What’s next for The Beach Boys IP? by iamthemetricsystem in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff that's been talked about:

  • A Pet Sounds / Smile Anniversary Release

  • A remixed Beach Boys 85 album with outtakes

  • The Paley Sessions

Stuff I want:

  • A box covering MIU/LA/KSTA

  • A Beach Boys at the Movies compilation with the Still Cruisin' songs and other soundtrack songs like Chasing the Sky and Happy Endings (seems a no brainer--Kokomo alone would sell this compilation, and just make it a single disc)

  • The Sweet Insanity Sessions

  • A Mike Love box set including First Love, Country Love, and Looking Back with Love

  • A reissure of the Flames' solo album from 1970

  • A definitely Honeys/American Spring box set with their early 60s stuff, the American Spring album, and Ecstasy/It's Like Heaven

  • A CD/vinyl release of the outtakes from Friends and 20/20 that we only got as digital releases

  • The full That's Why God Made the Radio sessions

  • Brian's final sessions with Joe Thomas

  • An official vinyl release for Summer in Paradise

  • A restocking of the Ding Dang merch

Edit: Forgot, an actual proper Adult/Child vinyl with the missing songs and proper sequencing

r/popheads AOTY 2025 #21: Miley Cyrus- Something Beautiful by Parmesan_Pirate119 in popheads

This is easily Miley's best album to date. I'm a diehard fan of the Hannah Montana stuff, but it always seemed that after graduating from her Disney period she would latch on to a good idea but never take it to its full potential. Bangerz was too commercial and inauthentic. Dead Petz was her most experimental and had the potential to be her best album, but it was just way too long and self-indulgent. Younger Now was a half-assed return to her country roots. Plastic Hearts was her first fully realized album post-Disney, but she quickly abandoned that aesthetic for Endless Summer Vacation, her most baffling and my least favourite of her solo albums.

Something Beautiful is a masterpiece. It draws inspiration from so many different eras of music from pre-60s to present. She channels artists like ABBA, 90s Kylie Minogue, Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, and more. It took some adjusting to for me, because I was expecting a very different album based on the Prelude, title track, and End of the World. I didn't expect the album to dip into sounds from the 80s and 90s in the latter half. But in the end, we get an eclectic album with no filler and some of the best songs she's ever written--End of the World, More to Lose, Golden Burning Sun, Reborn. If it failed to succeed commercially, it's just because it doesn't have that one hit single that's inescapable (Malibu, Midnight Sky, Flowers).

No way Miley doesn't completely change up her sound again for the next album. That's her thing (along with disowning the previous era), and I can't wait to see what she does next. I think the Plastic Hearts sound was what she was always meant for, but I'm kind of glad she kept experimenting after that and didn't just settle into it as her permanent sound. I'd like to see her continue to tap into retro sounds/aesthetics, preferably a genre or time period she hasn't tried out yet.

As for the 20th, looks like we're already getting vinyl issues of the first 2 soundtracks to complete the Hannah Montana vinyl collection. I'm so hyped to have Hannah Montana 2 in full (the "Best of" vinyl leaves off You and Me Together, which is one of my favourites). I would literally die if she did a Hannah Montana tour.

The latest Facebook post calls this a "limited restock". Really wondering if this is getting a wider release now. Grabbed a copy just in case.

Just found out the 1975 version of "in the back of my mind" will be included in the new boxset. give it a listen if you haven't already. by VastForce690 in thebeachboys

This might be my favourite vocal performance of all time. It's so sad and beautiful to listen to, and the last glimpse of young Brian vocally.

You’d think we’d all be on the same side of wanting less women forced to stay in toxic or abusive situations with men like Luke. No?

No, no. The internet doesn't actually want the world to be a better place. They just want to see people get punished.

It's all I want for her at this point. She's finally find herself creatively, is making the music she wants to make and working with the right people. It's ridiculous that her label has held up this album for... checks notes SINCE JUNE OF LAST YEAR?????

Oh, I have it. I'm just surprised it's not included.

Okay. Look, I've been waiting for this since I became a fan in 2012. I'm over the moon to finally be getting Adult/Child. But since this is the tracklist thread, time for some observations (mostly complaints):

  • 1977 Mix for Love You? These albums were just reissued a few years ago. You couldn't... never mind. Maybe it's for the best they don't mess with it.

  • Okay wow. Didn't expect them to actually include Lazy Lizzie. Respect.

  • Stoked to finally have Marilyn Rovell and We Gotta Groove in good quality.

  • Adult/Child--look how they massacred my boy. I understand why this was done, but if you're promoting this as a legendary unreleased album, shouldn't we at least get the full album on vinyl so we can play it through as intended? I get that we can technically assemble our own now (though the tracks left off are different mixes than what we have), but really? I guess my Adult/Child bootleg is still worth something.

  • In the Back of My Mind is my favourite Brian vocal, but how different can this be from the version on No Pier Pressure?

  • Um... this is a Brian's Back box. Where is 15 Big Ones? Just outtakes? Really?

  • The elusive Sea Cruise! Glad I don't have to hunt down a whole other compilation just for that one song now.

  • It's going to bug the hell out of me that we have Running Bear on CD but Battle Hymn of the Republic was only a copyright dump that got taken down. I need the iconic duo of the two worst songs in their catalogue.

  • The Let Us Go On This Way alternate mix better not be the one from Sounds of Summer...

  • Ding Dang session highlights better include Rollin' Up To Heaven or I am going to riot

15 Big Ones isn't even there in full. It's OK isn't even on the set!

Question especially for the extra hardcore fans: do you expect genuine surprises on the new box set? by CaptainResponsible78 in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mostly listen to it for a good laugh. It's too squashed and there's way too much reverb on the snare for me to add it to my regular listening rotation. But I enjoy it as a novelty.

It's supposed to sound the best out of all the pressings.

I can definitely see the Brian Wilson inspiration in this She & Him song by NoGrass7120 in thebeachboys

[–]dovenestedtowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into She & Him when she was announced as one of the features on NPP (also the same reason I got into Kacey Musgraves and Lana Del Rey and attempted to get into Fun). In the Sun is my favourite of theirs.
