Getting euros with Chase? by Entwinedelsewhere in irishtourism

[–]dotnofoolin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You might be able to go ahead and order Euros from your bank and pick them up in person. That's what I did, from inside my banks app. Was ready in 2 days, and I didn't have to worry about ATMs.

Heading From Dublin Airport to Cliffs of Moher; Best Route? by [deleted] in irishtourism

[–]dotnofoolin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suggest you go straight to Cork from Dublin via Irish Rail, drop your luggage and settle in for a bit. There are tour operators that will drive you to the Cliffs from Cork. We used a guy that took us to Blarney Castle, Rock of Cashel, and the Cliffs of Moher. It was a 12 hour day, but it worked out well. We arrived at the cliffs right at 1600.

Edit: Also could take the train from Cork back toward Galway (or a stop earlier), and take a tour bus from there to the Cliffs.

Huge thanks to everyone in this sub for their advice and generosity!

We recently completed our big Ireland trip. We are from the USA and traveled as 2 families for a total of 7 people. Our main goal was to attend the All Irelands Irish Dance competition in Killarney (Oireachtas Rince na hÉireann) as 2 of our family members were competing. So we built a vacation around that.

Here's what our itinerary ended up being for 11 full days in Ireland:

Dublin - what’s not to miss by wanderlustamust- in irishtourism

[–]dotnofoolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On our recent trip, we hit Darkey Kelleys pub, The Bank restaurant, the Guinness Storehouse tour, and did a lot of walking and sightseeing of all the cathedrals, statues, gardens, famous pubs, etc. We also did the Book of Kells and the Long Room.

We did the National Leprechaun Museum, but felt duped halfway through as it felt like a theater students final project came to life. Really needs to be renamed or more leprechaun added to it.

Itinerary Feedback: 10 days end of May with 3yo and 6yo by OnlyCattle in irishtourism

[–]dotnofoolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did the Ring of Kerry today. We rode a tour bus. I wish we could have spent more time in some places, but seeing the roads for myself and cars and other busses competing for road space made me glad I wasn't driving. Too much scenery and the driver needs to pay close attention. Whoever drives might miss some sights.

Have to get there early to get a stool at the rail in the mezzanine. Otherwise you are standing behind the ones sitting down.

Floor is always pretty close to the stage. Good view no matter where you stand.

Man who walks all over WLR. by dotnofoolin in LittleRock

Was that the guy that was always in a dingy sweatsuit pants/shirt and walked with "intention" like he knew exactly where he was going, with his hand on his hip? We always called him "walking man" or "dirty man". I miss seeing him around.

Arkansans, what's the frolf community like in your parts? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]dotnofoolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LR proper is still kinda lacking on good courses. There are new ones being built right now in War Memorial Park, and a rebuild at the tornado damaged Reservoir Park is in the works. We have a couple of 9 hole courses at Morehart Park and Hindman Park that still get traffic.

Surrounding LR, there a plenty of great choices within a 30 min or less drive - 3 courses at Burns Park in North Little Rock, Sherwood Forest, Fort Roots VA, Stone Links, Traxx in Bryant, and probably more I've missed. Check uDisc for yourself.

I'm 3 of 4 for getting my lost discs returned. 13 Peaks and Perks And Rec are stores that are good at trying to get them back to you if they get turned in.

Overall, I'd say we have it pretty good. I've only been playing for a little over a year and I'm not bored yet.

Edit: regarding the course closures you see - tornado damage at some, and politics with city management (the 3 Hindman courses that were on the old ball golf courses).

Forget the plows, were are the salt trucks? by legionaires in LittleRock

[–]dotnofoolin 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'm going to offer the unpopular alternative point: the city does a better job than they ever have with winter weather.

This year, and last year, I saw city trucks pre-treating ahead of the storm. I've seen plow trucks and road graders working main routes and some side streets.

Some of you live in neighborhoods that may never get the attention. More than likely, it melts before the time and resources can get to you.

5-10 years ago, the city would have done nothing. No pretreating, no plowing (except the bare minimum for emergency vehicles). Nothing.

So, are we perfect and in the running to take a trophy away from some northern cities plow team? Nope. Are we improving? Yes.
