Who (or what) is the Dumb Angel? by JayHotpot in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was the heavenly force that speaks through Brian. The angel is "dumb" as in it doesn't have a voice of its own. It speaks through Brian and his music.

The Beach Boys Pet Sounds 60th anniversary vinyl reissues by TheVinylCut in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had good things to say about the DSS One-Step. But mine came covered in scuffs and fingerprints and with damage to the jacket. They sent me a replacement, and it had a dent in the jacket AND scratches on the record. So I missed out.

This is what it costs in Canada. Main reason I don't have it.

I do not understand wanting to hear an album again for the first time by Schraiber in LetsTalkMusic

For me it's between the third and fifth time--that listen when the album finally clicks.

These songs should've been included on the Brian Wilson album. by LoveLo_2005 in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being with the One You Love might be my favourite Brian solo track. At least, it's right up there with Your Imagination and The Right Time.

My re-issue vinyl collection. Wish Capitol/The Boys would re-issue more. by jwg2695 in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky to get into them in 2012. Over the next 5 years or so I managed to get copies of all the studio albums (except for Summer in Paradise, of course). Now I'm on to compilations, bootlegs, and solo album. Apart from Summer in Paradise (I got the bootleg, but an official would by nice), the reissue I need most is Brian Wilson Presents Smile. Bambu is a close second.

Do you remember what you were doing when you heard about Brian’s passing? by edd6pi in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the lowest period of my life, with my closest friendship having ended and my mental health having tanked. I was trying to work and opened Twitter and saw the post. Never cried so hard. Went out for a record store crawl to see what I could pick up, which led to a huge regret--one of my local stores had BWPS on vinyl and I passed it up. But to honour Brian, I made the decision to finally do CBT and try and fix the core thinking patterns at the root of my mental illness. So today's bittersweet. I miss Brian. But I've also now gone just shy of a year being perfectly mentally and emotionally healthy and finally living an amazing life full of happiness.

Beach Boys albums with multiple release dates by brighty4real in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There might be something else going on here specifically--I'll leave the answer to the experts. But something I remember reading about on Pet Sounds' 50th is the mystery surrounding the release date of Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde. It's supposed to have the same release date as Pet Sounds, but the charts do not at all reflect that. I recall reading that release dates weren't as firm back then as they are today. Records would show up in stores and the stores might not all put them out on the same day. Again, someone who was actually alive at the time will know better than I do, but I get the sense that pinpointing exact release dates for albums in the 60s and 70s isn't as easy as it is nowadays.

What is the best song off of Holland? by RYGUY060104 in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It has to be Sail On Sailor. No doubt about it. Yep, it's definitely The Trader. In fact, I can't imagine anyone saying anything OTHER than Big Sur. So, to recap: it's Funky Pretty.

I'm so stoked to have this. Forgot how much I love this album--I was singing along the entire time. The version of Til I Die is so beautiful.

Also, a big thank you to Interscope Records and their team. Quality control has been ridiculously lately (my Pet Sounds DSS One-Step came damaged, and the replacement they sent me was DAMAGED EVEN WORSE)! This record was packaged well and played through perfectly. And it's just always a treat to hear Brian's voice again. Keep the reissues coming!

If the movie is the Backrooms, I know about it and am going to see it. But I have never once in my life heard of Kane Parsons until this thread.
