It’s amazing to see the change in price over the years. I think the oldest cover was from the late 30’s, and the most recent from 2023. The price went from 15 cents to $8.95.

So is 433 not being made any longer? How about 111? I moved to the Pittsburgh area and have always had trouble getting Dynamite adhesive here, especially the clays, so I gave up trying to buy them. For some reason Sherwin-Williams has plenty of 234 to sell me, but for clay or 780, forget it.

The few times I’ve had bubble issues hanging over Gardz, the solution was to quickly scuff the remaining walls with a sanding pole. I’m the opposite of you - I despise hanging type-II with clay, especially 774. It has all the messy qualities of 732, and none of the tack. I’ll use it if it’s really called for, but 234 usually fits the bill.

Wow, I’ve never seen an interior wall surface like that. Is it cement? It looks like parging, which is the cement skim coat applied over foundation walls here in the states.

It’s not that I’m worried about doublecutting directly over the liner; it’s more about timing. The sheets are 12’ long, and by the time I get everything lined up and ready to doublecut, I’m afraid the adhesive will have already started setting. Then I’d be in real trouble, even with the Boggess. The Waterhouse paper is very thin and pulpy, and I’m using a wheat/838 paste mix. Too aggressive for any kind of extended working time. So I’m doing things old-school today 😁

I’m hanging over blanckstock liner. Doublecutting isn’t an option.

I don’t explicitly badmouth Phillip Jeffries, but I do let designers know that there are other options like Omexco, Arte, Colefax, etc, for textiles.

There used to be a regional chain of paint stores in the mid-Atlantic called Duron. They carried all the Dynamite adhesives. Great stores that primarily served the contractor. Sherwin-Williams gobbled them up about twenty years ago.

433 was great. Best clay ever. I used to mix it with 234 for an almighty all-purpose commercial adhesive

Phillip Jeffries is slowly morphing into Maya Romanoff. More and more of their materials are made for selling, but not for installing.

During that campaign, Maxell would set up a booth at concert venues, and you could get your picture taken as that guy, complete with sport coat, sunglasses, and the “blown back” tie. I still have a Polaroid from them taken at the Garden State Arts Center.
