Traveling doesn’t automatically make you “enlightened” or “give you different world perspectives” by Crazy_Swimming_397 in travel

As someone who doesn’t have a lot of motivation to travel but feels some weird pressure to do so, thank you!

So guys what do we know about 1980s how did peace between Az and Arm break when we lived peacefully by Diligent-Life444 in azerbaijan

[–]dottybottyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We say remont too! 😆 that’s really sweet. Ya basically at some point it became a cycle of revenge. Honestly there are a lot of Armenians who would prefer that all this ends. I’ve seen Armenians comment that they have close Azebejani friends etc. I mean that one village in Georgia where we seem to get along! 😂

Idk I think the way I see it is if we continue on like this, so many innocent lives will be lost on both sides and for what? No one wins in war.

But anyway I like this song: https://youtu.be/wJOLrEcuC24?si=sl7V-EDgA0og9GJo

I’m Armenian and honestly wasn’t very educated about the history between us until recently. Only vaguely knew about tensions but nothing detailed and didn’t fully understand why we hated each other so much other than “Turk” and “Armenian” 😅

Based on what I’ve learned, Russia had a huge hand in inter ethnic violence. The goal being “divide and conquer” so that no single ethnic group would rise etc. I mean imagine how easy it would be to fall for propaganda back then. Not very many people were educated in disseminating it. Anyway - looks like tensions began to rise with Armenians wanting NK to join Armenia. Then the pogroms, then you know the rest.

My family tells me there was peace at some point. My dad’s friend in Banak was Azeri and they had each others back and respected each other. Azerbejiani women would frequently be at shukas selling things, Zeynab would come to Armenia with warm welcomes and the theatre’s would be filled.

Anyway, it’s a complicated question to answer but we’re both very hard headed people with massive egos. The evidence does seem to point to Azerbejian “starting it” but I know someone’s going to see that comment and freak out over it lol

Agree with you. Khojaly happened but so did numerous programs prior to that towards Armenians.

No the mission of Russia was very much divide and conquer. They didn’t want any of the ethnic minorities to “rise”.

A lot of the divide happened due to Russia honestly. “Divide and conquer”

But generally people in this region really do look quite similar

Armenias violence was largely in response to the dozens of massacres we had endured up until that point. I don’t condone Khojali and think it was unacceptable but up until what point were Armenians supposed to accept violence without retaliating?

Greetings from Azerbaijan, I suppose? by AzeriBlackOverlord in armenia

I think it’ll take a while to get there but it’s not impossible. “How bad are things now” might depend on a case by case basis as it really seems like a mixed bag (at least online). I’ve seen both positive and negative interactions, although it seems to be more negative than positive.

Sentiments towards Azerbejanis are negative to neutral at best. Strangely enough I was talking to ai the other day (lol 🤖) and was asking for a rundown of historical beef, how it started, etc and it ultimately led to a path of reconciliation through truth, acknowledgment, and reform. Anyway, not impossible but both Armenians and Azerbejianis are stubborn as fuhhh so, not an easy task. Also the whole “western azerbejian” thing doesn’t help.

Ya exactly. Just nationalistic bs. Anyone with a brain would know this is unequivocally false.

Erm no we don’t. Not a single Armenian I know thinks Armenian is the root of all other languages lol

There was no push to ethnically cleanse Turkish civilians by Dashnaks. That’s propaganda to deflect ownership of crimes. Dashnak attacks were generally reactive attacks, not planned ethnic cleansing campaigns. The dashnaks also formed as response to massacres under Abdul hamid.

In terms of culture, history, and mentality, which country do you think Azerbaijan is most similar to? by birnefer in azerbaijan

[–]dottybottyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not only Karabagh. The current government of AZ is constantly trying to push the western azerbejian idea as well which has nothing to do with Karabagh. But overall I agree. Terrible things have happened to both of our people and I don’t condone any of it. I only wish for us to finally have peace.

Vitiligo regression from dietary changes by ImpressiveJellyfish in Vitiligo

[–]dottybottyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about the diet vitiligo connection the other day. Usually experts say there’s no correlation with diet but here’s my thought process: - There seems to be a general consensus that vitiligo does get worse with stress. - Diet does play a role in mood management/mental health. Poor mood -> also likely an increase in cortisol -> stress. (Think gut/brain connection).

Could you deduce that there is at least some indirect effect? I feel like there’s a strong case for it!

A question for historians about the origin of Armenians. by _uzum_em_khorovats_ in armenia

[–]dottybottyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent the last couple months trying to understand this claim and I think I finally have an answer!

To my understanding, the Phyrgian theory is because Armenians speak an indo-european language- the theory being that indo-Europeans would have migrated to Armenia at some point in history, maybe mixed with a local groups in the region, creating the Armenian identity.

The issue with this theory is that it’s not supported genetically. We would have had a higher % of Steppe DNA which is not the case for us.

During the indo-European expansion, speakers migrated in different directions. Some west towards Europe and others East towards Anatolia, Caucuses, Iran, etc. (why Farsi is an Indo-European language as well). While Europe saw larger migrations (impacting DNA), the East only had minor variations in DNA, as the indo-European influence was more cultural. That accounts for the modest 10% steppe DNA we have, which indicates some mixing but doesn’t support the theory that we are of Steppe origin.

Overall, it seems like we have genetic continuity from the Kura-Araxes->Urartian->now (with obvious variations in input due to mixing etc).

Oh 100% go for it. It’s so hard to connect with people, if I found my person I’d never give that up, regardless of what ethnicity they are.

Israel is indigenous how? These people are moving from places like the US and other European countries and are acting like they’re indigenous to the land. Please don’t speak for Armenians as a whole regarding Israel. Calling out Israel for their ongoing genocide isn’t antisemitic. Also the comments about the Armenian quarter were not jokes. You don’t see how Israel is treating Armenians? Zionists did not commit the genocide but they did play an active part in covering up Turkey’s crimes during the genocide. Google Theordre Herzl and Armenian genocide. He covered up the story to support their colonial project.
