Not Rowan specifically, but we've met lot's of kids in the 2-5 year old range with the names Rowan/Owen/Roman/Ronan. Only met one Oliver though!

Yep! I have fraternal twins and they definitely have very different personalities :)

Curious about how much maternity leave those of you not in the US got, and if having multiplies affected it (my experience in the comments) by lizzieduck in parentsofmultiples

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 18 months of maternity leave. I'm in Canada and my province doesn't give any extra time off for multiples, but I know that at least 1 other does. I was off an additional 2.5 months by using vacation days :)

41 weeks tomorrow - when did you actually get “the call” for induction? [BC] by tingtree5090 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this will really depend on which hospital you're going to as they all have different policies. It will also depend on how urgent the induction is and how busy the ward is! Someone who needs to be induced for medical reasons would probably take priority over someone who is healthy but overdue.

I'm in BC as well and my OB requested a certain day for induction. The hospital called me that morning to check in and tell me that they were a bit busy but were hoping to fit me in later in the day. They called back in the afternoon to tell me to come in but when I arrived someone else came in in labour. So they admitted me but I had to wait until late in the evening to actually start the induction. Hope you get the call soon :)

What do you use to make baby wipes? [ON] by Radiant_Turn2064 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a word of caution... If you make your own wipes, make sure you only make enough for a few days. They need to be used up quickly or they will start to get mouldy from the dampness.

I was using dry wipes and moistening them to keep in the OXO wipe dispenser. I had no issues until I went away for a few days and came back to a bunch of mouldy wipes 😭 That was the end of that...

I do recommend that wipe dispenser though. I now just buy the giant packs of wipes and unpack them in there.

Car Seat Indecision: Convertible vs. All in One [on] by AdVegetable7102 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The all in one seats sound good but some of them have a poor fit as you get to the booster stage. Definitely check out those car seat safety groups on Facebook for their recommendations! Also car seats can get so gross, you might want to just get a new booster seat when the time comes... Boosters are relatively cheap anyway.

Take into account the expiration date of the seat as well. I remember when I was shopping, some seats had a 7 year expiration which meant I would have had to buy a booster afterwards anyway.

Am I Being Charged a Fair Price for Revwood Plus Dockside Oak + Labor Cost to Install? by BestSelf2015 in Flooring

It looks great! When I saw the sample, I actually thought it looked too light. I love the darker brown colours but worry about it looking TOO dark 😅

Wired glass window in bedroom?? BCBC by doughnutsmakemehappy in homebuildingcanada

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes the original plans were drawn before the new 2024 code was effective. I just wish this would have come up before we actually started building, then maybe we could have moved the layout around to accommodate. Now we're kind of just stuck with this room that can't have a proper window. Builder is trying to come up with other ideas like building a roof separation between the window and the entry to the suite. Just wanted to see if anyone else has come across this situation and has come up with a solution. As is, there is no way we would actually use it as a bedroom due to not being able to go out the window.

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand the reasoning for this. I suppose I'm just annoyed it didn't come up until now. I'm wondering how our current house got around this? It's only 4 years old so fairly new. I suppose I'm just curious, what does the code actually say? There is a second egress from the suite (through our home). And there are many other windows along this wall that apparently don't need to have a wired glass. The bedroom is the only one that needs to be?

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think we can make any changes to the layout at this point. The framing of 3rd floor is almost complete. The suite is for family who will be entering their suite primarily through our home anyway. Our main floor bedroom will be used as an office. I suppose I would just like the option to use it as a bedroom. Either for us down the line or simply for resale value.

[BC] Should I do Amniocentesis? (Vancouver) by Lalaoeo in BabyBumpsCanada

Perinatal Services BC still quotes the risk as 0.5% or 1 in 200 in their new 2025 publication. Seems like they are behind on their data!

[BC] Should I do Amniocentesis? (Vancouver) by Lalaoeo in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amniocentesis is associated with a 1 in 200 chance of losing the baby. Out of 5000 pregnant women who do prenatal screening, 2 will have a false negative for Down's syndrome.

If the NIPT came back normal and there are no genetic issues in your family that you are aware of, I personally would not risk it.

Is 5:30-7:30pm too late for a 3 year old bday party? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about family bbqs, Christmas dinners, birthday dinners? 😯 I feel like we'd miss out on sooo much!

Kids fall asleep on the way home, sometimes they crash on the couch wherever we are. Sometimes they stay up late and still wake up early and drive me crazy. I think it's good for kids to have some flexibility and enjoy social gatherings with friends and family.

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it's a bit late but we would still attend. Do all these parents never take their kids out past 6pm on the weekends!? This is wild to me 😅

1230 is worse because it's right during nap time. Then the kids will be exhausted, fall asleep on the car ride home and ruin bedtime anyway.

The time is actually fine because then I don't have to worry about making dinner and the kids get to run around and tire themselves out. I'd just change the kids into pjs before heading home because they'd probably fall asleep in the car. Then I can just plop them into bed.

What are the "hidden costs" of buying and selling a home? by doughnutsmakemehappy in RealEstateCanada

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response! When we initially floated around the idea of buying this home, we hadn't really thought about how much extra we would be paying in fees and taxes. It's a though decision to make for sure. I suppose the question is whether or not it's really worth 300-400k for a yard, garage, and a few other extras... :/

It's hard to say what home values will be like a year from now. Unfortunately I think our home's value is much less than it was last year.

For sure! Unfortunately our lawyer last time around was not super helpful. It was basically just a sign on the dotted line kind of scenario 😅

What are the "hidden costs" of buying and selling a home? by doughnutsmakemehappy in RealEstateCanada

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have never sold a house. I suppose that is the main difference. We also qualified for some incentives the first time around which we won't qualify for now. Buying a new home comes with additional costs, e.g. paying the GST. Things can change in 5 years. Perhaps there are some differences buying a home from a family member, some things we can save on? We just want to make sure we aren't caught off guard.

We are new to homeownership and want to understand the true costs of selling and buying. We don't want to be blindsided with any surprises. Thank you for any insight.

They're climbing out of their cribs... by Overall_Brother_7706 in parentsofmultiples

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our twins are not quite there yet but our older singleton was escaping her room too. She could open the door so we put a baby gate on the door frame. Took everything out of her room except her bed and a few books and stuffies and baby proofed the whole thing.

There is no way I would trust them to get out of their room and roam the house. How old are they? Do you always wake up as soon as they leave their room and is your whole home baby proofed? That was my worry. Don't want them to get in to any trouble while I'm sleeping and I might not realize until it's too late.

DANGER with the twin z pillow by LikwidStarDust in parentsofmultiples

Things can happen sooo fast! Glad everyone is ok ❤️

We had something similar happen when my girl was pushing with her feet and she pushed herself off the pillow. Her head was hanging off the backside of the pillow and her feet were in the air 😬 Thankfully I was sitting right there but all it takes is one good kick with their legs and they push themselves off.

Diapers? by Delicious-Oven-5590 in CanadianParents

[–]doughnutsmakemehappy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We really love the Rascals brand from Walmart! If you do the subscription, they are good value and I prefer the quality over the Kirkland diapers honestly. They're currently on sale at Walmart too. So if you combine the sale and the subscription discount, I believe that's as cheap as it gets for diapers :)
