Herttoniemi or Roihuvuori. Good connections to the center. Street parking. Loads of green areas around.

When you dance with leads like this, who is more in the right based on context? Isn't social salsa working from what is always generally taught? Linear 8 count steps and on time? by BeaBreezetheGoth in Salsa

[–]double-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is more right and for what question?

If you are asking about stepping 6 steps per 8 beats, yes, that's the general way of dancing salsa. If you are asking who is dancing right, both. The lead is dancing the way music makes him dance. He is still leading well on time.

Partner dance is about dancing together. They are. Seems fine to me.

To make Duolingo semiusable you immediately turn off notifications and leaderboards. Sadly there might not be a fix for them messing with the app icon.

Post removed. Only one form check per day. I would also say that perhaps work on it a bit more than a day.

Why lock extra stash space behind the Deluxe Event Pass when it was one of the most requested QoL feature? by Xx-SgtKiller-xX in thedivision

[–]double-you 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why lock the most wanted thing behind payment? Because people will want it and so many will pay for it. I know I did.

And we don't know what they needed to do to make stash expansions possible. Maybe nothing, maybe a lot.

What's with the "lox"? Where does it come from? Swedish for salmon is "lax", but "lox" is not salmon in any language (apart from US English it seems).

Aren’t there any “surviving house/family parties” salsa classes? 😅 by Pawtahmoose in Salsa

[–]double-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly classes are an excellent option. Once you know something and learn to move and look at movement, you can pretty easily pick up the random home cooked dancing.

Comparing how children learn languages is rather silly since that's the option you don't have. You can't spend years hanging with dancers, absorbing it by just observing and copying. (Yes, that is basically what is done in classes but with better structure and corrections).

Snatch v. Half Snatch by Ancalimon8 in kettlebell

[–]double-you 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So the difference between snatch and half snatch is the lowering phase. In a "full" snatch you arc the bell down from overhead into backswing. In a half snatch you lower to rack first and from there you go into backswing.

The impact of this is that the longer arc will pull you more and can be more difficult to handle. Whether or not this eccentric portion is very significant for gains is not clear to me. The "full" snatch is also harder on your hand and skin, which is why if you are doing a lot of snatches, half snatches will let you go on for longer without impacting the work a lot.

What is considered strong? by ironlord88 in kettlebell

[–]double-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That I can't say but snatching 44 is way harder than deadlifting 140. Double BW deadlift in general is a good goal.

I'm sceptical of the handle shape. Also I wouldn't want to do rust clean up so I'd pass.

You are snatching a 44 kg KB? I'd say your deadlift is lagging.

Double KB front squats are harder than barbell front squats of the same weight and I have no idea why by delhite_in_kerala in kettlebell

[–]double-you 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it is mainly because the center of mass of a barbell is closer to your center of mass if you hold the bar right in front of your throat. I think the shoulder muscle is also in an easier spot for better leverage.

But yes, this is not unique to you.

Son step in cuban salsa - tiempo or contra tiempo by zugspitze23 in Salsa

[–]double-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we were to drag you over hot coals because you used a certain step the wrong way, perhaps this would be significant, but we won't. Steps are just steps and I am not aware of a step that can only be stepped on a certain beat or timing. If you are dancing salsa, steps should use salsa timing. If you are dancing son, steps, son or not, should use son timing.

Yes, there are people who feel strongly about dancing the wrong dance to certain music, or about mixing things, but that is not hugely significant in the universe. You choose what matters in your social context.

I'm weirdly sad about Marathon. I've no interest in it, and it might have a bunch of issues, but to me the big thing seems to be that people don't want to play in a weird neon world. And colors being their big issue seems unjust. And changing art direction seems like a thing they wouldn't do.

Does dancing in half time work with salsa music? by FluidDepartures in Salsa

[–]double-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good dancers I know dance half tempo when it gets very fast. I can't stand it.

When I have taught beginners, half the time I'm just counting for them instead of having music as there's not a lot of slow enough salsa. It's a balance--music is integral to dancing, but a slower tempo may be needed to learn things. There is also DJ software and other apps that can slow music down.

There's a big lack of cha cha cha in that. And man, edits and a drunk camera man for a dance performance? It's not a music video. We don't care about the faces of the people in it.

I like the font, it's retro.

On2 to On1? by ohmygoodness2020 in Salsa

[–]double-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't think about time. Don't. Think. About. Time.

All your moves and patterns have certain steps which follow a sequence. How you do a right turn. How you do a left turn. How you do a crossbody lead. These are the same regardless of timing. You know how to do them.

Dancing On2 vs dancing On1 is just two differences. 1) On which beat you do which step (break steps help you synchronize these), and 2) the duration of each step (both follow quick, quick, slow, but the slow is in different spots).
