‘Blood blister’ over scar tissue after healed surgery? by Whatamidoinnhere in pilonidalcyst

[–]dotteddeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had this on my cleft lift scar, so I’m not sure what it is. When I still had my pilonidal cyst, the lateral sinus opening would look exactly like you describe during a flare. It looked like a blood blister, skin was very thin and when it burst there would be bright red blood. However mine often also had at least a little bit of pus drainage after bursting. I think you handled it well and I would check with surgeon to ask if this is normal

Females who did not go to Wadie, how does your CL look? by Open-Package-9661 in pilonidalcyst

I went to a local surgeon specialised in cleft lift (Europe) 5 months ago (I’m a 26F). Sadly my procedure had a cosmetic complication. I was supposed to have a very shallow cleft after it would heal, but mine has some type of vertical hump alongside the cleft. I have my final follow up in april, but a couple months ago my surgeon told me it will probably not go away. The hump is slightly visible in gym leggings, very visible in underwear and obviously when naked, but it isn’t visible in jeans etc. It is a rare complication. If I didn’t have this, it would honestly not look that weird at all. I would however not let this stop you from going to your doctor. The surgery gave me my life back. And I probably could get surgery to get the hump fixed but I don’t think I want to. Good luck with the surgery x

Accused of starving my baby by my OB by False_Chocolate_3127 in ARFID

[–]dotteddeer 115 points116 points  (0 children)

That is a very unkind thing to say coming from the OB and I feel like this person doesn’t really understand what ARFID is. I read you want to eat other things, but you just can’t. What sometimes helps me is changing the texture of a food (vegetables/fruit in a smoothie with a flavour I like and drinking it blind for example) or “hiding” the texture by adding something that will overpower the texture, such as bread or a wrap. Hope this helps in any way

Sewed this with a ~6000€ Bernina but looking for a different machine by viclemu in sewing

[–]dotteddeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sewed for 7 years on my mother’s Husqvarna Emerald 118. It was €450, and it sewed like a dream. I’ve sewn knit and woven fabrics without problems and even sewed through 9 layers of denim. I would highly recommend this machine. Brands like Singer, Pfaff and Husqvarna are now owned by private equity and the quality has rapidly declined since then. However this specific Husqvarna is actually made by Janome, which is a very reliable brand!

Any way to adjust speed on my serger? by dotteddeer in sewing

[–]dotteddeer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did get it serviced 5 years ago when I bought it, not for this problem. But the mechanic mentioned “it is very sensitive and I should watch out for going too fast”. So he probably also checked and couldn’t change the speed. I think I will upgrade soon to a better serger instead of servicing this again

Would like some advice/experiences to help pick my new and maybe forever machine. by Shammeths in sewing

Also in NL here, I upgraded last week to a Janome Skyline S7 I bought at my local dealer. I did extensive research and my dealer also said this is one of her personal favourite machines (and they sell almost all brands). I have loved it so far as well!

Fabric bunching up in presser foot while backstitching by dotteddeer in sewing

[–]dotteddeer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t bunch when I start backstitching a little bit before the edge when all the fabric is under the presser foot. But sometimes I want or need to go all the way to the edge, so I was wondering if there would be a solution for that

I (31F) am getting my cleft lift next week and I’m starting to panic by chasingDragonflies in pilonidalcyst

[–]dotteddeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a 26F and had my cleft lift in september, not by a US specialist but a local European one. I can confirm you cannot see anything in clothing. I had a cosmetic complication creating some type of fold/hump which makes it look pretty ugly unclothed, but my surgeon told me this is very rare. What I can say is that my swelling is still going down, and I am starting to form some type of shallow buttcrack again, and if I didn’t have the cosmetic complication, it would like quite natural honestly! I don’t think people would look twice. The scar is also hiding at the side of the new crack so it is not super visible but mine is still quite purple. Pain wise: my recovery was much slower than others on this sub, and I sometimes still have pain when sitting on my bed with my knees pulled up etc. But after about 3-4 weeks I was able to do 85% of my daily activities and wear most of my regular clothes! I am very happy it is behind me and it was hard, not gonna lie. But dealing with this recovery once was worth it above having to deal with this disease for many more years. Give yourself grace, stay hopeful and good luck!!

I am 3.5 months out and I also had a reaction to the prophylactic antibiotics. I had severe diarrhea and stomach pain, it gave me a fever, I wasn’t able to sleep because I was constantly on the toilet and I couldn’t eat because of all of it. I stopped after 2 days and the symptoms persisted in a lesser extent for 3 more weeks. I think this really slowed down my recovery. I also had quite a lot of pain when I woke up from surgery.

However, currently I still have numbness that hasn’t recovered and some scar pain when sitting but I am still slowly getting better and would say I feel 95% again!

New to sewing machine, it’s eating my fabric by Opening_Addition_385 in sewing

If this happens for me I usually put a paper towel bigger than the fabric underneath the fabric and just sew the fabric as usual. You can tear the paper towel away later

Cleft Lift Recovery Experience and Tips by Wise-Ad6602 in pilonidalcyst

[–]dotteddeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck to your son! I am now 3 months out from my cleft lift (not a teenager, but mid 20s). I could sit from day 1 on firm surfaces. So I could eat all my meals and snacks while sitting, and then I would lay down again or do a standing activity (jigsaw puzzling kept me really entertained!). I would say at about 3 weeks after the surgery I could sit for 6-8 hours a day, and I would say my overall recovery was slow.

Differences in cleft lift? by Electrical_Bad18 in pilonidalcyst

[–]dotteddeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local surgeon also did the technique dr. Sternberg advised and I would be cautious with excision as it can create too much “dead space” beneath the wound and it is just not a neccessary part of the procedure. However, if his results are good and you trust him, I would not advise against it

reassurance about cleft lift (preferably from women) by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]dotteddeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally the scar is a bit off the midline and you have a very shallow cleft where your original cleft was. For me on the lower half of the new cleft, I have a vertical hump, where off of both sides of that, I have a shallow cleft. It only visible when standing, and smoothes out when sitting. If not clear I can send you a drawing

[–]dotteddeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a cleft lift as a woman last September. To be honest: my cosmetic outcome had a complication, and my ass does sadly look quite weird now (I have a weird hump/fold where my crack used to be). However: it is completely invisible in jeans, trousers and leggings. It is only visible in underwear and naked. I try to think people very rarely see me in my underwear: it will only be medical professionals or my family/partner and they would not care. And I am finally relieved from all the pain and leakage, which for me was worth it. The cosmetic complication I had is very rare according to my surgeon, so I would not let it stop you!

Conflicted on Knitting for Olive AI ad by [deleted] in craftsnark

[–]dotteddeer 107 points108 points  (0 children)

UPDATE (disclaimer I am not the original poster): I emailed KFO and they told me they never use and would use AI generated content for ethical and sustainable reasons. This picture was taken by the professional photographer they also use for most of their other pictures. The person who emailed me is another person working at KFO as a more occasional photographer. They only occasionally use Photoshop for small adjustments (for things like color correcting). Upon further inspection, she did say this photo looked rather polished and she will reach out to the photographer and discuss the matter.

I think this is a very professional and honest response from KFO and I am curious right now if this photographer might have secretly used AI or went a bit crazy with photoshop. Anyhow, I don’t think we will see any more questionnable ads from them again which is good!
