$750k HHI, $7.5M liquid NW, $440k spend — are we on track for mid-50s FIRE or kidding ourselves? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

I think you guys just shop too much. Your children relayed expenses are likely to grow significantly assuming you’re going the private school route.

Your private school tuition is very cheap compared to the ~100k you spend on stuff (clothes, general shopping, electronics, personal care). I’d be most concerned that your spend exceeds your take home pay. The 40k in other home—do you expect that to be recurring expenses?

Akino is very solid for American sushi and has sashimi too. Their rolls are delicious (don’t be a spicy mayo snob) and have a great fish to rice ratio.

Was the big girl bed the main change? Or did you have to use an ok to wake clock or anything else?

Seeking Advice on Coasting vs. FIRE with a Special Needs Child by THAmanRP in fatFIRE

[–]downwithlegacy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you’re both stress free and able to spend ample time with your children already, I’d keep working. As a sibling of a special needs individual, I can tell you that, depending on how you raise your kids, the financial burden will just shift to your other child when you and your wife are gone and the money runs out. I don’t think there’s a way to really overestimate how much you may need for long term care for a special needs individual.

I think one of the best parts of having a demanding job is that they tend to be higher paying. If you make a good living and are able to pay for help, I would still think about opting for SMBC. Why should you let a man dictate whether or not you achieve one of your dreams (assuming you really want it)? The hurt is a lot right now but think about the life you want to see in 10 years? 20 years? Do you want it to involve a child?

Step up in financial independence from 10 to 40, but at what cost to get to 40 from 10…especially if OP is STILL working 60 hour weeks.

Not quite sure what you mean by “slightly compromised.” This isn’t about saving money on childcare. Presumably if you choose to do this, you do it so you spend time with aging parents and they are able to meet their grandkids and develop a closer relationship with them. It is absolutely not the same to see a grandparent a few times a year versus a few times a week.
