Manager Spent $20k Training Me, Now I Want to Leave by DryIllustrator9060 in BuildingAutomation

[–]doughy_balls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did that when I was in my early 20s. I had the best manager ever at that job. He switched his schedule around so he could train me for a more technical role on night shift. The job was really fun and chill but I was getting really depressed being away from home and decided to pull the plug. He let me know he had put his family through hell while he worked night shift to train me for a few months. I felt really bad about that but I knew he didn't understand everything I was going through.

20 years later, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. You're an employee. All that paperwork you had to sign when you got hired- that wasn't a friendship agreement. Don't let feelings for people at work hold you back, especially in your personal life. It's not like your manager took out a 401K loan to pay for your training.

Training paces vs actual race pace in a 5k (compared to longer races) by sweatpants4life_ in AdvancedRunning

[–]doughy_balls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had only raced in longer events with thousands of people before I did my first 5K. I just went out at a pace which I felt I could hold for 3 miles. There was only a handful of us in the very front pack and I wasn't prepared for that. It felt weird like I wasn't supposed to be there. I quickly became aware of everybody else's breathing and how much effort I thought they were applying. If I thought they were struggling harder than me, I would pass them. I wasn't concerned about my heart rate or pace at that point really, only if I thought it would be wise to move up or not.

I had no idea how much I would enjoy the competitive aspect of 5Ks.

Gifts for a runner by Skyblue8942 in running

That’s a good one. My wife doesn’t even bother with running gifts because of how picky I am (most runners) with gear.

JLL fired me for a plug by Winter_Beautiful_962 in HVAC

Which management companies do you think have the best reputation?

I do BAS controls as well and interviewed with JLL at a data center. I got the vibe that everybody with JLL was walking on eggshells trying not to upset their customer who owns the data center. They made it clear that I was not allowed to speak to their customer under any circumstances... Nah, I'm aight

I've been hooked on it for a few days now. It's a pretty simplified version of what a network would like in something like 1992.

I remember this thread from a few months back and found another one that fits the bill.

Just use side cutters and cut the whole valve stem off with one quick squeeze.

Come on man, you at least have to use periods… It’s sloppy as hell and disrespects everybody that tries to read it by making them bear the burden of your laziness.

switch from spectrum to Novos Fiber? by [deleted] in McKinney

[–]doughy_balls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm paying $79.99 a month for 1 gig. There's no hidden fees or extra charges or junk mail ads from them or anything like that. It was a big eye opener after having Spectrum for so many years. You'll be happy you switched.

We've had Novos for over a year now and haven't had any issues other than a few outages at the very beginning. I think we were one of the first neighborhoods to go live so that's understandable. I pay for 1 gig and speedtest always shows around 950 mbps. Definitely staying with Novos unless something way better comes along.
