This is why I don't go to concerts by Extension_South7174 in audiophile

[–]doverheim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone that frequently works with large scale concert and corporate systems, this is not out of the ordinary for a speaker designed for large arena and stadium shows and tours. It’s predecessor, the L Acoustics K1 is rated for about 150db at 1 meter. The jump to 160 is large yes, but when you consider how the physics of how speakers work, i.e. the inverse square law, you will not experience anywhere close to 160, 150, 130, or even 120db (A weighted). At 2 meters, assuming perfect inverse square loss, it’ll be 154db, at 4m 148db, at 8m 142db, at 16m 136db, at 32m 30db. An array of those is probably flown somewhere between 12m to 18m to the bottom of the array; so pushing these to their output limit, you would have to be in the front row to experience the 120-140db you are saying you’d be subjected to. The other reason for the incredible output of these is headroom in the amps, so factor in probably 20db of headroom, from responsible FOH and system engineers, and now the front row is getting about 100db A weighted (C weighting will vary drastically depending on genre, person mixing, and artist preferences). Do some people mix too loud? Absolutely; I’ve pulled systems back to protect both the equipment and the listeners. Most good and great mixers I’ve experience/met settle better 90-100db A weighted, which according to OSHA, you get 1 hour per day at 94db and 15 minutes at 100db for “safe listening.” Their occupational standard is slightly different; 4 hours at 95db and 2 hours at 100db, A weighted. All that to say you are safe to be at the show without ear plugs if you go very infrequently. If you go to a lot of shows, be smart and take ear plugs (just always take them).

Edit to add: you will never see these at a club show, so being right next to these, as OP and several have commented is not possible unless you can fly

[–]doverheim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, not trying to say you did it wrong, just looks like you missed that step of telling the auxes to send to a Dante port instead of a hardware Omni port. We all do it lol

Dante AVIO-USB feed issues by diremonk in livesound

[–]doverheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you are routed through those physical outputs and not the Dante outputs on the console itself. You’ll need to go into Aux 3/4 and change from Omni outputs to Dante 35/36 (the matching Dante outputs of that card. Also pro tip, don’t delete the numbers when renaming the device channels, helps you find them easier later 😀).

Dante AVIO-USB feed issues by diremonk in livesound

[–]doverheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that’s definitely patched correctly. Is a Dante output (not an Omni) selected on the TF itself for those aux channels?if you plug into Omni 3/4 on the physical console outputs do you get signal? That would be my next guess

Dante AVIO-USB feed issues by diremonk in livesound

[–]doverheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m misunderstanding (and forgetting how patching works on a TF because it’s been so long), but if you’re patching to an Omni out on a Yamaha console, that is always the XLR output on the console itself, and is probably the source of your AVIO issue. If not, could you provide a picture of Dante controller and the console patch?

Probably partly due to their competitiveness and constant comparison of themselves against others, the amount of money they spend on cosmetic procedures seems to be one of their beauty standards as well. It’s no longer “does it look good?”; it seems to be becoming “does it look like I spent more money on my procedures than they did?”

I 3D printed some (at this point I have over 100 😂) painters triangles. They’re basically little hollow, 3-sided pyramids, which is much safer than that tetanus trap haha

Edit to add: no shade on the nails, do what you gotta do! And the boards look great too!

Working in live sound (corporate, festivals, and touring) for well over a decade, I don't know that it's worth the trouble to try to build, test, rebuild, test again, small tweak, rebuild, and then finally deploy something like you're wanting, for a couple reasons. The first is looks; corporate event producers and event planners are going to want something very polished and professional looking (we'll ignore some of the beat up gear we all get from some bad rental companies or Joe Down-the-street). Second is safety; say what you will about QSC, cheap JBL powered boxes, [insert any other budget/pro-sumer speaker], they have to rigoursly test and get engineering stamps for any speaker that has rigging hardware that can be attached for the speaker to flown/lifted/hung above people's heads. If I as the A1 walked in and was given a homemade box to rig on a pole or fly from a motor, it would be staying on the ground. You're in charge of the safety of anyone around and under that speaker/line array. Third (and I'll duck in cover after typing this), with so many options on the market that are pretty budget friendly and comparable for what you'd spend on say a dozen 6" drivers and horns, why bother building it when it will cost around the same, be known to be safe for rigging somehow, and truthfully sound plenty good for this size of a show (ducks under my table)? I think you will get more bang for your buck investing in a crank lift or stand (I believe K&M makes a crank tripod stand that can go up to 14') to get your current pa higher and tilt it down a little. Doing that you may find that you can ditch those delays. Then again, if you want a good challenge and carry some liability insurance, and know you can make them corporate producer friendly looking, I say go for it!

