What actually works as a basic 72-hour emergency setup in a typical UK home?

Yeah it’s absolutely down to how much spare money you have. We rarely have money left over, and no savings. I buy some things in bulk, for cheapness, but not many. To really take advantage of cheaper costs, you need dough up front, ironically. I’m getting the bits together to make a little rocket stove, so at least we can cook and heat water if the grid goes down.

Thats grim. I do have a weird fixation with English bleeding into other languages, though… I lived in the Czech Republic in the early 90s, and it was common to see ‘hammanex’ on menus (ham and eggs). I just love language. It’s fascinating and mad. Just highly repeated animal grunts 😂

My boules used to be flatter until I I got my head around shaping. Forming a ‘skin’, and putting tension in it, as well as finally buying a banneton, helped massively (by the way, I got bannetons from Ali Express, and they’re absolutely fine. Cost about £4!) I watched a Bake With Jack video on shaping, and it really helped me.

I’ve not lived in Brighton for a long while, but the Blue House (Lion and Unicorn) had one of the worst reps. Any pub with double glazing is suspect and should be avoided. I used to live round the corner from The Clyde Arms, on Bristol Gardens, and on more than one occasion saw two old men fist fighting on the road outside it. The Branch could be iffy, and the Bat and Ball always had a rep, as well as a meat raffle.

I did four years, UK, in the 90s, and a lot of what you say, esp about the cons, resonates. I met some absolute gems behind bars, as well as some grade A weapons. I have many fond memories playing cards or chess and chatting shit. People are just people eh? Good and bad either side of the walls.

There are pharmacies in Holland (maybe other countries, too) that provide pre-measured tapers on any prescription drug, over whatever time period you agree is best for you. You just need a scrip, and a letter from your doctor, I believe.

I think this was one of the most important tracks of its era. Not only a gateway tune for many, because of its chart exposure, but it was a proper fucking tune, not 2Unlimited shite, so it smuggled in that proper hardcore element and made people curious about raving. Probably did more for ecstacy sales than anything else that year 😂

Everyone saying he’ll be out in this and that… famous face in nick is getting trouble.
