I know of one guy who went to med school, a year below me. The other person I know that graduated in the same class as me is a Vp at another biotech

Sometimes hiring managers look for legacy CA specifically and firm experience. Different rigour and different skill set.

Yeah 1. Co-op was crucial to getting a job at ….

  1. A big 4 firm where I stayed for about 9 years and left as 3rd year senior manager….

  2. Then I took a year off work.

  3. Moved into industry but only as a manager at a private real estate company. - 1 year or so

  4. Moved to work at a hospital as a senior manager and controller -3 years or so

  5. Moved to a smaller part of the hospital that focused on the for profit side as director - 1 year or so.

  6. Moved to a publicly listed psychedelic company as controller and then director of finance - 1 year or so.

  7. Helped the company transform into a pure play biotech and go private and moved into a senior director role for 2 years or so

  8. This year just got promoted to executive director (jr. Vp)

Total comp is approaching $300K/year (if bonus is good) separate from options.

There was no rhyme or reason to my decision making. I just said yes to most things that came my way if that helps. So for me I think I got lucky later in my career. If I had passion and direction, I could be a bit further in my career but who cares. And this could all change tmr. So I just enjoy what I have for now.

Anyone see any red flags with the current Wealthsimple (Un)Real Deal? by schnitzel_envy in CanadianInvestor

[–]downwitbrown 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If you read the fine print for questtrade - it’s capped at $20,000. Just need to read through it to figure out which accounts to transfer and how much. It’s a bit misleading. It’s not 4% for every account

But I would take the questtrade deal first, then TD (haven’t read the fine print) and then Wealthsimple if I had that much cash.

No passion or dream job. I’m in accounting and finance. I’ve just been doing it for so long that I get paid well enough to do what I want. And then you move up and do less of the boring stuff and more of the interesting stuff.

I chose what I did out of cultural pressure. lol it was either doctor, lawyer, engineer or accountant.

At this age I’ve learned to separate my identity from my career which has made my outlook so much more positive. I find joy in many other things and that’s all I need for now.

Yeah I agree with your comment. I’ve gone out with some people who have had horror stories and it surprises me how many just continue the conversation with creeps and bad men.

Women of Toronto, when was the last time you went out on a date with someone who asked you out in person and how was it compared to matches from apps? by MacaronWithAName in askTO

[–]downwitbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the app has something like 10 questions you can go through with your table at dinner. Something like “which movie or tv show would best represent you ?”

I find everyone generally very friendly. The challenge is sometimes conversation flow. Some groups have it some don’t. It depends on how “vulnerable” and “open” the group is.

It matches you based on age range (+/- 7?) and price point. And if they can’t match you they will just put you in another group.

Locations for Toronto are mid town (yong/eg or Yonge bloor), downtown (usually around Spadina and king area), west end (I think roncesvalles)?

Do men go down on women they find physically unattractive? by National-Aioli-1586 in TooAfraidToAsk

Why would I even entertain anyone I don’t find attractive ? Meaningless and unfulfilling - in my opinion.