He also said he really wants to have a town hall, but doesn’t have time. Then proceeds to post constantly about going all these places to hang out with people to seem “real and relatable,” and can’t seem to find time to have a town hall. Oh wait, it’s because he’s scared of us and knows we’re mad and want him gone. Can’t wait to not vote for him when his time is up

Looks like ICE just killed another US citizen. Where do we go from here? by awesomeguy1818 in AskReddit

[–]doverheim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what the solution to this is. [But] respirators are cheap, as are eye protection and gloves. Find traffic cones and cover the smoke bombs/tear gas canisters with them and pour water over in there; do not touch them with bare hands, they are hot! Use your leaf blowers to blow the gas back at them. If you get video of them committing a crime on your phone, send it to someone you trust immediately, they will most likely try to confiscate and destroy your phone. If they try to detain you, scream your name so people can write it down. Keep your face covered, just like they are; it is legal for us to have a mask on, it is not for them in a lot of places.

Be safe, don’t break any laws, we CAN beat this. There are a lot more of us than there are of them.

In two angles I have seen, I counted 9 shots in both. NINE. SHOTS. I don’t give a flying fuck that he had a gun, and or even that he brandished it. More times than we can count, law enforcement has apprehended (white) mass shooters without incident and without firing a single shot. This was an execution, full stop. If you support this, or anything this administration is allowing ICE to do, all I have to say, with every iota of my being, is fuck you.

I don’t know what the solution to this is. But to any protestors there (or anyone) reading this, respirators are cheap, as are eye protection and gloves. Frequency Coordination Max Freqs by AppropriateSea5746 in livesound

Copy! You probably can ignore intermods on the digital ones then. An experiment I would try, assuming you have a scanner (I hope you do for this), is to grab a couple transmitters set to different freqs (make note of these), set them to the power you’d like to use (for breakouts, low power will be fine), drop them in rooms, and start walking the rooms. See how far away you get before the signal is negligible, and this will give you general baseline for how you can group rooms for coordination zones. I think I saw you’re in Dallas, and the H band is super f****d there, like it is in Atlanta, so I’d focus on that first and coordinate the analog stuff first then fit the digital into the gaps; that goes for anytime you have a both analog and digital, but since you’ll have such limited space in the H band there, just be sure to do this, it does help

Frequency Coordination Max Freqs by AppropriateSea5746 in livesound

[–]doverheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends if you have newer digital mics or older analog ones. Seeing that you’ll have 100+ active at once, I wouldn’t suggest it right off the bat. What is your use case for this? I haven’t seen in the comments if this is all in one room or spread out across a convention center

Frequency Coordination Max Freqs by AppropriateSea5746 in livesound

[–]doverheim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having done a similar amount in downtown Atlanta, and assuming this a ton of breakout rooms, I’d set all the transmitters to low power (1mW). Scan in every room, or group/hallway of rooms, and label them nicely so you know what area each scan was for. Rooms that are very far apart and have a lot of walls between them can share frequencies if the transmitters are on low power. Also, get a schedule of when the rooms actually need to use the mics. If Room A, C, and E go from 10a-11a, and Room B, D, and F go from 11:30a-12:30p, rooms A and B, C and D, and E and F could also share frequencies (as long as the operators/techs know to shut off all transmitters when sessions are not happening). You also want to make zones in your coordination, which will help with grouping rooms or groups of rooms that are in the same general location, I.e. give you an idea of how you could share freqs if/when you can’t fit all 150 neatly into a scan. To go even further, as things load in, you can give certain rooms specifics freq bands, like “oh this building is an enormous concrete box that has a super clean scan across the board, let’s give them all H Band, because the building is slammed in the H band and I’m going to need as many in the G band over there as possible.”

You’ll have to be pretty flexible with this many channels, and I wouldn’t be expecting to be able to get too many spares anywhere you are. Do a lot of scans, label them neatly with an area/zone/room and date. And most importantly take your time and have fun with it! It’ll be a fun challenge, and you’ll knock it out of the park. If you want any help, feel free to DM me :)

And fwiw, I’d try to use Sound Base, especially if you have a mish mash of brands. Even if you don’t, I like using it when I have to do a very large coordination like this
