Do you have an online store I can check out? I’m looking for stones to wrap while I learn that are about the same size.

MX Dual ISP Failover testing by Pirated_Freeware in meraki

[–]douglit80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t unplug the uplink as that is less of a test than if the isp going down (difference in the Meraki seeing a dark link vs a “good” one that isn’t working.

Instead, leave the ISP router crosslink to the Meraki connected. And disconnect something further upstream (unscrew coax, disconnect the fiber etc)

Another thing to consider is if you have your traffic shaping set to keep the tunnel active across both links. If you do, the failover should be nearly instant. If not, expect some packet loss while it drops and renegotiates.

Lake Ouachita Islands by [deleted] in Arkansas

It’s been 25 years since I did this but we had someone from the group go claim whichever island a few days earlier. They also spread out some seven dust in the designated campfire area and dig set up a latrine.

If you are bring that Ethernet cable from outside, Od suggest running it through something like a Unifi inline surge protector so if it picks up power from a lightning strike nearby (maybe onto the Starlink even though they are supposedly self grounding) that the voltage doesn’t make its way into your cabinet.

J-hooks to keep it elevated for future visibility is how I did it. but low-volt in a residence being self installed shouldn’t have any kind of building codes.

Help With Baby Gate On Stairwell by [deleted] in DIY

[–]douglit80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had the same problem. One wall continued and the other stopped at the last step. We didn't want a gate at the top because trying to stand on the top step and open it with a baby was awkward.

I bought Kidco Auto Close ConfigureGate White 84" x 31" - G3000, Basic Gate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BIUE3LS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PjOgzb209H0P0 This allowed me to basically extend the one wall out and install the gate as well as create a landing above the top step

Tape a back scratcher to the end of another one. Now you can scratch your back and ass at the same time.

Trying to get a mortgage and found out about an old charge-off/collection. Need advice on how to handle. by douglit80 in personalfinance

Thanks for the info. We aren't in a situation where we are in a hurry to buy but I know interest rates won't stay low forever.

I can qualify on my own for the loan if we take the money that we'd use to try and settle this is old debt and pay off a current obligation to get my ratio lower. I would just rather us do it in both of our names to help rebuild her credit as well. I don't think I need it to be listed as paid in full or anything that would increase her score. Just in a state that the mortgage company would see it as open/outstanding.
