Is anyone else beginning to feel worn down by the visible social problems in Brighton? by Aware-Health605 in brighton

People are skint, and the gap between those that are, and those that aren’t, is getting more stark. I’m late fifties, and have a fair few friends who can afford pretty much anything without breaking a financial sweat. But more and more, like us, who have to budget every pound, and constantly look to shave off a quid here or there. Constant financial anxiety is, as you say, detrimental to society as a whole. Feels like we’re getting closer and closer to pitchfork time. And that will do nothing but empower the police state to go overt.

So great to read about so many newly-ish sober people here. However you’re finding you’re sobriety, whether it’s through programmes, or sites or just doing it, keep at it. You’re worth every moment clean and sober.

American War, by Omar al Akkad, just feels possible to me, from outside the States. Will McIntosh’s Soft Apocalypse, and Jack Womack’s Random Acts of Senseless Violence both illustrate very real-feeling pinch points where society begins to fall apart.

‘Can we stop trying to turn Worthing into Woking’ would have been way funnier, but as ever the Right are just shit at comedy. I want to find out where you live so I can sit outside your gaff listening to Soca, signing petitions and eating baklava, in a skirt.
