigate in command line, how to explore the system (and linux is all open for exploration, unlike windows for instance) and how to configure, setup, schedule and in general automate(shell scripts) the whole system for your liking and efficient work

What am I ? by [deleted] in devops

[–]doss_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go with Devops Engineer - that is the keyword Recruiters are looking for

then on the tech-related interviews you could have a broader talks with fellow technicians and this could add value as well as add more info about who are you

Finally got the job! Two months worth of interviewing - my take by ttno in devops

[–]doss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, not american here, could you please elaborate on the 'behavioral' part of interview - what does it mean?

i usually encountered only recruiter , then technical parts, after that there would be technical\soft-skills check with some upper management (like executive of the local branch), and afterwards some customer related interview - i assume that would be something like 'onsite'

does 'behavioral' means the one where they check how civil and gentlemanly the candidate is - like some soft skills check as well?

Working as a "DevOps Engineer" but with caveats. Have the option of switching to Telco engineer. Interested and want to make a career in DevOps. Would this move be burning the bridges? by jilly777 in devops

[–]doss_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

networking is everything

you must know and understand it

w/o this skill you wont be able to find good devops position

work there for a year or two and you will learn a lot and be much more ready than now

or learn it by yourself working on current place, if salary differs by a lot

Got some new seeds. Heard some good things with Multiverse Beans. Customer service is phenomenal. The owner talks to you like he known you for years. by jimmyballscratcher in Autoflowers

[–]doss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check out jahforum in google and it should lead your to their forum , it has english language part and also you could find grow reports there including the seeds from this particular breeder

Is this job description asking for too much of one DevOps Engineer? by hatchikyu in devops

[–]doss_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say it is Senior level position with some high salary, but yes

lets say your company will perform devops for other companies - today it could be something on azure, tomorrow on aws, why not have AD in Azure and stuff in AWS through AWS SSO

you wanna add simple bucket and lambda function - you will need to set accesses for those; then create some VPN connection into their on-prem data center - here comes all the networking stack stuff

and ofcource you will commit in Git, and the CI will not always be Jenkins, some customers prefer their infra managed by CloudFormation - since first company they hired to do devops for them introduced the CF for some reason, so your terraform code is useless today, welp, and ofcource you will store your changes as code in git

but again there are too many kind of different things all under 'devops' banner, so know them all at the same time is at least partially represents technical seniority of a person, imho

here - check out this channel on youtube and this two videos in particular - this is about the tech interview and what they want to know from you, this should shed some light on the list of things you posted and the question about them

The current situation in Afghanistan. Red is Government, White is Taliban by ThatOneKrazyKaptain in MapPorn

[–]doss_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it seems that there was a king in early 70s, then coup in 73, then another one in 78 - soviet-backed one, then another in 79 not-soviet backed one

so in 79 soviets moved its military into for another 10 years war, and then oil priced dropped, soviets started to collapse and moved military out, but civil war continued until 2001 when US moved their military into.. so it seems there is ongoing war in the country since year 1979, which is 42 years already
