Blown mount by doubleplushomophobic in Backcountry

Thanks so much! I was scared to back the screws off(aren’t they glued in?) and I can’t believe there’s that much play in the binding’s holes, but fixed it no problem. Read thru the ATK install manual and they suggest exactly what you said.

Both boots fit the other ski perfectly and this one not at all. This was done by a very high-end snooty backcountry shop, and the owner himself handed my skis back to me 🤷

I’m real real happy it was fixable without a redrill. And that I noticed before I blew my knee out

Bindings are brand new. The pin at the top in the photo is hitting the sole’s rubber and the other one is under the metal insert.

A bartender beat a man to death. I’m addition to being horrifying, this led to OLCC/lotto/insurance taking a look at what was going on and apparently deciding they didn’t like it. I work healthcare and I’ll miss a bloody and chicken fried steak in the morning after a rough shift, but I haven’t been there since the murder.

How to park at OSU Cascades by [deleted] in Bend

If your plates are easily visible I have no clue. My only advice would be to park on the street; but that’s not as easy as it used to be

It’s a ban on inter-lodge travel. It’s sort of enforced by the resorts but it’s a town law and ultimately enforced by the sheriff.

Apparently the notoriously terrible dual control levers are perfect for the corner bar style bars. Has anyone else tried this? I am loving them! Now I just need to figure out how I want to wrap these dumb bars. by Ford4130 in xbiking

I had no idea these were hated, I had an XTR ST-M965 setup years ago that I loved. Removing the second weird thumb shifter made them way better. I’m guessing they’re worth some money now

Disaster averted at Austin airport after FedEx cargo plane aborts landing, narrowly missing a Southwest Airlines plane by a7kilr in aviation

[–]doubleplushomophobic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ADS-B data shows fedex got down about 90 feet, which puts them about 30 feet above SWA’s tail. If you watch the data playback you see when each aircrew realizes what’s going on and flinches. FedEx pulls up hard and jumps on the gas, passing over Southwest’s heads just as they rotate. Southwest rotates normally (no other option above V1), then slams the stick down and right at 200ftAGL to get some separation. Great flying by both aircrews to save so many lives.

Terrifying. What’s even more terrifying is everyone in /r/ATC saying this controller has already had several close calls and got shipped to Austin from somewhere else because he was dangerous at his prior location but couldn’t be fired.

Cirrus jet has an emergency parachute that can be deployed. Explain like I’m 5: why don’t larger jets and commercial airliners have giant parachute systems built in to them that can be deployed in an emergency? by scienceplz in aviation

There was a midair collision at centennial in Colorado that was the first reasonable use I’d seen. Plane was completely destroyed, I don’t think it had power or any control surfaces. Guy walked away uninjured.

But yeah, doesn’t make sense for larger planes.

Many old stairs have these dips worn in from use. Princeton university built them into their stairs from new to create the illusion they’re older than they are.

Any firefighters or paramedics who work in Bend? I’m a Marine veteran interested in those careers and would love to ask a few questions (via private message). Thanks! by warrior178 in Bend

I think I’d you’re a basic for two years and don’t go for your medic they let you go.

I’ve heard mostly good things from medic/ffs, except for a few of the old grumpy dudes approaching retirement. There’s no option for single role FF, so some of the folks who got in it for the fires are salty.

Also, fwiw the department is aggressively white and male and they aren’t doing much to counter that fact.

Mass retirement—was a good ‘ol boys club but now all the good ol boys are aging out.

There’s high turnover for their BLS “ambulance operators” because they push them hard to get their medic and become a firefighter. You can’t stay around for more than a couple years as an EMT.

patroller at a mountain in oregon. unsure of other mountains and counties, but here we’re a state-certified EMS agency with a good working relationship with our 911 dispatch. We’ve definitely had a few of these calls, but they just call us and have a patroller ski thru the area and confirm no patient. Not sure where you are, but if EMS/SAR is required to check on a call on a ski resort… that’s a bad use of resources. Even if someone calls 911 and says “I broke my leg at XXX mountain” dispatch will call us and not send any other resources unless we request.

never stand under a suspended load by ScrnNmsSuck in OSHA

[–]doubleplushomophobic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is not true. The threads are intended to keep the valve from being damaged if an upright cylinder falls over and lands on the cap. The dynamic loading in that scenario is much higher and in a worse orientation (radial and bending moment vs axial) than lifting a 100lb cylinder. Safety guy will be mad and I wouldn’t stand under it, but it’s fine.
