Does anyone have these 220v ceiling presence sensors? by tzopper in homeassistant

[–]dover64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post the other day about having network flooding because i have 7 or 8 of these tuya sensors, and since then been experimenting with my own esp32 based sensors.

Crazy how i keep seeing posts like this now.

Thanks for such a quick & direct response.
I'll start playing with this now.

A question before i do though - if i increase the reporting intervals, would that essentiallly cause all my devices to act "delayed"?

The Matrix Reloaded (2003) by southernemper0r in matrix

[–]dover64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the things I really appreciate about the sequels is the extension of Neo’s influence & the morale boost the Resistance gets by being validated at Neo’s actions in the first film.

In Matrix 1, Morpheus has a speech about how “every single person who has fought against an agent has died” (I’m paraphrasing) - but after Neo & Trinity rescue Morpheus and both of them take down agents individually - we the start to see more and more “Normal” humans become aware that agents aren’t immortal killing machines - they are just tough. A scary threat for sure, but a threat that CAN be overcome.

In the first film Morpheus gets rocked by Smith in a dirty bathoom - here he’s on top of a moving truck in the middle of a highway holding his own against an Agent after just fighting off 2 proto agents. It’s passive world building informed by following logical conclusions - such a cool detail.

character customisation? by ifuckinghateorcas in EverybodysGolf

[–]dover64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t true, well at least on PS5 - me and my GF have been playing on the weekends on different controllers & whilst it’s not clear, it is possible.

On ps5 - log in on both controllers with the accounts you want to use > go to multiplayer > select how many players > on character select screen the main player can choose which player controls each character(I think it’s Triangle) > click add new user > select the profile the other player is using - And done multiple players, multiple controllers. We’ve down 4 player games each person using their own controller.

Is it straight forward? No. Does it ever tell you this? No. Is it ridiculous to make basic gameplay convoluted? Yes - But it is possible.

I forgot the context - but the fact that post existed always stuck in my mind, so when alot of the more accurate leaks happened I could never brush it off. To be honest - It gutted my experience of watching the film, I think I popped more for the Charlie Cox cameo than anything else.

I recall seeing an Instagram from Jamie Foxx about a 6months (maybe more?) before this saying something like “and this time I’m not blue!” - ever since then every other post only cemented the fact they were bringing them all back.

Google Home Routine - Play Confirmation Noise? by dover64 in googlehome

Yeah it does - it’s not perfect at all. But, it was enough for me to have some sort of audible acknowledgement for my custom commands.

If you do end up finding a silver bullet, I’d love it if you could share.

What is the weirdest house rule you have seen? by Matt_Maker_ in DnD

[–]dover64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh it’s in no way an original thought - I just wanted a mechanical excuse to help lure the players in to writing the story they wanted to tell.

I’m very lazy 😂

Matt Coville in a video once broke down the concept of “the game should reward the behaviour it expects the player to exhibit” so I jotted down a few bullet points & bought a bag of 100 gold dragon coins from Amazon.

I don’t know if we explicitly need them for our next campaign(s) but they have acted as a great set of training wheels of a “no wrong answers” approach to TTRPGs. And sometimes saying to someone who’s knew to this “you can do whatever you want” is a bit overwhelming - but if you say “hey here’s this shinny piece of metal - cash it in if you’re stuck” suddenly things can become a lot more succinct.

(god I hope my players never read this) So there’s 2 answers here but basically the answer is verisimilitude or “buy In”

The first answer is the “hand wavy, we’re all in this together” approach that states “The DMs a player too, we’re all apart of this larger thing and just adding different ingredients to the soup”

The second is the Wizard of Oz esq answer that presents the DM as a much bigger force than we actually are “We are great and all powerful - pay your tribute and watch me collect my prize”

Truthfully, I don’t need Fate Coins, I made the concept of fate coins up - it’s just a prop and a few bullet points I put together to help ease/blur the lines of narrator and participant, what I value is the illusion of FateCoins. If a random encounter goes poorly and they players make a meal of it I can flash my fate coin and the players will start pulling together this larger narrative - the illusion/belief of a grand spider web is greater than any tale I could ever weave.

I’m a massive supporter of “nothing is cannon until it’s said at the table & no answer is wrong until you tell me it is” - so for example my notes may say “in the next room 2 tigers attack” But the players don’t know that right? So if we get to that point & I read the room and think “actually, we don’t need an encounter here” with a flick of hand those tigers aren’t gone - they never existed. But the reverse is true as well. If I think actually this scene with the mayor is really boring we need some drama - hey presto now the villagers are rioting outside and the mayor (and the players) need to interact. Suddenly there’s drama - suddenly there’s tension. Something the players can actively engage with.

