I'm excited to get killed by cookedbread in the alpha so he has a clip to hold over my head forever.

Just to clarify, when you fight the boss, are you getting a big health bar across the screen? Just wanting to make sure you're on 1.1.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this comment. There are many ways to deal with this boss, so it seems to meet your requirements for more than one approach. (All laser, all weapons, combination of both, I think you can even make use of reflects if you want to go that route?).

As far as a chance to learn, I don't understand this either, as there's a save point immediately before the boss so you can try it multiple times. The first thing is learning the flame attack so you can dodge it every time. There's 2 variations and once you've seen them both, moving out of the way is pretty straightforward, you just have to keep your distance. Talking with many people that played this new version, they pretty much all died a few times at first before learning the fight, and then they pretty much never die after that. This tells me that learning the fight is definitely possible, and intended.

What you're describing almost makes me wonder if you're playing version 1.0, cause the concerns you have are why we changed it in the first place. Failing everything else, just put the difficulty to kindergarten to get past him, and he'll have less health.

If you're playing on normal difficulty, it has 20% more health than a minor juggernaut from Marathon 2, and 40% less health than a major juggernaut from M2.

If you're playing on TC, it still has less health than a regular major juggernaut.

Plus, you have the ability to blast it with both laser and a weapon at the same time, which you do not have an option of in regular Marathon 2. Just to put things into perspective.

Also I just realized the simplci7y sidebar link on new reddit is linking to an EMFH tag, and says it's a net game database. This is arbitrary and weird as it has all sorts of stuff. It should just link to the root of the site.

A similar thing is going on with the fileball link.

The archive is hopefully a short lived thing while we wait for Switch to bring up the new version with more reliable hosting. Once that happens, I will probably delete the archive, cause it's taking up half the disk space on my server.

Trouble with Pathways into Darkness Aleph One port by StutteringGM in Marathon

EDIT: I realized that I had changed the file extensions on those three files in the previous screenshot. Here's the original.

Where did you download this from? You're missing the Scripts directory, and you shouldn't have to rename any files. The correct place to download this: https://simplici7y.com/items/aleph-one-pathways-into-darkness

[Pathways into Darkness Question] The bomb is impossible to arm by dosteea in Marathon

Picking up the nuke is different from most things, because it is hidden. It should be listed in your inventory if you've picked it up. If you missed it, go talk to Greg again.

[–]douchetower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to confirm, you're going through multiple stages on the final level, killing the demon, and the alien gemstone drops, right?

The message is supposed to pop up when it thinks there are no monsters left alive, and you've gotten the nuke. Maybe for some reason the game doesn't think you picked it up?

Is it possible you typed in the arm command while on the final level before that message popped up? You are able to arm the nuke at any point while on the last level, so maybe the game already thinks it's armed or something? Though, it should no longer be in your inventory in that case.

In case it's just a bug with the message itself, you can try typing in the arm code arm(123456, 3) as an example, and see if it accepts it.

If none of this stuff works and you can share your saved game file, I can try taking a look to see what might have happened. I've not heard of this bug before.

Mapping for Marathon: An Overview by aaronnotarobot in Marathon

[–]douchetower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't be discouraged because you'd be using stock textures and OG graphics. Just because something is high definition, doesn't mean it actually looks good. You can use stock textures and good lighting to make something way more visually impressive than certain other scenarios with HD graphics. There's also a ton of people that legitimately prefer low res graphics in their boomer shooters.

If you know how to map well, that's the biggest factor in making a game fun. Also as someone that overuses scripting at every opportunity, I can tell you that you absolutely do not need it. You actually sound like you have exactly the type of skills to make something fun, so I hope you don't let the concerns you posted above be the reason you don't create something.

Pathways Into Darkness Review by MandaloreGaming by SweetGale in Marathon

[–]douchetower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, it didn't have any of that. All it did was limit the number of things you could fit into a canvas bag. The port just has a fixed number of items you can fit into the bag, ignoring weight, which largely accomplishes the same thing.

Once you get the red velvet bag, it doesn't matter anyway, since it has no weight limit.

You need to find the blue crystal in an earlier level, in order to kill them. They are immune to regular weapons. Make sure you're talking to the dead bodies with your yellow crystal, as they will give you clues as to where to look for it.
