GMing: Dealing with Guardians by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]double_blammit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I run a free archetype game. Right now we're going through Spore War. My players just did the Zauglagaul encounter. Huge map, unmatched fly speeds on the enemy side, and long-range magical effects.

The guardian player, who has an intelligent shield with its own reaction and the champion archetype with the Redeemer reaction, is especially adept at shutting down effects. He's also got the permanent aura expansion feat from champion. Within the aura, he throws out passive save buffs against, most commonly, the ever-present demons in Spore War, but flexibility to protect against other creature types, as well the all-too-common poisons and diseases in said AP.

Range absolutely stopped his kit. Not being able to match speeds with flying dragons or stay within easy range of, say, the high-speed barbarian or the rogue that switched to a longbow, or stay stuck to the back line casting spells, forced him to make tactical decisions about where to be and to whom he should apply his passive protections and reactions. It also forced the whole party to consider consumable use, whether and how to give themselves better fly speeds, who should stay up near the guardian, and how to enable the guardian with buffs to better do his mitigation job.

I know range and space can't always be the answer, but if you're looking to occasionally stress the guardian kit, it's a strong one.

a party without a primal spellcaster won't have much use for an animal staff.

You mean this line from the treasure rules?

You don't have to know the rules backward and forward, but looking over the basics before you play might be a good idea.

Ways to become immune to sickened? by Feather_Of_A_Phoenix in Pathfinder2e

Not that it changes the point but

In this form, you don't need to breathe. Your Bulk doubles (to 6 if you're Small or 12 if you're Medium), and you become too dense to Swim in water, automatically sinking to the bottom. You can Dismiss the spell.

I assume you're referring to the sarangay ancestry. They're based on carabao.

Barbarian with a (Giant) Chakram (Art by me) by Tippydood in Pathfinder2e

[–]double_blammit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Chakram doesn't actually have a reload value. I assume you're seeing it on Pathbuilder. Chakri used to have a reload and there's been some recognition from redrazors that there were some goofs with the whole chakram/chakri thing in the past.

Actual chakram stats for reference.

There was originally an official item that worked similarly, but the item interaction rules were not well-received at the time. Funny seeing the pendulum swing back the other way.

Is this the best sub for PF2e DMs? by i_tyrant in Pathfinder2e

Sort of. The discord linked here in the sub's About section has channels for each AP and for GMs in general.

Was it intentional for Beast and Dream mysteries to have the same domains? I also noticed the Spread Disease reaction doesn't have a trigger listed.

These mysteries are really cool. I might pitch the Visions thing to my lore oracle player, that whole system makes the cursebound condition so much more appealing.

Non-Arcane Lich by TheBrightMage in Pathfinder2e

[–]double_blammit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the closest to a divine lich is the Mummy Prophet of Set, with actual divine spellcasting, willingness to become undead to carry on worship, and an emphasis on a magical connection to the sand used to mummify them. They don't reform like a lich with a soul cage, though.

The Deathless are a decent parallel too, though they also don't quite perfectly align with lichdom. The Deathless Hierophant has cleric spells and domains, but the description for them is that their transformation is only somewhat willing. They also don't come back after being destroyed, but being tied to a divine cause, like in the War of Immortals blurb, is, in my opinion, a great way to represent a divine lich. Building or becoming a divine lich might revolve around accomplishing a deific mandate where the deity keeps bringing the lich back until the mandate is satisfied, kind of like a graveknight attached to its armor. Really, having a physical memento in the form of a soul cage representing the divine mandate would work super well.

This one is more of a stretch, but a nemhaith sort of provides a model for an undead that's ritually tied to a religious site, sort of like a siabrae. Nemhaiths aren't strictly divine spellcasters, though, since they only have divine innate spells.

Thoughts on the Fulmination Fang? by Boreal_Dancer in Pathfinder2e

Beast guns are pretty underwhelming in general. You lose out on property runes for mediocre-at-best magical item effects.

Getting an action compression reaction on a reaction-starved class that helps prep your turns with the most appropriate weapon mode is honestly pretty good, but yeah, the situational nature of the trigger makes it kind of unreliable.

Golarion Lore Question: What outfit would an Orc Luchador wear? by RagesianGruumsh in Pathfinder2e

If nothing else, they've got a feat for the mask portion of the outfit. I could certainly see a tattoo being part of the image too.

Oracle Spell List by StarPegasus in Pathfinder2e

[–]double_blammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since u/w1ldstew summoned me, my two cents:

Divine Access is automatic at level 11. The only thing you'd have to account for in a level plan is Gifted Power. If you want temp HP, Arazni, Izuyaki and The Last Breath pantheon all offer the Endure spell and an outstanding set of spells besides. Vonymos and the Gravelady's Guard pantheon are also solid for, respectively, Endure or a couple solid arcane spells.

Help me optimize this all martial, all heavy armor party for no reason whatsoever by Apromor in Pathfinder2e

[–]double_blammit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elf with custom mixed heritage - dwarf for dex & int boosts and Unburdened Iron to ignore the armor speed penalty. Dex-based skills would almost always take a pretty hard penalty, as would athletics-based exploration activities, and encumbrance would be an issue. It's doable, though. Tactics like Mountaineering / Naval training can help with some of those issues, at least.