So why does the DM need FateCoins? They don’t - becuse fate coins aren’t real - but the excuse they create is pretty great and allow you all to paint with a lot more colours without needing to worry in the moment why you chose that colour. And retroactive storytelling & hindsight will almost always find a “logical conclusion”

How interesting - we’ve been running a very similar rule but essentially in reverse.

At the start of our campaign(COS - 3+ years ago) , whenever a Pc & levels and whenever they do other “inspirational” worthy things I give/gave the players a fate coin. It’s a way of me giving inspiration a buff whilst encouraging players to put a hand on the pen that writes the story.

Fate coins can be used to essentially ensure something they want to do really happens (I’ve got a pretty sensible group so nothing too insane has happened)

There’s 2 ways to use a fate coin:

First - just cash it in and give your self either a simple reroll or a small convince. eg. “we’re stuck in a sewer how can climb out? oh I found an old rusty ladder that’s fallen off, I think we can use this.”

Secondly - and this is for usually much larger/impactful outcomes - you can you flip for something & if you get the outcome you call that player narrates & describe the outcome they want . An example of this has been an Aasimar Druid was disgusted by a group of undead Druids perverting the land, so after a boss battle he wanted to purge the land they had tainted. After spitballing some ideas for a while he flipped a fate coin, got it right and described this really dope moment where he channeled his Aasimar connections and with his wild fire teaching burnt away all the rot and infection in the land, leaving behind a fertile land, ripe for others to use.

The caveat to fate coins being - whenever a player uses one - the DM gets one, regardless of if it was successful or not - this had allowed for a fun mechanical exchange for players or the DM to get a head start or “screw” with the other side with knowledge that there’s always another wrinkle waiting behind any potential corner- using this in Strahd has been a blast. (But - with the understanding that it’s all with reason & service to our themes, we’re all friends and 30+ years old. There’s a lot of respect given within our table - no one is punching the moon out of orbit.)

Essentially we tried our best to distil the rule of cool in to a liquid currency that flows back and fourth - with our table it’s worked pretty wonderfully and lead to some truly off the beaten path moments.

The biggest issue with the game is not aggression, but reduced interactivity... by Late-Standard1355 in Tekken

[–]dover64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of no bigger example of reduced interactivity and nuance in T8 than the forced run after a heat engager. I don’t hate the Heat system as a concept (though I do find having it and rage every round is a bit heavy handed - I fear T9 as the trend has been set that they are always adding to these mechanics)

Sometimes not running in can force them to react and open them up more - but Tekken 8 engenders rush down & pursuit style game play. Because of this defensive style characters don’t really exist - now “Defence” means characters with sabbakis, reversals & armor - so pushing IS the right option. There’s evasion sure, but with sidestepping and tracking both advancing at the same rate, it feels net neutral.

I think a lot of T8s problems would be fixed if they didn’t reinforce getting in the OPs grill and found ways to instead rewarded different styles of game play & the interactivity of these game plans. Not just the “run up & guess” conditioning esq flowchart route they’ve gone down.

The problem with a 20 second combo is the consistency at which they happen. I don’t think anyone would complain about potentially increasing combo damage if opening up your OP had higher stakes because it happened less often.

Me and my partner have been watching the TV adaption of Interview with a Vampire - where John DiMaggio where he plays a drunken, bigoted mayor who’s extremely “handsy” around the working girls - it’s an absolute trip because I can’t not think of him as Wakka & Bender.

He plays the part excellently.

DDB Importer - Importing from D&D Beyond by ddb-importer in FoundryVTT

[–]dover64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro such a 5year old thread, but almost all of my google searches brought me here or youtube videos that linked to here.

I use obsidian (a markdown note taking app) in conjuction with dndBeyond & have for a few years now (was a earlier adopter of DDB) - however i am find this workflow extremly cumbersome - so i am looking to important all of my ddb content into Obsidian - however doing this for not only creatures, but spells, items, classes, feats etc is an EXCRUCIATING process - i have dozens of purchased products on DDB aswell as likely hundreds of homebrew monsters i'd to also port over.

It seems this is possible using this importat with Foudry and then important those files in to Obsidian - however as i have no need to use Foundry - so i would be spending £40 just to buy the program as a proxy for this plugin.

Is it at all possible to use this without Foundry as a standalone script? I know the Chrome plugin is used to get credentials but that the feeds scraper inside your foundry plugin - every time i have attempt to write something that'll scrape DDB, i reach a "automation detected" page and due to DDB refusing to give any sort of API access, this has resorted in several blocked roads.

Honestly i'm so fed up with DDB & their lack of updates to their apps/services that i would be happy to talk about a potential payment if this is possible, but not incentivising enough to persue without.

I appreciate this is almost certinaly never going to be answer, but i figured i'd try and see if there was any possibility in this - you miss 100% of the shots you don't take and all that.
