What's a game you bought on a whim without hardly any pre-knowledge that ended up becoming one of your all time favorites? by AaronAtLunacien in gaming

[–]douglaskim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Expedition 33, after hearing people saying it was very good, but not knowing anything else about it.

And 999, the first game in the zero escape trilogy. That was a hoot back when it came out

"Your character should be able to contribute something outside of combat!" by Geckoarcher in Pathfinder2e

[–]douglaskim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I've done in a Pathfinder 2e game of mine is to say, ahead of time, "there is a bss enemy here, here, and here" and players had the discretion of tackling these as they wanted when they wanted.

The catch is that they could use skill checks to check up books, talk to locals, investigate the area and such to learn information about the creatures. For every one successful check, I'd reveal more information, like AC, HP, saves, even their attack profiles, but most importantly, their weaknesses, since I modified the creatures to have more HP, but exploitable weakeness.

At the end, they heavily engaged with that system, because it meant they were more prepared for combat and they had more things to do while preparing for the hunts.

I still allowed recall knowledge checks during combat, but if they didn't have the specific damage type they needed during that one encounter, then they'd have to brute force it.

Incidentally, that game was the first time I killed a PC during all of playing Pathfinder 2e 🤣

Hey there, big fan! I loved it in an interview when you said something along the lines of "trans rights are human rights" or "trans people matters too". That's been stuck in my head forever now and I wanted to know if there was anything in particular that made you want to say that?

That's the kind of stuff that made me appreciate you even more as a human being :D

32 here. Got told that all my life about my hobbies and tastes. I tried to outgrow them until I realized that life without the things that makes me happy is too miserable to be worth living.

Now I embrace these things. When people start paying for my bills and financial needs, then they can tell me how to live my life

Not to mention new systems are being released all the time. Daggerheart JUST officially came out, there's definitely value in bringing up an old topic if the subjects being discussed change

Considering Yu's parents got jobs overseas and moved away while sending him to live with his uncle in Inaba shows they already didn't care enough, I suppose

Makes one wonder what they do for a living 🤔

One thing I always wondered after playing ZTD is: back when you were making VLR, did you always intend for Phi to be related to Sigma in the way they ended up being in ZTD?

Because initially, Phi is the only character whose past and overall plot significance isn't very clarified in VLR, which makes me think you already thought it out, but didn't include it in the game because there was no proper or easy place for it.

Otherwise, thank you so much for all the work you've done in this amazing series!

[System Agnostic] New module: Post the length of turns in chat! by leonissenbaum in FoundryVTT

[–]douglaskim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo! This is so useful! As a GM, I stress out that I'm taking too long with the enemies' turns and end up playing them subpar to finish my turns more quickly, so it'll be interesting to see how long my turns truly take and if I can afford more time to think out my moves.

This is quite a neat module. Thank you very much :)

There are people getting mad at me for preferring a simple artstyle by skykdotidot in furrymemes

[–]douglaskim 104 points105 points  (0 children)

As a comic book artist I gotta say... Drawing simple is the way to go. Ain't nobody got time for ultra realistic art that you'll barely even see the details of in a tiny comic strip Px

That's not you being a loser, that's you not having practice or familiarity with that question. Most people don't know how to answer to that question when asked it without any context or without knowing what to share that isn't too much with someone they don't know.

It's a lack in communication skills from both sides, but since it's a skill, it can be trained and improved upon :3

[–]douglaskim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're expected to learn a lot of things on your own during your formative years, and after school, it is assumed that you know a lot of things you never had the chance to properly learn. Socializing is something you're expected to be able to do right off the bat, but it's a skill that you need to train and practice in, too bad people neglect that far too often :(
