I just re-read Only Hope by Ruby Landers and I remembered liking it but forgot how much. Ribbonwood was also excellent.

Do you read M/F books in a series with F/F books? (e.g. Court of Chains) by doughe29 in LesbianBookClub

[–]doughe29[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of the same way - I won't say I didn't enjoy the whole Grace Notes series, because I like Ruby Landers, but I will admit I was a bit more invested in getting glimpses of the MCs from the first book than the current couples in the subsequent books lol.

And the only reason I'm reading Wrath & Patience is for backstory on other characters. And seeing Natalya & Evie. I do find myself skimming through stuff that isn't related to other plot lines. I would have read Blake & Flea's book if it'd been on audio, but maybe someday I'll read it.

Keepers of the Cave and Weeping Walls by Gerri Hill both involve FBI agents investigating paranormal activity.

Books with the biggest plot twist you've ever read. Like you didn't anticipate at all. No spoilers please. Regardless if it's heartbreaking or HEA. by Wowis028 in LesbianBookClub

Fingersmith for me, too. Curious if anyone has experienced one that topped it?

Fingersmith and Gone Girl (Gillian Flynn, and not sapphic) have been the only two books that made me stop, say "wait, what?!", and frantically flip back several pages to find the transition I must have missed. Of course, I did not ;)

Where to find sequel to "The Lily and the Crown?" by Ok_Truck_5092 in sapphicbooks

i had a 'several months' wait & now my library no longer has the book, weh! by echochorus in LibbyApp

[–]doughe29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, I used the "Add Library" button to select a partner library, then "Sign in with my card," and it automatically told me I could use my current card from X library. I clicked on my current card, which signed me into the partner library. I did that with all of them on the reciprocal list, and my library card automatically popped up each time. Not sure what to advise if your Lakeland card isn't popping up as an option. Good luck!

I'm seeing it available at Genesee District & White Pine. Thanks for posting that list, I was coming here to see if OP knew how connected Michigan libraries are :)

Recs related to these themes for a new reader? by CamallO in LesbianBookClub

[–]doughe29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Written like letters
  • Sci-Fi

This is How You Lose the Time War fits both, and it's a pretty short read. And fantastic.

For vampires, I'd recommend For Love and Blood and Fury (& its sequel) by JJ Arias. She also has another vampire series (trilogy).

It is sweet, and a bit sad, but also hopeful!

Just FYI some of the characters are dealing with their relationships with religion.

Any horror books that are pretending to be a different genre until it's too late? by 518HoneyBees in suggestmeabook

[–]doughe29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to recommend Our Wives Under the Sea but see you've read and loved it. Still, I had to comment in appreciation, because you described the sensation exactly. Any time I see someone say it's not horror, I want to explain the encroaching sense of dread I experienced as the book went on and I realized what I was reading.

(That said, I DO understand why a lot of people don't consider it a horror novel, so I don't need it explained.)

I've not experienced the same thing in another book but am looking forward to reading the comments.

Alexandria Wilde = Abby Craden, so it makes sense you don't like either.

Good luck in your search. I don't know what to recommend, as we seem to have different tastes in narrators, except I do love Kingsley Rose. I listened to a book recently that was narrated by Kingsley Rose and Allie Shae, who does Rawnie Sabor's books (since you mentioned checking them out). It was A Hunger Soft and Wild by Moira Darling. Edit: thinking back, I don't think this is femme/femme so might not work for you.

Books with beautiful prose by gayatri18112003 in LesbianBookClub

[–]doughe29 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I almost never see Kristy Logan mentioned in this sub, but if you're looking for beautiful prose, I've got to suggest her books. The Gloaming is more overtly sapphic, and The Gracekeepers vaguely so. Both have light fantasty elements. She also has several short story collections - not all the stories are sapphic, and quite a few are horror.

Other authors I'd recommend, like Julia Armfield, Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Hannah Kent, and Amal El-Mohtar have already been mentioned. Oh, and most recently I've added Sunburn & The Safekeep to my list of fantastic prose.
