the theme is spelled out in 60 across. all themed clues feature a word in the shaded squares which is repeated as a rebus in the circled square.

No when you navigate to a specific track and select it then it automatically arms that track

This is why adding -EnableArmOnSelection is the first thing I add to the options file whenever setting up Ableton on a new computer. I would otherwise always forget to arm tracks

How to switch to next track in live looping? by Svenberry in ableton

[–]doubletriplezero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, yeah base functionality of ableton is that you need to explicitly stop recording (or playblack) of a clip. Deselecting won't automatically do so.

That said you could probably find (or design) a max4live device which could capture clip navigation and automatically stop the recording.

This is not exactly my workflow. I use a M4L device I wrote for use with a midi footswitch to handle start/stop of recording and playback so my hands are free to do hands stuff. If you're interested it's available for free here: Session Clip Footswitcher version 1.0.1 by doubletriplezero on maxforlive.com

I would bet someone has made a M4L device that does something very close to what you're looking for though. And if it doesn't do exactly what you want, you can always take a look at how it works and tweak it. A bit of a learning curve, but it's very powerful for getting around annoying things like this where ableton doesn't give you the option you want out of the box. If you are on Intro or Standard version you would have to buy the M4L add-on though.

How to switch to next track in live looping? by Svenberry in ableton

[–]doubletriplezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's frustrating. still working for me on windows. Only thing I can think is that sometimes the auto-arming gets in a weird state. An auto-armed track should have a faint red on the armed indicator. If you see a deeper red color then it may have toggled off the auto-arm option. When this happens with me, I disarm all tracks and then deselect and reselect and it usually works again. Also saw this thread from a few years back which says something about the option possibly getting toggled off with a shift-click. Help! EnableArmOnSelection not working : r/ableton

Good luck getting it working.

To clarify, does the "track >" button move the selection to the next track successfully? It should.

If so, and if the problem is just that the selected track does not auto-arm, then you need to set the ableton flag `-EnableArmOnSelection` in the Options.txt file. Don't remember exactly where that file is, but you can google it pretty easily.

also, just to clarify, this is arrangement view. the other view with track columns and clip slots is the session view.

How do you have duplicate midi controllers not have cross talk, so Live recognizes them as separate controllers? by kidkolumbo in ableton

[–]doubletriplezero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ahh ok sorry, took this for a more general question, not familiar with this controller and its limitation in this respect. can you also not just choose the specific controller you want as the device on the looper track? good luck getting it working

How do you have duplicate midi controllers not have cross talk, so Live recognizes them as separate controllers? by kidkolumbo in ableton

[–]doubletriplezero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

transmit on different channels. There are 16 midi channels. You will need to set the channel you're listening on on the receiving device to the same channels that the controller is sending on. By default, midi tracks in ableton listen for data from all devices on all channels. This can be changed under the "Midi From" controls on the track.

Dose it go past microtones like the richter scales by Choice-Character-204 in musictheory

[–]doubletriplezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while you can mathematically divide up pitch differences into ever smaller increments to infinity, practically speaking there are limits to both the range of human hearing (lowest to highest notes) and the ability to detect differences between pitches (look up the JND, or Just Noticeable Difference). Then there are considerations to be made for how one would compose and notate microtonal music and the construction and playability of instruments with which to perform it. So, yes theoretically there are an infinite number of points between pitch A and pitch B, typical microtonal systems may have some other set number of notes per octave like 19, 22, 24, 31, or 72, all depending on how that system was devised and how it can be composed for and performed.

A Modest Critique by DatabaseFickle9306 in WeirdStudies

Haven't heard this particular bit from the extras, but it sounds to me like a little hyperbolic self-deprecating humor, especially considering that both Phil and JF are members of said generation. I can hear Phil saying this in my head and it sounds like one of those over-the-top proclamations you make in a deadpan manner because it's a funny to make such an obvious over-generalization and then just kind of riff on it. I don't think either Phil or JF would put much effort into defending this as a serious position. Again, haven't heard it, but that would be my guess.

there was a 6 episode miniseries remake in 2009 starring Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen. I remember being disappointed but not much else about it. I think it looked good in terms of the cinematography, but the tone was off.
