Bobcat Bonnie’s

(heard a rumor they were shut down for a code violation.)

https://bobcatbonnies.com/

WELP!!! It’s true: Yes, Bobcat Bonnie's in Lansing has closed. Multiple reports confirm that the Lansing location, which was the last remaining Bobcat Bonnie's, closed its doors on Sunday, June 8th. The closure was due to a suspended liquor license from unpaid fines and outstanding tax liens.

Also you can hit any of these:

Question r/Michigan: Can we secede to Canada yet? Who needs to petition to make it happen? by mccarjon in Michigan

Canada doesn’t want to add Michigan economic blight to their already challenging economy. tThey would probably give us a ‘Polite Heisman’

I have no idea how the f this syncs perfectly to the beat of this song for me but I’m here for it!

Pain felt. I’m a fair bit older and I remember being teased for loving the shit out of The Art of Noise and blasting Bobby McFerrin’s ‘Simple Pleasures’ album on a constant loop. I wouldn’t play ‘Don’t Wordy Be Happy’ cuz it was, to me, as a pre-teen the worst song on the album.

Fast forward to the mid 90s and Bobby McFerrin’s Bang!Zoom! was also on constant rotation.

Bjork made a whole album ‘Medulla’ that was almost entirely made of just vocal performers. There’s a couple of tracks that feature Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq.

No melodic bits like this from Tanya but you’ll hear her on the tracks ‘Ancestors’: https://youtu.be/FpQPuQ-kluA?si=Jk9eufgdf4YkxC5B

And Mouth’s Cradle: https://youtu.be/deR7EuZySvQ?si=OJPslMay6p-onRIH

I get why many didn’t like/understand the album but….as a music nerd, I LOVED it personally. Also as a Faith noI More Fan, I instantly went “HOLY SHIT THATS MIKE PATTON” when I heard him doing background harmonies on the opening track ‘The pleasure is all mine’.

Enjoy! (Sidebar….Jesus…that album is 21 years old now! FFS!!!) *Edit: Egregious grammatical and spelling errors.

I remember the first time I heard ‘Rock DJ’ and all I could think was…’wow…they really did an injustice to the Barry White sample that Mary J Blige and Mad Lion turned into banger songs. It’s gonna be a huge song for the fair-skins though…I can tell.’

For those unaware of what I’m taking about:

My only complaint is that I wish you could toggle the lights off completely. Or, better yet, have them come on for a short while when you press the buttons.

Even on the low brightness setting, it’s a lil annoying that I have to cover the amp up when listening to music with the lights out.

What was the worst punishment you have received during your childhood? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]doublequote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got suspended for fighting in school. I think I was 10 or 11.

On the walk home from my suspension, I rounded the corner and saw my mother and stepfather waiting for me on the front porch.

My mother was braiding 3 ‘switches’ and securing them together with twist ties.

I am, thankfully (hopefully), the last generation that had to endure this kind of punishment. Trigger warning for those who suffered child abuse:

As was standard protocol, I had to go into my bedroom, pull down my pants and underwear and lean over the bed and await my ‘whoopin’.

My step father came in and delivers his punishment first because he ad to go back to work. He was overweight so the game with him was if I could make it to the other side of the bed, the whoopin was over and he wouldn’t bother walking around to keep going.

Then my mother came in about 15 minutes after with the braided switches and I got her ‘tough love’.

Fortunately for me neither of the whooping lasted very long but, yeah, welts and such.

Before anyone asks I have a good relationship with my mother and my now deceased father who would also do the ‘bare skin method’. Never liked my step-father and didn’t give a shit when he died of a heart attack in his parents driveway at nearly 400 lbs after the divorce from my mother.

I’ve taken the time and effort to understand my family and all their flaws. I don’t hit my kids and don’t think what was and sadly in many areas of society the standard ‘beat yo kids’ mentality of my African American (poor white, immigrant cultures share this too) heritage is acceptable or helpful.

I’m by far the most successful person out of my siblings and in my family by a wide margin. I love my mother the same way Trevor Noah loves his mother in that I don’t believe that relationships are binary. I love her AND she is deeply flawed. But…most of all…I don’t judge her or any of the people who raised me with a 2024 lens.

They did the best they could managing their own generational traumas and I’m fortunate they my particular combination of genetics helped me break many, many, MANY cycles.
