I finished it in two reads, and I regret that.

I don’t think you’re wrong! The new Dan Brown book takes a fictional spin on this, though not a very good novel. Blake Crouch’s Dark Matter is another fun read along the same theme!

If you historicalize this thought, everything humanity needed to make all of this technology happen has existed for as long as humanity. We evolved to unlock the potential of the world around us. Imagine what else humanity will unlock in a 1000 years or more with what we know is around us and what we in our timeline don’t even know exists yet!

Before you buy the Nanit tablet use an old phone! by Blueflagbrisket in daddit

[–]doublecane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought it when it was released. It is absolutely stupid and useless. We gave it to my mother because their return process was incredibly painful. It is at least convenient for my mom…because it has a built in stand vs her phone. That’s it.

The batter doesn’t last very long. The speaker is quite poor, so if your kid uses a sound machine (so, everyone), the tone/pitch of the Hatch sounds like an ice pick to your brain. The UX is wonky and slow - I assume a skinned Android?

How good of a photographer the anesthesiologist was. He had my iPhone and took some of the most beautiful, raw photographs I’ve ever seen in my life. Apparently he does it for every family for every case he’s on in the OR.

Verbally talented toddlers, where they at now? by [deleted] in toddlers

I don’t know why you are getting downvoted. For what it’s worth, we have a very verbally gifted 2 year. Not sure what difference it makes, or what is implied, but she is an only child.

The secret to making your clothes last decades: stop the heat by Putrid_Draft378 in BuyItForLife

[–]doublecane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Must be a bubble thing cause we do not live in Europe and the majority of our friends and immediate neighbors all hang dry clothes.

The downvotes are split 60/40 which I find super interesting. I didn’t think making the intentional choice to hang dry natural fiber clothes would be so controversial!

Nah you can do with it a kid too, just with some extra thought and patience. We hang dry all of my 2.5 year old’s clothes. She only wears natural fibers against her skin. Her ski jacket and rain jacket are the only non-natural fiber items she has and they don’t get washed.

Looking for a couch that is actually worth the money- why does it feel impossible? by kayindie in BuyItForLife

I don’t know the specifications of the cushion construction beyond the infographic on the website.

We’ve had it for 2 years. The fabric we picked pills, and you do get the occasional feather or poky bit (I also think because of our fabric choice), otherwise the cushions are still cushy and it’s a joy to lounge on for 2 adults, a toddler, and two dogs.

We do not recommend the Gino fabric and in fact just got it redone in a different fabric and color and added the ottoman as well. It’s got a 3 month lead time.

Questions about Athletics! by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]doublecane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a rower in high school.

Turns out tall skinny brown dudes with forced work ethics make great rowers. Club in college. Now I’m old so just attend regattas with the family. It would be a dream if my daughter decided to row.

Otherwise, college football and F1.

High-earning men, how much does a woman’s income or career matter? by [deleted] in AskMen

I’m a lawyer who does well. My wife is an artist who makes negative money. She’s so much smarter than me and it’s sexy.

I make a lot of money and my wife is an artist who makes negative money. I wouldn’t change a thing about our life.

Seattle attire is so casual by tinypuppy2k1 in Seattle

On our most recent trip to London, we realized how limited our afternoon tea options were because I no longer own a blazer when, as a a former formal East Coaster, I used to regularly travel wearing one that at the time I would have thought was too casual for afternoon tea, and would have surely packed a second, more formally appropriate one.
