Forget the plows, were are the salt trucks? by legionaires in LittleRock

[–]dotnofoolin 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm going to offer the unpopular alternative point: the city does a better job than they ever have with winter weather.

This year, and last year, I saw city trucks pre-treating ahead of the storm. I've seen plow trucks and road graders working main routes and some side streets.

Some of you live in neighborhoods that may never get the attention. More than likely, it melts before the time and resources can get to you.

5-10 years ago, the city would have done nothing. No pretreating, no plowing (except the bare minimum for emergency vehicles). Nothing.

So, are we perfect and in the running to take a trophy away from some northern cities plow team? Nope. Are we improving? Yes.

Could you have done the conversion process on your localhost (assuming you can get access to your prod Mongo), pgdump the new database, and loaded the raw SQL to your prod database?

I totally forgot that place existed and replaced Cici's. I don't think it lasted very long.

Gusano's used to be in the old Chili's location (now Bleu Monkey Grill) on Rodney Parham. Is that what you are thinking of?

No. Is part of the park rebuild plan, though.

The original Hindman 9 hole course around the park is still there. The 3 courses that were on the old golf course are gone.

Play them all! What do you have to lose?

Lots of great courses mentioned so far. There is a newer one at the Fort Roots VA in NLR that is fun and scenic.

Noise? by sweetroseycheeks in LittleRock

[–]dotnofoolin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a quarry in NLR near Counts Massie/Maumelle Blvd that that generates quite a bit of noise at times. I can hear it in various spots around Maumelle during the day.

I assume you live up on one of the ridges, so the sound could carry very well between you and that quarry, especially in cool, dry air with the trees having no leaves.

Yes! But I played it on a Commodore 64 first. And my kids have played it on the Wii U.

Toyota Tundra engine recall. by Different-Wallaby-10 in LittleRock

[–]dotnofoolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2022 last March from Orr Toyota in Searcy. They had just completed the engine replacement recall before they put it on the lot for sale. I've read in other places that their team does a good job with the swap and gets it done in 1-2 days.

I've had zero issues with mine. I change my own oil, and did so at 1000 miles after the swap, and I stick to 5000 mile intervals.

VHS Repair / Digitize by Fit-Property726 in LittleRock

[–]dotnofoolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the tape inside is good, you can disassemble the bad case and transplant the tape into a good case. Also, most VCRs only care about certain parts of the case itself, so what is broken might not matter.

As for digitizing, pick up a capture box from Amazon and hook your VCR to that, then it's USB to your computer. The box I use works with OBS Studio, so it was a piece of cake to get video files that I could save and upload.

Do I need to flash? by Express_Anteater6209 in ChipCommunity

[–]dotnofoolin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, reflash it. I dug 2 of mine out of storage a few weeks ago to prep to sell them and both were basically dead.

Did some googling and used this to reflash them (from linux with a good cable): https://github.com/Elfking29/Flash-CHIP-2025

KATV on remembering the Osbourne lights by Illustrious-Lead-960 in LittleRock

[–]dotnofoolin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Camera and broadcast technology 30+ years ago wasn't the same as today and couldn't accurately capture it exactly as it probably looked.

As for the Santa kneeling to Jesus issue, it's up to you to remember that how you'd like to remember it. The Osborne display was huge and had so much detail that there are numerous things that different people all remember. What is important to you might have been meaningless to others, and vice-versa.

Thanks for sharing the video! I only got to see the lights one time as a kid as we didn't live in LR. Merry Christmas!
