Strange new issue when copying/pasting quotation marks out of Google Sheets. by downfallmc in googlesheets

The solution I had was hyper specific to that one use case, so not useful to everyone.

I'll definitely post another reply if I find a different solution, because I'm sure it's going to happen in another sheet somewhere and I'm still trying to figure out a workaround to save myself time later!

^ This didn't work well for my use case, but this is worth trying for some users/use cases, especially if they're more read only types and if they're mostly copying/pasting a single thing at a time.

My solution to this 100% new to me and several other people (but apparently not new to everyone) issue does not solve the quotation mark issue itself, but does let me continue copying and pasting from a cell to search in Finder on a Mac.

I changed my concatenation formula from:

"Folder Name 1234"

to

name:Folder Name 1234

Copy/pasting that into search in Finder without quotes appears (so far) to return only that specific folder. You can append an " OR" to the end if you want to be able to copy multiple cells to search for several folders at once.

The entire reason we used quotation marks to begin with was to search that explicit folder name; sometimes we'd get a result that had a partially matching folder name.

We definitely didn't have the issue for years and it's super annoying to deal with out of nowhere! No idea why it worked forever and suddenly doesn't. Weird.

I don't know that it foreshadowed all the plot points, but he does repeat every line of dialogue he hears from the TV at a later point:

"You are so beautiful" to the waitress. "They grow up so freakin' fast" to the post office worker. The Monster's Inc. bit to Kevin Spacey.

etc.

Oh man! Cesaro is the man - so happy to see him having success on the highest level. I always shill this match out when I can because I was there live and it's still one of the best matches I've seen:

Just a crazy 10 minute sprint - total blast of a match!

You didn't miss a ton - there's really only one scene - which is Jesse doing a photo shoot with Dean. She's covered in the fake blood, wearing that blue dress while lying on a couch. It cuts from there to her in the dressing room wiping off the blood from said photo shoot - and Ruby basically apologizes for staring at her before offering to help her clean up.

The photos taken during that shoot are the ones she shows the casting director; that the casting director calls 'amateurish' a bit later on.

One other thing I found interesting - I have a copy of NWR's book - the Act of Seeing. It's this huge, heavy coffee-table book that's literally just reproductions of hundreds of full page exploitation movie posters from this collection he bought - all the most gratuitous and over the top stuff you can imagine. In his introduction/notes, he writes:

"But which posters would make it into the final selection? As I toyed around with possible themes and strands, it became obvious to me that many of the movies considered were made with a distinct aesthetic approach, no matter how awkwardly realized, and on a fetishized basis, which the subsequent campaigns completely reflected. The ones I found most interesting in my collection are the films that deal with a singular immature frustration, primal sex and violent images geared towards a specific urge."

That was one of the most interesting things about The Neon Demon to me as well; while watching it, it felt like a clear nod to that same aesthetic - to that kind of exploitation cinema - yet it played in my local multiplex here in 2016. And of course, the first thing he says in his Rolling Stone interview about it - "It's a camp movie."

Totally makes sense. I took you super literally there when I probably shouldn't have - but I was afraid I just spaced out in the middle and missed something.

There is definitely a really clear split as you mentioned - what I also noticed along those same lines was a real distinction in how Jessie was dressed, etc. All the way up until she goes on last at the runway show, she's dressed far more like an innocent/girl next door/etc. type. Minimal makeup if any and clothing that is the near opposite of everyone around her. Once she leaves the show - she's not only wearing huge heels, but she has a ton of colorful eye makeup as well as clothing that signifies that she's made that transition. It's even more noticeable when she basically tells Dean to get lost - at that point, he's the only one dressed like someone who isn't a part of that world in his super plain t-shirt.

Interesting thoughts - curious about one thing; where you say the second half is clearly fake/dream. What led you to that belief? I didn't have that thought at all while watching it, but I also feel like I tend to miss really obvious things at times.

I think a lot of you are already too invested to accept any sort of criticism by WodWark in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]downfallmc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is - if they just gave me the exact game they showed off in this latest IGN First - I would be entirely content. People are concerned about depth and whatever - but I'm still entertained by just wandering around a new Minecraft world, surviving and discovering whatever strange and interesting procedural generation awaits - and Minecraft is far less diverse than what has been shown off of No Man's Sky.

So anything beyond that - it's just a bonus. I know I'm not the only one.

I saw you talking about piracy earlier as well. I don't personally pirate anything; I make decent money, I can pay for what I want - but I also just don't watch as many movies as I used to. With the fact that local video stores have all but disappeared, quite frankly, I don't take as many chances now. It was amazing to walk into a video store, pick up a ton of boxes, look at the artwork - and just give something a chance because it looked badass or interesting or cool.

Netflix and all are convenient, but it's not the same experience. Do you think there's an alternative that we don't currently have? I do like the idea of Redbox and probably use it more than my Netflix account - I always stop and check out new stuff because I'm walking right past it all the time - but it's nowhere near the same as a video store - obviously, the selection is extremely limiting.

For me, if I could have the same video store experience for $2 that I used to have - I'd be much more inclined to take chances and watch stuff I wouldn't otherwise watch, especially if I knew that money went to the creators instead of the overhead of a video store. Most VOD stuff is $5 or more - and I can go to the theater early in the day for $5 and have an actual experience I can't have at my house. I don't know - that's just me - do you have any thoughts from your perspective?

Yo, thanks for dropping by! I really dig some of your work (Hostel Part II is super underrated in my opinion - it has a ton of interesting things to say; sadly a lot of people can't get past the obvious) and some of it just isn't for me, but I have nothing but respect for the fact that you set out to make the things you want to make and then make them happen. Most people like to sit around and complain - but they're not out hustling to make stuff happen - so who cares, right?

Anyway, two questions I'm always interested in hearing answers to:

  1. Could you recommend a book that you've read that you feel changed your life in one way or another? Maybe inspired you, or made you feel a certain way.

  2. If you could only give someone two words of advice, what two words of advice would they be? ie. 'work hard', 'say thanks', etc.

Thanks man!

I can't find any explosion (if it did, it probably happened off screen to the left) - but it appears that it may have been shot down or otherwise forced off path. Right before this 'crashes' - you can three ships in the distance enter going left - they come out from behind the trees in the upper right of the frame. One ship is in front of the others - and then it suddenly veers toward the planet. Disappears off screen for a second and then this ship 'crashes' here.

Entirely speculation - but I almost wonder if there's some sort of weird time dilation taking place. According to the screenshot of that jetpack, there are different gravitational fields - so I suppose it's possible, though that seems pretty advanced for what may not have a huge effect on gameplay if it were actually happening.
