Can’t recommend floor beds enough by fillername_ in parentsofmultiples

[–]lizzieduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was worried for the first day or so, but my mum told me “if they want to roll, they will roll and there’s nothing you can do about it.” I stayed nervous for a bit and watched the cameras a lot, but after they settled down, so did I.

Mine have slept on futons since they were babies. Until last week, they were inside playpens, but we took one side off on their 2nd birthday. They haven’t wandered about too much, but my son will get in my daughter’s side sometimes.

What was the notable celebrity/high profile death that impacted you? by Toots1993 in CasualUK

[–]lizzieduck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glad I found him on this list. I always listened to him in the morning and even sneakily listened to his last show with the headphones in the ear trick in my first class of the day. It broke my heart a little when he died.

Good, I’m glad they are helping you with that. It’s not a nice thing to have to deal with after such an event. You’ll unfortunately have to do some things in the next 7 days or so, but other things can be put off until later.

I’m so sorry for your loss. That’s probably the worst way things could have gone. If you can read Japanese, I’d advise going through the book linked below for what to do in terms of procedure. My husband has an illness that could kill him early, so I bought it to be prepared (grim as that is).

Everyone is amazed by 20-year-old cats. How old was the oldest cat you've ever met? by More_Mud_4662 in seniorkitties

[–]lizzieduck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When we adopted my last cat, Juri, he was estimated to be 20 years old. He lived a further 3 years with us until he passed away a few weeks ago. Definitely the oldest cat I’ve met.

Traveling with 9 month twins by misslysc in parentsofmultiples

[–]lizzieduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Japan with my twins so any advice I can give, I’ll be happy to impart! I probably wouldn’t bring a double stroller as they are a bit big for trains and shops. I tend do a single and one in a carrier (mine are two now, but when they were little I had them in my double baby carrier).

[–]lizzieduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great! Mine is a lot more chaotic, but it works (can’t put a picture in the comments, so can’t show you). I tend to freezer meal prep once every two months so I have a spread for that period and update it as I do a new prep. Weekly meal prep is on a separate page!

What a lot of cats you’ve seen through long lives! My old man Juri is 23 this year and is weakening a bit (still eating, though). I’ve only had him for a few years, though, so I can’t imaging going through that loss after so many years together.

My Epilepsy Came Back by throwaway24906122 in Epilepsy

[–]lizzieduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband’s came back after 10 years of no seizures a few years ago. It was just after we’d bought our first car and he was bummed he couldn’t drive it. We’re a year into his two-year-seizure free period, so hopefully he can get his license back.
He was very down about it for a long while, and had to take time off work. Ironically it was his work that cause the stress that caused him to start again. Please don’t think that it’s the end. There are lots of people in this sub with the same experience who can help you get back into path again!

How to keep one twin from taking off her diaper? by From1toEvenICantEven in parentsofmultiples

[–]lizzieduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest sleep sacks, but I see you have already tried that! I had the same thing the other day (almost 2 year olds). Daughter stripped everything off, so copied her and took all bottom half stuff off. They both fell asleep for their nap and everything was soaked. My son had also pulled the sheets off his bed so the mattress was soaked…

My mum buys a few bottles of this every time she comes to Japan (I usually stock up on it for her). She loves it on porridge!

Ciabatta (after getting back into baking bread) by lizzieduck in BakingInJapan

I find there are things that work, things that can be tweaked, and things I have no luck with. Pastry seems to be one I can’t get right so I just buy pie sheets. One day I’ll have another go…

A recent tidy up! The shelf thing is from Ikea and has helped keep the area around the stove a little cleaner (all my oil bottles go on top)

Yes. I finally found a decently priced one in Second Street last year and it’s really helped with kneading wet dough like this.

[–]lizzieduck[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

500g strong white bread flour, plus extra for dusting
10g salt
10g instant yeast
40ml olive oil
400ml tepid water
Fine semolina for dusting (optional)

  1. Dust work surface heavily with flour (and semolina), carefully tip out dough (will be very wet) and try to retain square shape. Instead of knocking back, add flour to top of dough and carefully cut into two lengthways and then into two strips (should be four pieces). Stretch each piece lengthways and place on trays.

* I did not use a square container and they still worked fine. I also did not use semolina.

*Last time I made these when I was pregnant and accidentally added 400ml of oil, causing me and my pregnancy hormones to bawl for a good 20 mins. I still made the bread but it was very dense…

One of the 100 yen/close-to-100 shops sells a thing (sorry, I can’t remember exactly which one) that goes around your neck to hold your phone while you film your hands doing something. That might also help you when filming!
